She gives me that smile that makes me all giddy inside. She calls down and tells Simi that she doesn’t need him for the morning. I kiss her neck as she’s talking and then whisper, “You won’t need him all day, my love.”

  “Jax, no….”

  “One day. Please?”

She tells Simi to take the day off with pay. Once she’s done, we walk out the door like a happy couple. As Randal opens the door for us, he smiles at me, and I narrow my eyes to signal him not to say anything sarcastic.

  ***

After Silvia is safe in her building, I speak with Randal of a feeling I had when leaving her place.

“Randal, did anything suspicious happen, can you remember, outside Silvia’s home?”

“No, sir. Is there something I should know?”

“No… well, I could be wrong, but it felt like we were being watched.”

I drink my coffee and wait to get to my office. Once I’m inside and walking to my office, Nora is right on my heels. She hands me some mail and tells me my messages have been emailed to me.

I sit and think of anyone who would be following Silvia, or more likely me, but I have happy clients. I always pull through for them, they send all sorts of thank-you gifts. Once, a small yacht! I did deserve that; I was able to get that client’s son released from an overseas prison. Anyway, my clients are happy, and I can’t imagine anyone wanting to hurt Silvy. She works to raise money for charities, nothing dangerous at all.

I push that aside and get started on my work. I have some singers who’ve gotten themselves into trouble and I need to make it better. They don’t call me the fixer for nothing.

After a few hours of work, I remember Blair is supposed to give me the place and time for our drinks and dancing this weekend.

Texting Blair is the best right now.

Sweetheart are we still on for a drink and dancing?

She takes a few minutes to respond.

Yes, I was about to text you. I thought we could go to a new place that’s supposed to be hot for the thirty plus club, it’s called STEAMERS! Is Saturday evening good for you?

I read her text, happy that we can be friends.

Steamers never heard of it, but it will do does it have dancing?

Yes, Jax it has dancing trust me.

Ok, can’t wait to see you this weekend.

Thank you, Jax, I thought you forgot about me.

What’s this? She thinks I would forget about her? Blair is truly a friend, even though we tried to be more than friends when we were teens, but that ended in disaster.

I’m not sure where that’s coming from, but I love you, lady. See you this weekend.

I don’t wait for her to respond, which she doesn’t. Blair has been my friend for a very long time and I don’t plan on it ending.

Silvy will find out when I pick her up from work.

After much thought, I decide to take on Mr. Fields’ case. I call some of my best people to find out everything on his son and the girl. If the young woman is a senator’s daughter, this must be done with careful hands. I don’t need to deal with a media frenzy.

The calls and clients come in one after another today. I don’t even have time to break for lunch, but I have Nora call for some salads for my lady and that crazy friend of hers. I’m glad Logan has been sleeping with her. He can keep her occupied while Silvia and I grow closer together.

We don’t need interruptions; besides, it’s going to be enough to deal with once she knows about Sam, which if it’s up to me she will never find out. My brain is still trying to figure out how to keep him from telling her that he dated my sister. Silvia is not dumb; she’s going to wonder and think until the truth comes out.

Most of the time I can fix anything in a short period of time, but when it’s my personal life I fuck it up royally every time.

Maybe I need to speak with my gram.

“Is that you, Jax? You know it’s been so long! I thought you must have kicked the bucket.”

“Grams, I’m sorry, it’s been really busy, but I know you’ve been well taken care of. The reports come in. Including you refusing to let them cook for you.”

“I’m not a damn child, Jax. If I want to cook for myself, I damn well will. Now, are you making me some grandbabies with that lady, or not?”

I look at the ceiling and smile.

“You will be the first to know if grandbabies are on the way.”

“If you’re taking care of her right, it shouldn’t take long. Your granddad sure did know how to take care of me. I would’ve had lots of kids, but I kept having bleeds.”

  “I didn’t know that. I’m sorry.”

“Don’t ‘sorry’ me. When are you coming to see me?”

  “I will be coming soon.…”

“Bring the girl. She may need my remedy to get a baby in her.”

  “What remedy is that?”

“She has to hold her legs up when you ejaculate inside of her.”

“Whoa! I’ll call you in a few days, tell you when I’m coming to see you. Love you.” I quickly hang up.

Hearing my grandmother talk about babies makes me want to be with Silvia even more. She would be a great mom, I know. With all the charities, and the love she pours into strangers, who knows what she could give to her own flesh and blood?

I want to have babies with Silvia, and if it’s up to me the sooner the better, but she said she was on the pill. I’m not going to force her off it, or even bring up what I’m thinking. Besides, we have plenty of time, and I’m enjoying being with her and learning more about her wants, needs, desires, and fears.

Speaking of spending time. I call Lori into my office.

  “Yes, Mr. Montgomery.”

“I need for you to make a dinner reservation for two tonight.”

  “Any place particular?”

“Somewhere nice, I trust your judgement.”

She walks out and my day continues, with clients and calls.

  CHAPTER 8

  SILVIA

Did he really say Steamers? I’ve never heard of this place. Also, Jaxson sounded determined to dance with me, but I don’t dance in public. I open my browser and search for Steamers, finding out it’s a thirty-plus club, which is good. They play all types of music and have three dance floors. It worries me that this place seems to be focused on dancing. I would rather watch people, and drink.

If Roslyn could go, then her dancing would mean no one would even think of me dancing. It’s the end of the day and I know she’s going to be in my office soon to say goodbye. I could tell her that Jaxson and I are going dancing this weekend and I want her to come along. It could go two ways; either she’s going to say yes so she can be an ass to Jax, or she’s going to say ‘hell, no.’

When I’m thinking of changing my mind, she bursts through the door with a huge grin. Franky walks in behind her.

“Silvy, are you getting ready to go? We can walk out together.”

“Yeah,” I murmur. “I’m sure Randal is outside now.”

Roslyn frowns, and looks at Franky and back at me.

“Silvy, did you say Randal, who’s Randal? And where’s Simi?”

“Randal is Jaxson’s driver; I gave Simi a day off, and Jaxson wanted to make sure I got home okay.”

She plops down in the chair in front of my desk.

“So he has lunch delivered for us, and now you’re riding in his car. What’s next – you moving in? Please tell me you’re not moving in, Silvia?”

“I’m not moving in! And don’t worry. Simi will be back on the job tomorrow. I’d like a favor from you and Franky, though.”

Roslyn tilts her head and waves for me to continue.

“Jaxson is taking me dancing this weekend, and I was hoping you and Franky could double with us.”

Before Roslyn can answer, Franky starts talking.

“I wanted to take Roslyn to dinner and do something special,” he says.

  I’m a little shocked he
s even talking this much. I glance at Roslyn, and she’s smiling so hard I think her face might get stuck like that.

“Which night are you planning to take Roslyn out?” I ask, still in hopes they can come dancing with Jaxson and me.

“To be honest, Ms. Demetri, after work on Friday I have an entire weekend planned.”

I look at Roslyn, who’s still smiling. I need my feisty friend to say she’s going dancing with me. I know it’s selfish to ask her to give up a weekend of romance, but I only need her for a few hours, then she can be happy with Franky.

I clear my throat and Roslyn finally stops smiling.

“Franky, I want to spend the weekend with you too, and we can, but I need to go dancing with my friend, besides I might need you to kick Jaxson’s ass if he does something to Silvy.” She walks over to him and wraps her arms around his waist. Franky doesn’t look happy at all.

“Thank you, Roslyn, and I will even find a great bed and breakfast for you both. My treat, okay Franky? Only for a few hours on Saturday.”

“No problem, Silvy,” says Roslyn. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Text me the information.” She pulls Franky out the door.

Once they are gone, I slip my heels back on, touch up my make-up and take the elevator to the main floor. When I step into the fresh air, I see Randal out front, standing waiting by the car.

  “Good evening, Ms. Demetri.”

  “Good evening, Randal.”

As he holds the door open, I climb into the back expecting to see Jaxson, but there’s no one inside – just a tray of lemon cake and wine. Even though my guess is that it’s for me, I don’t touch any of it.

After a little way, Randal pulls up in front of a florist’s shop, and I’m thinking he must need to get flowers for his lady. But then Jaxson opens the door with a dozen white lilies wrapped up.

“Hello, beautiful, did you think I stood you up?”

I bury my nose in the flowers. The scent is heady.

“No, I didn’t, because I saw the lemon cake and wine, so I figured you were near.”

He moves the cake and wine to the opposite seat.

“Yes, that’s for dessert, but I must take you to dinner.”

“Jaxson, you don’t have to. You’ve been working all day, and so have I.”

He takes my hand in his and kisses it, inhaling me, then leans forward and kisses me softly.

“You need to eat, I need to eat, and the reservations have already been made.”

Throwing my hands up in defeat, I lean back and enjoy the ride. Jaxson pulls my legs into his lap and starts massaging my feet.

  “How was work, baby?”

“It was good, I’m already over the amount of funds I raised last year.”

“That’s so good. I’m going to donate to the Lupus Foundation event as well, what about two hundred and fifty thousand?”

“Oh wow, that would be great, it’s truly a good cause.”

“Yeah, I know. I’ve never met anyone who’s had it, but I’ve heard about it.”

“Jax you’re more than likely to have encountered someone who does have lupus; it’s not always something you can see.”

“Fair point, you’re right. Did you like the salad I had sent in for you and Roslyn?”

“Yes, I did, but Roslyn says can you send her steak next time.”

Jax laughs and nods. “Okay, I’ll remember that for next time.”

We finally arrive at the restaurant. Randal pulls up and one of the doormen opens the door. Jaxson steps out and holds out his hand to me. We walk inside hand in hand.

Once seated, I’m glad we came. My stomach rumbles, and Jaxson looks at me and starts chuckling. The waiter comes to the table with a huge wine list.

“Wine for the lovely couple tonight?” he asks.

Jaxson disappears behind the enormous folder and I wonder if I’ll see him again tonight, but it doesn’t take him long to decide on a bottle of Grange Hermitage, all the way from Australia.

“You’ll like this, baby,” he says. It’s really something else.”

I’m not really a wine person, but when it comes it certainly does taste good, and I can tell from the ceremony with which the waiter fusses around that it’s something pretty special. We take a sip and look at the menu. It’s not long before our order is taken.

“Silvia, are you excited about this weekend?”

“No, Jax, I’m not. I’m great at people-watching and having a drink, but getting me on the dance floor could end the party.”

He reaches over the table and holds my hand.

“Look, I told you, I have some impressive moves, it’s going to be fun, besides I want to take you out, and what better way to than to go dancing?”

The waiter arrives with our salads, and Jaxson starts eating right away. I’m not in the mood for more green food after my lunchtime salad, so I nibble on a breadstick and watch him.

When our main course finally arrives, we make small talk, but we are hungry. Once we are done, we walk outside and find Randal parked with some other drivers.

Jaxson waves for him to stay.

“Silvia, do you mind taking a walk with me? Just down the street. I wanted to show you this fountain I go to every now and then.”

My feet are killing me, and I’m stuffed and don’t feel like walking but I will, because I don’t want that Tournedos Rossini to stick to my bones. Besides, curiosity gets the better of me.

“Sure, Jaxson, but then I need to go home.”

We walk arm in arm down the block until we come to this huge fountain that has amazing art detail. I forget all about my aching feet and walk up to the fountain, leaning down to touch the water. It’s cool and the prettiest blue, like Jax’s eyes.

“I come here and wish for things, and tonight I wanted to wish that I get to keep this feeling of happiness.” I turn and see Jax looking intensely sexy.

  “You’re happy, Jax?”

“Yes, I am, but I’m a superstitious man, and I believe that if the fountain worked to give me happiness, then I don’t want it to take it away because you really do make me happy.”

I’m not sure how to respond. Jax makes me happy too, but it seems too soon to be showing my entire hand. I don’t want Jax to be thinking he has me no matter what. Yet I don’t want to ruin this beautiful night with this man who’s stolen my heart. I just don’t want to be weak and miss anything important.

“You woo me with your words, and thank you for bringing me to your special place. To answer your question, yes, I’m happy at this moment.”

He pulls me into a hug, and I enjoy his strong embrace. He kisses my forehead and pulls out his cell to tell Randal where we are, and that he can come and pick us up.

In the car, my tired feet start aching again, and I’m so glad to be going home. When we pull into the garage, I lean over and kiss Jaxson passionately.

“What’s that for? Not that I’m complaining, but I want to know, so I can do it many times over.”

“For taking me to dinner and for being so open with me, from this morning’s love note to the pretty fountain.”

“I have more things to show you, lovely lady.”

Jaxson gets out and I take his hand and step out of the car. He moves close and waits, his eyes never leaving mine, while our lips are only a split of a hair apart.

“I’m yours, Silvia. Kiss me now, you don’t want this night to end,” he coaxes.

Even though hot sex would be a perfect end to the day, I’m going to decline that tonight.

Slowly I allow our lips to touch, and softly I peck his lips and step back. “Thank you, Jax. Have a good night.”

“Oh come on, Silvy, I have lemon cake and wine, we need to eat dessert.”

“Ah, no, we don’t need to have your cake.”

The elevator door opens and a lady steps off. I quickly step in. The last thing I see as the doors whoosh closed is Jax standing there with his mouth open, shaking his head at me.

  Once I’m home, I k
ick off my shoes at the door and go straight to my room. I’m beat and need a shower, but that will happen in the morning. I drop my clothes on the floor and climb into bed naked. The soft sheets feel good on my skin and I’m looking forward to a good night’s sleep.

As I’m drifting off, I hear my phone ding, but I ignore it. Twenty minutes later it dings three times. It’s messages, I know, but I can’t keep my eyes open to answer them. The phone starts to ding again; four dings this time. Now I’m sure it’s Jaxson, because he would be the only one to be so persistent.

I retrieve my cell and climb back into bed to read the first message.

You know I’m craving your body right now, and you give me a first date kiss

  Then it’s another message.

Can you at least do phone sex with me? And send me a picture of those breasts?

  Then another message

I’ll go first here’s a pic of my chest.

  Then another.

Please answer me baby, I need something then I’m going to bed.

I look at the messages and hope I don’t regret this. I lift the camera to capture my body under the sheet naked. I snap the picture and send it to him with the caption, ‘Love my sheets against my skin.’

It’s not long before it dings.

Damn, Silvy, please tell me I’m the only one who has a picture like this, DAMN ok a promise is a promise, goodnight sexy lady.

I smile at myself for doing something so crazy, and then I drift off to sleep dreaming about Jaxson Montgomery.

  CHAPTER 9

  JAXSON

She had me go to bed with fucking blue balls. After the picture she sent, it took all my self-control not to go over there and bury myself deep in her pussy. Eventually, I fell asleep.
