“Daughter of a Nephilim and one of the most powerful Sirens known, if that doesn’t make you a Princess, I don’t know what will. Stay safe, Evvy,” he answered and walked over to give me a hug.
Tears dropped from my eyes, I would miss him so much.
“I love you D, I’m so sorry is he ok?” I whispered.
“Hey, you stood in my corner for Adam, I will always stand in yours. Adam will be fine in time and so will you.” he whispered back, squeezing me lightly then letting go. Slowly, he gave Rose a quick farewell cuddle and walked out the room.
“Ready Evvy?” Rose asked, reaching her hand out to me.
“Can I have a word?” I asked her, pulling her to the side for a minute. “How did you find me? I’d really like to know.” Rose sighed.
“I’m sorry Evangeline, but we went through your mother’s box. Finding the Siren Call was a fluke. But it was all we had to go on. I’m sorry I can’t give you more than that,” she said, looking genuinely remorseful. I gave her a nod and moved back toward the portal.
I felt a hand brush lightly on my back and instantly tensed. Turning slowly, I came face to face with Pearce.
“Evangeline,” he choked with a look of sorrow on his face and a thousand unspoken words in his eyes. I shrugged his hand off me and moved out of reach.
“You let him get away,” I spat at him, ignoring his flinch.
I had questions about what had happened and how they had got to me, but my friends were all alive and we would be safe, for now, at the academy. It didn’t change the fact that Pearce had allowed Aresollo to escape, but I wasn’t ready to speak with him about it yet. We had the chance to fight another day. Avetta, though, had been right. We were in the middle of a war, a war that was far from over. And this time, with my friends at my side, I would be ready. Taking Rose’s hand, I stepped through the portal.
