  They followed the sounds of a one-sided conversation and came to a closed door. Ally nodded at Tar and they both stormed the door, bursting it open.

  Inside, the Grand Duke, nude except for his white hose, stood over a young frightened maiden.

  “Get out of here,” Ally told the girl who quickly and happily ran out.

  “What in blazes is going on here?” the Grand Duke bellowed as he grabbed his trousers. “Guards! Guards!”

  “Yes, uncle. Call the guards,” Ally spat. “Call them to come haul you off to prison.”

  “Prison?” He hopped into his trousers, fumbling nervously with the ties.

  “Would you prefer the gallows?” Ally said.

  The Grand Duke huffed with indignation. “You’ve gone mad, little girl.”

  “You’re the one responsible for my parents’ death,” she shouted at him.

  “Don’t be outrageous. Those dragons are responsible. Citizens from the entire kingdom saw them. They saw them flying through the sky. How can you be so naïve?”

  “Those dragons did not swoop down on Wisteria Castle to kill my parents. They came because you tricked them into coming.”

  The Grand Duke’s eyes widened.

  “Oh, yes. I know all about the king and queen of the Dark Forests.”

  “What?” Tar muttered. “Ally, what are you saying?”

  She turned to him. “Your parents along with Queen Jade were called to help out at the castle. They came thinking the request had come from my mother, but it hadn’t.” She pointed an accusing finger at the Grand Duke. “He sent the message. He wanted the citizens of Wisteria to see dragons flying in the night sky. He wanted to frame them. By the time your parents and Queen Jade arrived, my parents were already dead.”

  “Don’t listen to her,” the Grand Duke cried. “She’s mad.”

  “Tar,” Ally went on. “The Grand Duke became increasingly paranoid, fearful that your parents had seen him. Fearful that they would have him accused of the murders. He sent his men in and made it look like a raid. Your parents never had a chance, just as mine had had none.”

  The guards finally arrived. Confused they looked at the Grand Duke and back at Ally.

  “What are you idiots doing?” the Grand Duke shouted. “Arrest her. She broke into my home.”

  Ally stared at the guards who remained immobile. “Arrest him,” she ordered.

  Without hesitation, the men obeyed her.

  “No!” the Grand Duke screamed. “No!”

  The guards each took the older man by the arm and led him away, screaming.

  “I see you’ve come home.”

  Ally turned to see Boris standing behind her.

  “We’ve waited a long time, Miss.” He bowed to her. “It is a pleasure to finally have you home.”

  The Grand Duke’s trial was swift. In addition to Ally’s testimony, Queen Jade also gave her account of the events of that night.

  Due to his advanced age and his noble title, the Grand Duke was sentenced to waste away in prison but was stripped of his title. As Ally watched him being hauled away, she wondered which of the two disturbed him more.

  Once the trial was over, the decision to crown Ally as the Queen of Wisteria followed. The citizens of Wisteria loved her and were thrilled to finally have the rightful heir to the throne.

  Ally sat across the table from Jade, both looking over a map of the kingdom of Wyvern and the surrounding area.

  “This area is surrounded by rough terrain,” Jade said. “It’s hard to get through, even for those monsters.”

  “I think you’re right,” Ally said. “But what about here?” She pointed to a spot on the map between The Borders and Wisteria. “I think we’ll need to post additional guards there.”

  Jade nodded. “How did your talk with Kate and Bilbo go?”

  “They’re one hundred percent behind the unification. Everyone knows this alliance is the best thing for everyone.”

  Jade nodded. “More tea?” she offered as she stood and walked to the side table.

  Ally sat back and patted her belly. “Oh, please. I think I’m going to burst if I have one more cup.”

  Jade filled her own cup then walked around the large airy room where Ally had chosen as her working space.

  “I like what you’ve done with this castle.”

  “You mean make it a little more human.”

  Jade laughed. “That’s a funny way of putting it, considering…”

  Ally also laughed and looked at the woman who’d become her friend. They had both dropped the ‘Queen’ titles, and simply called one another by their birthnames.

  Ally stood and went to the window that overlooked the rolling hills. In all of the castle, she’d taken up the rooms that allowed her that same view. It was also the best way to get a gentle breeze that always came in from the south.

  “Queen Ally,” Boris said with a quick knock at the open door. “There are a few gentlemen here to see you.”

  Ally nodded. “Thank you, Boris. I’ll be down in a minute.”

  “The time has finally come,” Jade said.

  “I guess I can’t put this off any longer.” Ally headed to the door.

  “Be gentle with them, dear child,” Jade said with a playful smile.

  Ally snorted. “Yeah.”

  When she arrived at the inner chamber, she was surprised to see William and Drago in addition to her Cruel Princes.

  “We’ve discussed the situation among ourselves,” King Drago stated.

  Ally cocked a brow.

  “Of course, each of us would prefer to have you to ourselves,” Razor said.

  “But we’re aware of the unique position you hold,” Flint added.

  “And my mother has explained to me many times your various needs,” Jasper said.

  “I don’t have more to add other than, I love you,” Tar said.

  William eyed her. “I don’t think I need to tell you how I feel about you. Anything to simply be with you.”

  Ally smiled, relieved that they’d made it easy. A few months had passed since she had been crowned the Queen and Ruler of Wisteria. Now she had to make a decision.

  “I wish for you to know, that I love you all,” she said. “I cherish each and every one of you, and if we can allow respect and compassion to reign, we will have a very happy life together… all of us. If you will be mine, I will be yours.”
