Twisted Steel: An MC Anthology: Second Edition Page 28

by Elizabeth Knox

I snag the keys and step out of my parents’ room, and head for the back door. I head for the backside of the fencing, where the bushes grow through fencing and pull the broken fencing away. I discovered this a long time ago and forgot to ever tell my dad about it. It’s worked to my advantage twice now so far. On the outside of the fence, I straighten and stare at the clubhouse for one last time. I’ll never come back here.

Blow’s made sure of it. I don’t know what he was trying to accomplish with his hurtful words, but he damn sure broke my heart into a million pieces. There’s no putting it back. It’s time for me to get out of here, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do.

Turning away from the clubhouse, I dart off in the direction of my parents’ house. It doesn’t take me too long to get there. I punch in the code to enter the side door of the garage and step inside. I pull the tarp off the Mustang and open the door to the garage. Once the door’s up, I climb in behind the wheel, feeling horrible about touching something that means so much to my dad and brother. They worked so hard on this together, and here I am stealing it.

Starting the engine, she starts up with a purr. Pulling out of the garage, I don’t bother putting the door back down. I know someone at the clubhouse would have been notified of the alarm being disabled. I turn the car out of the driveway in the direction of the cabin and hit the gas.

Making it home in record time, I cut the engine of the Mustang, open the door, and get out, making sure to lock the doors as I shut the door.

Rushing into the cabin, I pack my bags quickly. By now, I’m sure someone has noticed, not only my dad’s car gone, but I’m also missing from in the depths of the clubhouse.

Packing a few outfits, I change out of Blow’s t-shirt I’d put on after showering a bit ago. I throw it into my bag, unable to leave it behind. Putting the bag on my shoulder, I pack up everything I need for writing and take it out to my car. Once I finish this task, I pull out the burner phone I have that I keep as a precautionary thing. I pull up my best friend Chelsea’s number. She and I don’t get to talk much because we have our own lives, but she’s the only one I know I can trust at this moment. Doesn’t matter if she’s associated with another charter of the Devil’s Riot due to her brother being a part of the Colorado club. I know she’ll let me come stay with her at her house.

Shooting her a text message, I tell her I’m coming out and to not say anything. That when I get there, I’ll explain.

Stepping inside the cabin one last time, I make sure I grab everything I need. I place the keys to the Mustang on the coffee table and walk out of the cabin, making sure to lock the doors behind me.

I slide in behind the wheel of my car and put the key in the ignition. Backing out of my spot, I do as I’d done leaving my parents’ house, this time feeling the pain setting in completely in a way it hadn’t done yet.

My mind and heart finally coming to grasps together that Blow officially accomplished one thing I didn’t think could happen in breaking me. He destroyed my soul in the process.

  Five Weeks Later

“Did she make it there okay?” I ask, pinching the bridge of my nose as I wait for Grinder, the Prez of the Colorado charter, to answer me.

“Yeah, she made it to Chelsea’s, but gotta say, brother, what the fuck?” Grinder mutters.

I ignore his question. “Thanks, brother, let Sniper know how she’s doing from here on out. I just wanted to make sure she’s good,” I mutter.

It’s been five weeks since she left, and I’ve been nothing but a moody bastard. I know it and so do my brothers. Twice in one day, she’d been able to leave the clubhouse without being spotted. Then Keys got the notification of someone disarming the garage at Sniper’s.

Keys called me, and I’d headed straight for the cabin to catch her ass. Instead, we’d been too late in getting there. Now she’s in Colorado. It didn’t take long for Nerd to tail his sister. He’d informed us on where she was headed, and I’d called Grinder. Told him to keep his eye out.

“Yeah, Blow, but you should know whatever happened with Storm left her as nothing but a shell of who she was. Chelsea’s pissed and yelling at Driver and me.” Of course, Grinder’s cousin would have a fit, Driver’s her brother and pretty much raised her along side Grinder. She’s also a pain in the ass and Storm’s best friend. It’s always been a good thing those two were in separate states because of the shit they’d pull when together. Shit, they’d put superglue in a bottle of K-Y jelly, and two of the Colorado prospects ended up in trouble with one of the clubwhores.

“She’ll be fine,” I grumble, moving my hand from the bridge of my nose to the bottle sitting on my desk.

“Yeah, I’m sure she will be. But wait until Sniper finds out what I overheard her and Chelsea talkin’ about this mornin’. I’d hate to be the fucker who knocked his daughter up and then tell her that she was nothing more than a notch on his belt.” My hand freezes midair at his words.

“What the fuck did you just say?” I demand, clenching my teeth.

“You heard me, brother. She hasn’t told Chelsea who the bastard is and don’t think she hasn’t demanded to know. But I have my own conclusions as to who it is, and I’m tellin’ you now, brother, make it right ‘cause whatever you did fuckin’ broke her,” Grinder grinds out.

  Fuck.

  Storm’s pregnant.

Hanging up with Grinder, I set both phone and bottle down on the desk.

Letting out a deep breath, I let Grinder’s words set in ‘cause whatever you did fuckin’ broke her.’

I never meant to break her but now knowing she’s pregnant with my kid means I’ve got to make it right. But will she let me? One way or another, time’s of the essence, and I need to find a way to win her over once again.

Breaking Storm means I need to now mend her back together and not just for our kid’s sake but for my own.

  Prologue

  Dela

“Oh fuck!” I push through the trees and slide on my ass down the side of the steep terrain. One misstep and my ass is going off the side of the fucking mountain. I have no choice, I have to get out. They’re never going to let me go.

My breath is coming in fast and I have to stop myself from hyperventilating. I lean against one of the trees, feeling the rough bark cutting into my naked skin. Thank god they thought it was time for me to wash or I would have never had the opportunity to get out. I feel bad for hitting Mother Benegal but she was the only thing standing between me and freedom. Well, her and the rest of the muses at the camp.

Five other girls went out to the river to wash. I tried to get them to come with me after I hit Mother Benegal with the stick but they just stood there looking at me like I was crazy. They would never leave Emerson. They love him. How can they? How do they not se
e he is a psychotic man who is forcing them to believe in this higher calling?

  It’s a fucking cult. Not a family.

“Shit!” I push off the tree and continue to make my way down the hill. I have no idea which way is out but I’m praying that if I stay on this path then I will find the main road at some point. I mean I have to find it sooner or later, right?

“Oh god, what’s that? No way.” I jump slightly at the sight. Excitement and hope blossoms inside of me.

I see a small cabin not faraway. I have to get there. There will be someone there who will help me.

“Oh, please.” I blink away the tears in my eyes and keep the small dot of a cabin in my line of sight. I pick up the pace, barely dodging the low hanging branches and the brush that is all around me. I don’t care that my arms are being sliced and gouged at almost every second. I had to get there.

It’s never the end, even when you see the light.

My ankle rolls slightly to the left but it’s more of a mistake that I couldn’t afford to make. I fall to my knees and try to put my hands out to break my fall. It did nothing but flip me head over heels down the hill. “Ahh!” I scream out as the spin of the world becomes faster and faster. I use all of my body parts to stop my fall but all that ends up happening is my skin being scraped away from my body. My head hits trees and rocks and I have to fight to keep conscious. I don’t want to die like this. Tumbling off the side of a mountain trying to run away from a cultist community.

  *CRACK*

My side hits a tree and I feel something jagged pierce my side.

“Fuck!” I try to hunch over but can’t.

I shoot out my arm and use my nails to grab hold of the dirt as I slide down it.

I lie there for a second and let the world stop moving. My insides feel like they have been in a blender. Maybe I will die here. I’d take this over bearing children for Emerson. I’d do anything besides that.

“Come on.” The tears stream down my eyes unchecked as I stay on my belly and try to crawl the rest of the way to the cabin. The pain is excruciating.

My arm feels as if it might just come loose from my body. There is a small branch sticking out of the side of my stomach, the branch going straight through my love handle.

I pull harder, not wanting to give up quite yet when the most ominous sound I think I will ever hear in my life starts behind me.

A high intoned whistle of “Patience” by Guns N’ Roses echoes in the wind.

  He’s here. He’s close.

I pull harder. “Come on!” I grit through my teeth, not even caring anymore that it feels like my body is coming apart underneath me. I hear footsteps crunching the uneven ground behind me. One of his goons must be right behind me. I chance a glance and he along with four of his acolytes clad in the dark green robes are rushing down the side of the cliff to get me.

I push myself up, using all the strength I have left in my arms and try to run. I fall back down the instant I try. I must have broken my ankle, it won’t hold my weight.

I drop back down to the floor and start to crawl as fast as I can on all fours.

‘Help! Please you have to help me! Help!” I scream at the top of my lungs, my window is closing. The only shot I probably would ever get to make it out. “Please!” My voice is shrill and my face is covered in snot and dirt. “Please, help me!”

A hand reaches out and grabs my foot.

“No!” I kick out and try to get a grip on something to attack whoever is holding me. “Let me go! Help!” I scream again. Someone has to be around here.

Please, god, don’t let him take me again. I won’t make it.

The man lays on top of me trying to subdue me.

“Get off of her! Are you crazy? She’s hurt. Be gentle!” Emerson yells out from above and hurries down to where I am.

He gets off of me and Emerson smacks him hard across the face.

“Don’t you ever hurt her again.” He pushes his way through his guards and bends down to where I am.

“Oh, my sweet girl.” He rubs his hands down the side of my face and I do my best to not cringe away.

“Please, let me go I promise that I won’t say anything to anyone, just let me go, please,” I beg, trying to keep my voice even.

“Delaney, baby, don’t talk nonsense. You know that I can’t do that. I love you too much. I love all of you too much. If I let you go how will I survive? Is that what you want for me? You want me to die of heartbreak? You’re everything to me.” He leans down and kisses my forehead. This time I can’t even fake it. I snatch my head away.

“Don’t be fucking disrespectful, I could have left you out here to freeze to death. You owe me everything. You owe me your fucking life and I intend to keep it.” He stands up and signals to his guards to come pick me up. They fight with me but they make sure that they don’t harm me again. The last thing they would ever do is make their fearless leader mad.

Emerson may seem the picture of pure and innocent but he is a monster on the inside. Now I have to go back to whatever crazy punishments that he can think up.

I settle myself as they drag me behind them. I have to steel myself, there is no way that I’m going to let this be my last time out of that crazy place. I will get out again.

  Wyatt

“Wyatt, honey, don’t you want to have a little fun tonight?”

I look at Suzy trying my best to keep the absolutely disgusted look off my face. The girl is barely old enough to drink but every time I pass by the bar, she is there rip-roaring drunk. So drunk that I have no choice but to make sure that she finds her way home.

“No, sweetheart. You’re not yourself right now. I’m sure by the time you wake up in the morning you’ll be happy that we decided to wait on it.” I shoot her a wink and move further over into my side of the car. If I could stick my head out the window to get her fucking stench out of my nostrils I would. She’s sloppy drunk, and not at all what I would ever look for in a woman.

“You always say no to me. You’re starting to hurt my feelings.”

I laugh it off but I don’t respond. There is nothing that I can say that will change her mind right now. Especially since I wouldn’t be saying yes. Ever.

I drop her off at her house and wait until she makes her way in. Once the door closes behind her, I speed off.

My phone rings and I look down to see it’s Cody.

I press the hands-free icon on my dash. “Yeah.”

“Where the fuck are you? We got all this tail here and you’re driving around playing cabbie.” His words slur slightly and I know that he’s already sloshed.

  “Cody, you being careful?”

“You want to hop off my dick.” He mocks me. I press the off button and let out a sigh. I swear on my life if Cody wasn’t my brother, I would punch him in the face. He’s always been a disrespectful little prick. My phone rings again and I press the hands-free again. This time it’s Steven. My other little brother. Number four out of six. Apparently, Daddy wasn’t shooting any chicks.

“What’s up, Spark?” We call him Spark because before we all went into the bureau he had a little issue with fire, as in he likes to light everything up. He still is fascinated with it. The one productive thing that has come out of this strange obsession was when he was old enough, he became a volunteer firefighter. He really enjoys it. That is all I can ask for.

A loud scream echoes through the background. I pull the car over in a sudden stop.

“What the fuck is that? What is going on over there?” I ask, my panic starting to inch its way up my throat.

“Huh? What? Nothing. It’s all good. Cody playing around with Becca.”

I roll my eyes, Becca was there. That girl was a bikeslut if I ever saw one. She never paid Cody one piece of mind but the second we got the MC back together and started riding she was all over his cock. All the time. I tried to tell her on several occasions that he was never going to take her seriously but she was just fine with just playin
g around. It didn’t even bother her when he fucked around with other women in her face. She seemed to act like she was immune to it. I pull back onto the road. “What’s going on?” I ask now that I know nothing insane is happening.

“You coming over? We’re having a good time. Barbecuing and all that jazz. You need to relax a bit,” Spark says.

“Big brother still being a stick in the mud?” I hear Cody in the background.

“Come on, you’ve been in a pissy mood since we left Wire and them. Things will work out. I’m sure of it.” Spark sounds sincere. Everyone here knows how hard I’m trying to honor our father and our uncle.

“I know,” I huff out a breath and look around my town. It was well past midnight and nothing was happening. I liked to patrol the streets but there was very little that ever happened here. “Fine, I’m on my way.”

“Wooo!” Spark celebrated and a round of yeah’s filter through the phone. “Awesome, bro. I’ll see you soon. Drive safe.” Spark hangs up the phone and I make my way to my home away from home. The Boys of Djinn clubhouse.
