“What happened?”
“The crazy bitch pulled a gun on us.”
My fork clatters on my plate. “Holy fuck. And you are just now telling me this?”
“It’s fine. Sawyer handled it. I mean, yeah…she scared the bejeezus out of me, but she’s troubled. The woman has a lot of issues, and now Sawyer has Thea on his own, and I want to be here for him and for that sweet angel. I’m just scared to screw up. That little girl doesn’t need another woman coming in and disappointing her. And Sawyer doesn’t need that either. It’s crazy, but part of me wants to go home and pack my bags and just do it. Move in. But then there is this voice in the back of my head that says he is in a weird place, and what if it was just the excitement and stress of the situation? What if he didn’t mean it?”
“What if you fall in love? There’s a spark between you. Don’t push away the possibility of something great out of fear. You’ve always been a risk taker who lives for the now. What’s changed?”
“You trying to get rid of me already?”
“Of course not. I’m supposed to meet up with Vegas so he can introduce me to his grandpa.” I grin.
“You know he is totally using this as a reason to spend time with you. Sawyer told me that the MC pitches in to take care of him when he’s not able to do it himself.”
“I don’t care what his motive is. I need a job.”
“Hmm. What did happen last night between you? You know I’m going to get it out of you eventually.”
“God, you’re so annoying when you wanna be. Fine. We kissed. It was nice. He was sweet.”
“Sweet?” I can tell by the way her jaw ticks my bestie doesn’t believe me. The man is crude, but beneath that rugged exterior I see a softer side to him. The guy who worries about his Gramps. The guy who backed off when he could have easily tried to seduce me last night. The guy who put Matt in his place when he didn’t have to.
“Yes. He was nice to me. Matt tried to call, and he gave him an earful.”
“Good. Vegas could be fun for getting your erm feet wet in the single world.”
“So…you think I should sleep with him?”
“Do you want to?”
I can’t stop the smirk that spreads over my features. “Maybe…I’m nervous. Matt put all this emphasis on waiting, and I kind of just want to get it over with.”
“Only do it if it’s something you want and can handle. I don’t know Vegas all that well, but I get the impression he isn’t wearing no boyfriend sweater.”
“I don’t expect the man to fall in love with me. That’s crazy talk. I was with Matt for so long I want to enjoy being single for a long time.”
“Fun is what you need so as your bestie I approve. What time are you meeting Vegas? Better trim up the lady garden first.”
“You’re the worst. You know that?”
“You love me,” she singsongs.
“Yeah, yeah. Go be annoying at the bakery.”
“Pfft. Char loves having me around to annoy her.” Camreigh smiles and tosses some money on the table as she slides out of the booth. “We’ll catch up later when I get off work or should I say after you’ve gotten off Vegas style.”
All the color drains from my face when I glance up to see Vegas standing behind my bestie with Sawyer and holding a to go cup of coffee. Vegas is smirking at me, and I just want to dissolve into my seat.
“What would you know about getting off Vegas style?” Sawyer growls at her.
“Nothing yet. I’m waiting for Tina to tell me all about it once she finds out.” My bestie giggles then kisses her baby daddy on the cheek. “Walk me to work?”
“Come on.” He takes her hand in his. Camreigh smirks back at me over her shoulder then moves off with Sawyer asking him where Thea is.
“Good morning,” Vegas greets me. His voice is deep and smooth.
“Hi. I guess you heard all that huh?”
“Yup. Come on, Sweet Ass. Time to meet Gramps.”
“Right.” I suck in a breath and pay for my half of the breakfast bill. I follow Vegas outside to where his motorcycle is parked next to my car. He finishes his drink and tosses the cup in the trash.
“You wanna ride with me or follow behind me?”
I lick my lips. As tempting as another ride with him is, I need to collect myself after being mortified by him overhearing that I want to fuck him. “I’ll follow you.”
“Try to keep up,” he teases and puts on his helmet.
I get in my car and wait for him to pull out so I can get behind him.
My cell starts going off with a call from Matt. I should send him to voicemail, but we were together a long time. And it seems like he isn’t going to stop until he talks to me.
“Hello,” I answer on speakerphone.
“Where are you?”
“Why do you care?”
“Why are you acting this way? Who were you with last night?”
“We have nothing left to talk about, Matt? You don’t love me. Not like you should. I want you to go on with your life and find the person you belong with.”
“So that’s it? You went out and fucked the first guy you met.”
“If you really think that of me then you never knew me at all.”
“Come home. We can talk. You don’t sound like yourself, and I’m worried.”
I laugh. “Now you want to talk. It’s too late. I’m talked out. You had years to talk to me, Matt. All we ever did was talk. I’m tired of talking.” I gaze at the back of Vegas as he roars down the road in front of me looking like freedom. “Don’t worry about me. I’m going to be just fine.”
“Tina!” He calls out my name, but I end the call. It’s time to stop worrying about what everyone else thinks and do what I want. Right now, I want to lose the old Tina and go fuck a biker named Vegas.
The rugged and sexy biker leads me to an older single-story farmhouse with white siding and black shutters. The front lawn is neatly landscaped. Yellow rose bushes hug the cement edges of the porch. A fat hound dog lays across the top step. A man I assume is Gramps is sitting in a rocking chair smoking from a pipe and reading a newspaper. Leaning next to him is a shotgun.
This should be interesting.
Chapter 6
—Vegas
I open the driver’s side door of Tina’s car and can’t help but smile watching her get out. She’s got a pair of dark jeans on that hug her ass. “I have to warn you. Gramps can be a bit of a dick.”
“I can handle a dick.” She smirks at me and leans in close enough that it’d be easy to kiss her right now.
“Oh yeah. You think so? I’ve got nine inches between my legs. Think you could handle that.”
“I uh…”
I chuckle. “Don’t worry. We’ll work up to that.”
“Who’s the broad?” Gramps crows before she can respond, puffing a pipe, and placing it on his small table. “Better not be one of those club sluts here to prance around in nothing hoping to seduce me out of my social security check.”
I look to Tina and she is biting back a giggle. “No. You crazy old coot. She’s a friend. Not a club girl. I brought her over hoping you’d get along good enough to let her do some of your laundry. Cook you a meal and pick up your prescriptions.”
“I could drive myself if that bitch Judge Nelson hadn’t revoked my license.”
“You can hardly see to hit the toilet when you piss. And you drove through the front window of the bank. You nearly ran over the second-grade class that was there on a field trip.”
“That’s how you remember it,” he grumbles and grabs his cane. “Well you gonna introduce us or not,” he rumbles and moves to stand.
“You don’t have to get up for me. Um, my name’s Tina.”
“I knew a Tina once. Didn’t like her. What are you doing hanging around this miscreant?”
“He seems like a nice guy.”
“I guess if my Greggie likes you, I’ll give you a shot.” Gramps clicks his tongue and Rufus follows him i
nside.
“Greggie?” Tina looks at me and I scowl.
“No one calls me that but Willard there.”
“So how did you go from Greggie to Vegas?”
“I’ll tell you if you agree to have dinner with me when I get back this evening.”
“You’re leaving?”
“Got club business to attend to. There’s a list of rules in my bedroom, bottom drawer of the dresser. I have to keep it hidden from the old coot. Don’t let him lie to you about liquor. He can’t have any. He’s a recovering alcoholic. And trust me, you don’t want to know what the man can be like after knocking back a few.”
“What are the hours?”
“Well you start now. I should be back by six. Good luck.” I shoot her a wink and climb back on my motorcycle.
I ride out to meet up with Dutch and Saw to head over to The Teardrop, a bar the club took over a few towns over. I got a text from Dutch. One of the girls called and said the doors were locked and Billy Jack didn’t show to open. Fucker probably got wasted and overslept.
We get to the club and Darlene is waiting for us leaned up against her rusting 81’ Camaro that’s seen better years. “Hey, boys.” She flicks her cigarette to the ground and snuffs it out with the toe of her hot pink high heel.
“Hey, Dar.” I nod.
“Isn’t that Billy Jack’s truck at the end of the lot?” Dutch questions.
“Looks like it,” Saw answers him.
I grunt. “Shit. We better take a look. Stay here, Dar.” She nods and lights up another cigarette. I walk toward to the red Chevy pickup with Saw and Dutch. The driver’s side door is ajar, and the window is down. The fat fuck is slumped over in his seat. “Wake up.” I bang on the hood, but he doesn’t budge. Fuck. Fucking hell.
“Is he breathing?” Dutch leans his head through the window and pokes him. The fat bastard fucking farts and Dutch jumps back banging his head in the process while gagging. “Godddamn, son. Holy fucking hell. My nose hair is on fire.” He’s making a fuss as Billy Jack raises up to a sitting position rubbing his eyes.
“What’s that, sweetheart. You wanna lick my asshole. I’m game if you are,” he mutters and belches.
He’s drunk. I shake my head seeing the moonshine jar spilled out on the bench seat of his truck. I shake my damn head. “Wake your fat sorry ass up, motherfucker.” I wrench the driver’s side door open and flick him on the tip of his nose.
“I’m coming, baby. You ain’t gotta be so damn mean.” He wipes at his nose, and I throw my hands up.
“Dutch, take his keys and get the bar open. I’ve got shit to do. Darlene will tell you what to do. You good?” I look to Saw.
“Gonna swing by the bakery and see Camreigh,” he tells me as we walk back to our bikes.
“Give Dutch hand will ya,” I tell Darlene as I get on my bike.
“Sure thing, Vegas,” she purrs and licks her hot pink stained lips.
Saw rides out and I follow behind him.
Chapter 7
—Tina
Matt won’t stop calling my phone. I hate to block his number but he’s leaving me no choice. He has sent me twenty-five messages in the past hour.
Matt: Baby, let’s talk.
Matt: I’ll come to you.
Matt: I miss you.
Matt: Where are you?
Matt: What the fuck, Tina, are you out fucking around on me?
Matt: I want to know who that man was answering your phone.
Matt: Are you with him now?
Matt: Did you fuck him like a slut?
Matt: If you fucked him, we are so over.
Matt: Fucking slut. I bet you fucked him.
He must be off work because left me alone most of the day until about an hour ago. I’ve kept busy. Arguing with Vegas’ Gramps about how to wash and fold his laundry was a damn war. The old man is hateful and watches me like a hawk like he thinks I’m going to steal his stamp collection. I just finished cooking him fried potatoes, sausage, and eggs because he wanted breakfast for dinner.
I’m just waiting for Vegas to get here so I can get of this man’s hair.
“These potatoes are greasy and soggy.”
“Well, I did the best I could.” I am trying to bite my tongue. I couldn’t concentrate on what I was doing with him harping and commentating on my every move. I know what he’s doing—trying to run me off so he can get his way. It was on the list of rules Vegas has hidden in his room. I walk out on the porch and sit on the top step when my phone buzzes again.
I’m afraid to look at the screen but it could be Vegas telling me I can go ahead and leave.
It’s Camreigh.
Cam: Matt was just here, and Sawyer ran him off.
Cam: He was acting all crazy and he reeked of alcohol.
Cam: I told him I didn’t know where you were,
but he acted like he didn’t believe me.
Cam: I think your mom told him you were with me.
He didn’t say. I just got that vibe from him.
Cam: You’ll have the apartment to yourself tonight. ;) ;)
I shake my head at her wink face emojis and her inability to send one large text instead of ten in a row. It drives me crazy. I had sent my mom a text earlier telling her I was crashing with Camreigh for a few days. She wanted to know what was up, but I told her I’d explain later. I guess Matt has saved me the trouble.
Cam: I’m going over to Sawyers, and I will probably stay the night.
Well that’s wonderful. I’m about to type out a reply when I hear Vegas roaring down the road on his motorcycle. I stand up and the front door closes behind me. The hound dog comes out to greet Vegas followed by his Gramps.
Vegas parks his motorcycle looking sinful and deadly in his black leather jacket and dark jeans with the knees ripped out. His big boots touch the ground and he rips his sunglasses and helmet off smiling. “I see the hateful bastard didn’t run you off.”
I shrug. “Not yet.”
“You better have behaved, old man.” He reaches into his saddlebag and pulls out a bag from the bakery. “I brought you some cookies.”
Willard waves him off, sits in his chair, and starts messing with his pipe.
“I’ll put those in the kitchen for you.” I take the bag from Vegas and go inside to give him a moment with his grandpa. I can hear the two of them through the screen door.
“Well, was you nice to Tina?”
“She’s still here, ain’t she?” His gruff voice croaks.
“Yeah, Gramps. Do you like her?”
“She’s a pretty little thing. Nothing like those other skanky things you had hanging around before.”
I smirk to myself. His Gramps thinks I’m pretty and better than the other girls Vegas has brought around. I don’t know why that tickles me, but it does. I’m lost in thought mindlessly putting the cookies into the rooster shaped jar when a hand on my hips scares the crap out of me. I didn’t even hear anyone come in. I squeak and Vegas chuckles. “Are you hungry?”
“Why?”
“Told you this morning I wanted to take you to dinner.”
“I don’t remember saying yes.”
“Thought you wanted to get off Vegas style.” He smirks and heat licks up my neck.
“You weren’t supposed to hear that.”
“I’m glad I did. I was thinking you didn’t like me.”
“I never said I didn’t like you. I said I wasn’t going to fuck you, but dinner sounds good.”
“I’ll pick you up in an hour. Need to clean up a bit.”
“You make this sound like it’s a date.”
He rolls his lips inward then pops them out. My gaze zeroes in on his mouth and I have the urge to kiss him. “That’s because it is. One hour. Be ready.” With that he leaves me standing alone at the counter. I stare off smiling like an idiot.
Shit. I gotta get ready. What the hell am I supposed to wear?
Chapter 8
—Vegas
I pull up outside of the
back of the bakery to take Tina to dinner. This is new territory for me. I never ask women out on dates. Shit I don’t think I’ve gone on a date since high school and even then, it was nothing special. I’ve never had to work to get a woman to like me before, but I think Tina is different. She challenges me. I get off my bike and walk up the stairs. When I raise my fist to knock Tina opens the door looking gorgeous. Her hair is pinned away from her face. The black top she is wearing dips into a deep V that hints at her cleavage. My gaze travels south to her dark skinny jeans that hug her hips and I find myself wanting to see her from the back because damn if this woman doesn’t have a sweet ass.
“Damn, Sweet Ass, you make think about shoving you back through that door and having you for my next meal.” Tina blushes and her lips curve into a smile.
“Maybe I’ll let you.”
My dick strains against my zipper. Damn her and that sassy mouth. I want to fill it with my cock. I find myself rubbing my finger along the bow shape of her top lip. Her gaze meets mine curiosity radiating from her. “You ready to go?”
“Yeah,” her voice comes out in a light airy tone. “Just let me lock up.”
“You can put your purse in my saddlebag.”
“Okay. Thanks,” she murmurs and locks the door behind her. I take her hand in mine and lead her down the steps. Her touch is soft and warm, and I can’t help but wonder how soft, warm, wet, and tight she’ll be when I bury myself inside her for the first time.
I give her my helmet. I’m going to take her to pick one out of her own if tonight goes as well as I hope. I get this feeling that I’m going to have her on the back of my bike often. The thought makes me smile. We ride to the Dairy Bar. It’s nothing fancy but the food is good, and we can grab it to go. I wanna take her out to my favorite spot so we can talk without distractions or expectations.
“It’s no steakhouse but the food is just as good.”
