When Two Worlds Collide

“My bad, tell us please, we’re all dying to hear what big, important news you have,” Joey said.

Lance looked to Jeremy and Ryan and they both nodded their heads but didn’t really look interested. “Okay then, Be—” he spat out before he was interrupted once again.

Turning the corner was Larry and his gang. Before summer vacation, the sight of Larry barreling down on him would send Lance into shock, but not anymore. Lance waited for them to catch up and courageously stepped forward to greet Larry.

“Hi Larry, how was your summer vacation?”

Larry looked at Lance with a tinge of shock that the skinny little punk walked up to him like that, like they’re friends. “Bitch, please, you better step back.”

Larry directed his attention to Jeremy who he felt was at least vaguely on the same level as him. “Didn’t see you at any of my parties, what happened? They were dope.”

“Yeah, we were kind of busy this summer with other stuff,” was the only response Jeremy offered.

“Too busy to get wasted and be knee-deep in girls that want to party?” Larry asked with a look of shock and disbelief.

Everything in Larry’s life revolved around drugs and girls. He didn’t think you were normal if those two things were not your top priority.

“Yep, too busy, but I heard about some of them. My brother said he went to one and it was dope.”

“Damn right. I remember seeing Brian. The girls couldn’t keep from falling all over him. Damn to be that good looking,” Larry said, looking at Jeremy with an expression of What happened to you? You sleeping when they were passing out good looks?

Larry thought he was God’s gift to women, but it was the parties and drugs that he always has readily available that made the girls like him and everyone but him knew that.

Frankie, one of Larry’s buddies, puffed up to Lance. “Hey little bitch, what were you guys doing that was more important than one of Larry’s parties?”

Lance and basically everyone felt sorry for Frankie. He had one cock-eye that was blue and brown and his eyes always looked like they were bulging out of his head, but he was mean and very strong for his size so no one ever brought it up.

There was a high schooler that was teasing Frankie at the bowling alley last year and Frankie sent him to the hospital to get his jaw wired shut.

“Get off me, Frankie. I’m not afraid of you,” Lance said, thinking in his head, You realize I could literally melt you right where you stand.

“Oh no, you didn’t. You didn’t just tell me to fuck off,” Frankie exclaimed, raising his fists preparing for a quick fight.

All of the other kids crowded around Frankie and Lance including Larry, egging them on.

Frankie’s friends started chanting, “Where’s the beef, bitches? Where’s the beef? Frankie is getting ready to pound your dog face into hamburger!”

Jeremy, Joey, and Ryan stepped back and didn’t say a word. They knew what Lance could do.

Frankie threw a haphazard punch directed at Lance’s nose. Lance sidestepped and grabbed Frankie’s fist. He could squeeze and break every bone in Frankie’s hand but decided to give him a chance and released it. Frankie was furious. He threw some sort of karate kick followed up by a wide-wielding roundhouse punch. He missed. Lance slapped Frankie in the face so hard it knocked him out. Frankie’s legs gave out and he slumped down onto the street, asleep. Everyone looked in disbelief and Larry decided he needed to finish what Frankie couldn’t. He cracked his knuckles giving Lance all the warning he needed that he was getting ready to pounce. Lance swung at Larry first. And with his other hand gestured toward him. The illusion was that Lance just hit Larry so hard he flew back about ten feet and landed on his ass. Everyone watching lets out a string of swearing.

  “Oh shit!”

  “That didn’t just happen.”

“Lance knocked Larry the fuck out!”

Larry sat up, shocked and confused, but conscious enough to know that he didn’t want any more of that. He scrambled to his feet and without a word turned around and started running away, his buddies closely following behind him.

At the same time, Lance, Jeremy, Joey, and Ryan yelled, “WHERE’S THE BEEF, BITCHES?”

They laughed aloud and then apologized to each other for cussing.

The rest of the school year was amazing, one for the ages. The super-secret superhero gang had an amazing year.
