  “Navy,” he said.

  Her head tilted. “What?”

“You said army. I’m actually navy.”

Her mouth opened, but she said nothing else.

  “Jane? Is that you?”

One of the hipsters sidled up beside them. He pushed up his dark-rimmed glasses. Damn tool even wore a plaid shirt, half tucked into his skinny jeans. A tall, thin blonde stood next to him, gripping one of his arms. Kevin resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Instead he pulled her—evidently Jane—closer so she stood in between his thighs, leaning against his chest. He wrapped one arm around her waist and let the other rest on her incredible breasts.

“Uh hey, Blake,” she said. “I didn’t realize you were back in town.”

The perky blonde next to him held up her hand then gave a little jump. “We’re engaged!”

Blake grabbed his fiancée’s hand and held it close to his side. “You look great, Jane.” Then his gaze flicked up to Kevin. “So, what’s going on with you two?”

Ah, so this must be an ex of hers, and she was using Kevin to make him jealous. Not his preferred scenario, but if it kept Jane in his arms, he would take it.

“Kevin,” he said to introduce himself then reached around Jane to grab the tool’s hand. “Janie and I are together.” He lowered his feet to the floor, off the barstool rungs, and pressed himself into her backside.

“Janie?” Blake asked. “I thought you hated being called anything but Jane.” The man frowned then again pushed up his dark-rimmed glasses.

“I don’t mind so much when Kevin says it.”

Kevin leaned forward and lowered his chin on her shoulder. “Super awesome to meet you.”

He felt certain that Jane suppressed a laugh as her stomach clenched beneath his arm.

Blake frowned then looked back to Jane. “Sure. Well, it was great seeing you, Jane,” he said, emphasizing her name. “Maybe we can catch up sometime.” His fiancée seemed annoyed by that thought, but he put his hand to her lower back and led her away. The three couples settled into a booth at the back corner.

Jane spun around and braced her hands on his thighs to keep herself from falling over. “Thank you.”

“Well, it was the least I could do after that kiss.” He gave her a smile. “I take it you and Blake, the hipster, have history?”

“Yes. We dated through high school and then on and off through the first part of college.” Her eyes searched his face. They were blue, but sorta gray, too—an unusual shade. And there went that adorable grin again. “God, you’re superhot.” Then her mouth dropped open and her eyes widened. “I can’t believe I just said that. Also, can’t believe I came up and jumped on you like that. I’m really sorry.”

  “You think I’m superhot?”

She rolled her eyes. “Don’t pretend to be modest. No one looks like you and doesn’t realize he looks like a sex god.”

His brows rose. “A sex god, huh?”

She leaned forward, bracing her forehead on his chest.

  “You smell good,” he said.

“Thanks.” She smiled. “So, my friend was supposed to meet me here, but a work thing came up and she couldn’t make it.”

He was pleased she’d been meeting a girlfriend rather than another guy.

“I’m hoping you can do me one more favor. Can you walk out of here with me like you’re going home with me, and then I’ll totally leave you alone?”

He shook his head. “That is unacceptable.”

  “What?”

“I’ll walk out with you, but now that I know you think I’m a sex god, I’m not quite ready to let you go. Know anywhere around here where we can get a good burger?”

Her face split into a toothy grin. “I sure do.”

He draped an arm over her shoulder. “Then lead the way, babe, because I’m starving.”

  …

Jane still couldn’t believe she’d kissed him.

She never did things that bold. Especially not with men like him. Granted, she’d been staring at him since she’d walked into Remy’s. Initially, she’d wondered if he was a movie star. It wasn’t unheard of for them to shoot movies in this part of Texas, and she’d never seen him before. And he was really beautiful. Just a perfect specimen of masculinity. Not only that, but every time she’d dared look his way, she’d found his heated gaze locked on her.

He’d smiled at her a few times, and something in his face was open and kind. She’d certainly made her share of mistakes, but most of the time she was an excellent judge of character. So even though he was undoubtedly the most physically attractive man she’d ever seen, in real life, she’d guess he was also good people.

After several unabashedly long perusals, she’d pegged him as a soldier, not a movie star. She was certain that ball chain hid dog tags beneath his shirt. He was also built, broad shouldered and muscular, and he sported the telltale military cut.

His large hand still gripped hers as they crossed the street from the bar.

He really was being a good sport about the whole thing, which she truly appreciated. She’d have been mortified if she’d had to face Blake and her all by herself. They hadn’t been a couple for years, but she’d heard he’d met someone, and she was still single. Had been single since they’d broken up. Of course, she’d dated. Almost always she had to go into Austin for that, though, otherwise the rumor mill in her hometown ran rampant. As a high school teacher, she didn’t think having her students hear anything about her dating exploits was very wise.

“Do you really hate being called Janie?” he asked. His rich baritone voice was warm and friendly. But also sexy and all-around yummy.

“Ordinarily yes, but I meant what I said back there. It didn’t bother me when you said it. Though I’m not sure why.” She laughed. She didn’t really do this, pick up men in a bar, so she wasn’t sure how to proceed. Honesty seemed the best course of action. “Um, so I really appreciate you going along with that, and again I’m sorry I jumped on you. Not cool in this #MeToo era, I know.”

He gave her a cocky grin. “It was no problem. Feel free to jump on me anytime. Me please,” he said, laughing at his bad joke.

She chuckled. “Right. So, they can’t see us anymore.” She stopped walking but made no move to tug her hand free. If he wanted to hold her hand, she wasn’t going to stop him. But she was going to give him an out for the evening. “You can stop pretending.”

“Pretending?” His towering height and massively broad shoulders should have made her nervous, but they didn’t. Instead, they made her feel hot and prickly all over.

She found herself looking up into his ridiculously handsome face. Expertly sculpted with a square jaw and a perfectly symmetrical nose. His eyes were impossibly blue and boasted thick lashes and shrewd brows that arched expressively. But it was his lips that she couldn’t look away from. They were full, but not too full. And on either side, cocky dimples appeared when he grinned.

Seriously, this guy could not be for real. No one was this attractive, at least no one in her world. Well, except for maybe her siblings, the twins. “Are you an underwear model?”

He barked out a laugh. “Definitely not. But let’s get back to this pretending you mentioned. What is it that you think I’m faking?”

She shook her head, then she opened her mouth to explain but no words came out. He was hotter than her. Anyone would be able to see that. She didn’t want to be the one to point that out to him, though, in case he hadn’t yet noticed. Also, she was pretty sure he had a wicked sense of humor. Just the way he’d handled Blake had her stifling her laughter. Funny guys were her weakness.

Oh, but this soldier…even without the chiseled perfection of his face, he had these pure blue eyes that she was pretty sure had been sending secret messages to her ovaries. Dear Lord, just looking at his face made her forget her own name.

He stepped closer to her, kept going until he’d positioned her between his body and the brick wall of the laundromat behind her.

  Her breath caught.

“I wasn’t pretending about being hungry. I really want a burger.” His eyes dropped to her lips. “And I wasn’t pretending with that kiss. I didn’t go into that bar to meet anyone, but you’re one hell of a surprise, Janie.” With that, he lowered his mouth and kissed her.

One of his denim-clad thighs slid between her own, and she fought with herself not to shamefully rub against him like a cat in heat. Crap, it had been too long since she’d had sex, and she could seriously embarrass herself.

His tongue slid across hers, and she wrapped her arms around his neck. Of their own free will, her legs climbed up to encircle his waist. He pressed flush to her, and the hard length of his oh-so-impressive erection grazed her core. Damn jeans. Why couldn’t she have worn yoga pants? Or a skirt? Or nothing? Naked pressed to him would be exactly what she needed right about now.

His hand skimmed up the hemline of her shirt, and the warmth of his palm brushed her skin as he gripped her waist. She pressed her legs closer, rubbing him against her again. Still his lips and tongue worked her, effectively turning her to warm goo. Like Play-Doh, only sexier. His hips shifted, and she moaned.

“Get a room!” someone yelled from a car that passed.

He ended the kiss and leaned his forehead against hers. “I got a little carried away,” he said.

“I’m not complaining.” Her voice sounding husky and lust filled.

He lowered her to her feet and linked their fingers again as they continued to walk to the greasy spoon down the street.

“So, this place has good burgers?” he asked as if he hadn’t had her dangerously close to coming pressed to the wall of the Spin City Washeteria.

“Yes. And milkshakes.” She smiled up at him, feeling her cheeks tighten with the breadth of her grin. She could be helplessly goofy, especially when she was trying not to be, so she quickly looked away.

They were quiet the rest of the walk to Center Street Burgers. The little bell gave a jingle as they walked in, and Kevin followed her to a booth at the back of the diner. She sat and he scooted in next to her—not across from her. She gave him a side-eye, and he just laughed and picked up the one-page laminated menu.

His body was warm pressed next to hers, and her breathing was becoming more challenging. As crazy as it seemed, she was going to get laid tonight. She resisted the urge to pump her fist in the air. It had been a hell of a dry run. Like seven months. And that guy hadn’t been very good. She was ready to get back on the horse, as it were, and holy hell what a horse it would be.

The waitress came and took their orders, then Kevin put an arm on the bench behind her, turning his body slightly to face her.

“So, tell me more about that guy Blake. Aside from the fact that he’s obviously a hipster tool, why’s he an ex?”

She laughed. “For the record, he never dressed like that while we were together. Everyone thought we’d get married, but he didn’t want to marry.” She frowned. “At least that’s what he told me at the time. ‘We’re too young, Jane.’” She mocked his voice. “He was right about that, we were too young. But then he went on to say that he didn’t think he’d ever want to get married. Evidently, he just didn’t want to marry me. Which is good.” She held a hand up. “I don’t even miss him. We were kids when we were together.” She shrugged. “It’s stupid, but I didn’t want him to think I was still single.”

“But you are? Still single?” Kevin asked.

The waitress came and delivered their drinks, her chocolate milkshake and his soda.

“I am. I mean I’ve dated. Blake and I broke up a long time ago. I just haven’t had any significant relationships since him. In truth, I don’t really have time to date with my job and my family. I teach literature at the high school and also sponsor several of the after-school clubs.” Her life wasn’t glamourous, she knew that, but that was her. She loved her job, the kids, and the books she taught them to enjoy.

He watched her pull the cherry from the stem, his eyes darkening.

  “Tell me about them.”

  “Which part?”

“All of it. Start with your name,” he said.

  “Jane Seymour.”

  His brows rose. “Seriously?”

She grinned. “It gets worse. Okay, so my parents are big movie buffs. Their first date was to see Romancing the Stone.” She tilted her head. “Do you know that movie?”

  “Sure.”

“Anyway, so they named their first two kids, the twins, Michael Douglas Seymour and Kathleen Turner Seymour.”

He laughed, and the sound was pure magic, deep and rich. It simultaneously made her smile and made all her pussy quiver.

“So, then, Jane Seymour like THE Jane Seymour?” he asked.

The waitress brought their food, and he dove into his burger. She picked up a fry and swiped it through her thick chocolate shake and then popped it into her mouth. “Yes, like that Jane Seymour. Basically, she was my grandma Stella’s very favorite actress, and Grandma Stella died two weeks before I was born.” She chewed thoughtfully. “I’ve always felt this kinship with her, even though I never met her.” She gave a shrug and dipped another fry.

“What is happening right there?” he asked, pointing to my shake-dipped fry.

“You’ve never tried fries in a chocolate shake? Oh, Kevin, you haven’t lived.” She leaned forward and offered him the fry, which he obediently took.

  “Interesting,” he murmured after chewing.

  “That’s it?”

“I’m considering it. I’m not usually a love-at-first-bite kind of guy. So, any other famous Seymour children running about?”

“Nope, just the three of us. How about you?”

His jaw tightened, but he shook his head. “Only me.”

They ate in silence for the rest of their meal, but she couldn’t help but smile every time he leaned over and dipped a fry in her shake.

“Listen, tomorrow, I have to put on my Dress Whites and go to my best friend’s mother’s funeral.” He rubbed the back of his neck. “Not really something I’m looking forward to. But tonight…” His blue eyes met hers, and she could have sworn molten lava swirled through her stomach. Is this what happened to every woman he looked at? Was this his secret super power?

Able to melt panties with a single glance.

“Tonight, what I’d really like to do is take you back to my hotel and find at least three different ways to make you scream my name.”

She swallowed and found herself nodding.

“I like you, Jane Seymour. You’re quirky and funny and cute. Definitely the kind of girl a man would like to come back to when he gets stateside. And your kisses seem to have a line directly to my cock. So, what do you say?”

“Because you’re into me or you haven’t been with a woman in a long time ’cause you’ve been off fighting wars?” she asked before she’d thought better of it.

His blue eyes met hers, and in that moment, she knew that it didn’t even matter. The fire burning in his eyes was intense and seductive, and she wanted to climb on his lap, straddle him, and ride him like the stallion he was.

She lifted a hand and shook her head. “Scratch that. I don’t care. Forget I asked. And yes, let’s go and do all of those things you just said.” Why, oh why was she always so damned awkward? Seriously, if she could rein in her mouth, life would be infinitely easier.

He pulled out his wallet and dropped several bills on the table then stood and held his hand out to her.

She looked up at him. Holy crap but he was hot. Like Chris Hemsworth or Henry Cavill hot.

Breathe in through your nose, out through your mouth. Ohmigod!

She was going to do this. She was going to hook up with this ridiculously hot man and have a one-night stand. And if his kisses were any indication, she was going to really enjoy herself.

Her pussy was already applauding at the thought.

  Chapter Two

He kicked the hotel door closed behind them then pressed
her up against the wall. There was nothing patient or affectionate about their kisses. No, it was no-holds-barred fucking with their mouths. Her little mewls of pleasure were driving him crazy. He needed to be inside her now.

She kept one hand around his neck, but the other worked on his belt. Undressing each other would be hot, but it wouldn’t be fast. Reluctantly, he set her down on the floor and pressed his forehead to her own as he ended the kiss.

  “Fuck, you’re sexy,” he said.

“I want you inside me,” she said, her voice breathless.

He hadn’t thought it possible, but he got even harder. Shit. “Take off your clothes. We’ll go slow the next time.”

Her eyes flared and she gave him a sexy grin then pulled her shirt over her head and tossed it on the floor. Her tits were round and plump and practically spilling out of her bright-pink bra. Then she dropped her jeans and stood in front of him in nothing but that bra and some sexy-as-fuck matching panties.

He nearly ripped off his own clothes. He tossed them onto the office chair that sat at the standard hotel room desk.

She was watching him, her gray eyes darkening as she took in his body. She bit down on her bottom lip and then released a breath.

Before he touched her again, knowing he might lose control, he grabbed a row of condoms from his bag and tossed them on the bed. Then he reached for her and pulled her into his arms.

Her hand immediately went to his chest, then her fingers traced every sinewy line on his torso. He hissed out a breath.

“You’re unreal,” she said, her tone full of awe. “Truly, a work of art.”

“SEAL training. Hard not to bulk up.”

  “Well done, soldier.”

He chuckled then picked her up and kissed her. She clung to him like a spider monkey, and now only their underwear separated them. He reached behind her and flicked her bra clasp then pulled it off her in one swift motion. He dumped her on the bed then pulled off his boxer briefs.

Her eyes rounded as she took in the sight of his hard cock. He slid his hand up the length once and then again. Her lips parted.
