“For what?” Toby replied, putting his arm around Kate.

  “Tea at the Ritz.”

  “The Ritz?” he echoed.

“That’s what I thought.” Kate laughed.

“A celebratory afternoon tea,” Charlie explained. “We have so many things to celebrate today. Including a forthcoming wedding,” he announced and Clive and Toby stared at him.

“Charlie and I are getting married,” Kate squealed, showed them her engagement ring, and their jaws dropped.

“About bloody time,” they both shouted at once and there were hugs and kisses all round again. “Congratulations.”

“Do you have leave?” Charlie asked.

“We certainly do,” Clive replied. “Forty-eight hours.”

“Great. Tea at the Ritz. Then…”

  “Then?” Kate prompted eagerly.

  “Then, we all go home.”

Kate smiled. What a lovely word. Home.
