“I haven’t been to a bonfire in so long. We’re gonna have to start making these happen more often. You think Royce will be okay with that?”

“If London’s here, I’m sure he’ll have one every fucking night,” Cill answers from the other side of the fire.

Royce comes back with a couple blankets and lays them out in the grass. “We only have six chairs, and four more people will be coming by, so some of us will have to sit in the grass.”

“That’s fine,” I say, moving to one of the blankets and making myself comfortable. I take a sip of the beer and make a face. “Ugh. Haven’t had a beer in while.”

Royce laughs. “The whiskey’s waiting for you.”

  “I’ll finish this first.”

Royce comes and sits on the blanket with me, giving me a wink. He props one leg up and rests his arm on his knee. His biceps stretch the material of his white T-shirt, catching my eye. Midge gets up from the chair to go swipe a bag of chips from Cillian and then stands near Elijah and talks to him for a while. I smile as I watch Cill walk by and steal his chips back before heading back to his conversation with Wes and Justin.

  “Who else is coming?”

“A couple people from Cill’s shop, and…” he lifts his chin and I follow his gaze and find Jon and Daniel making their way toward us.

  “Oh, yay!”

He smiles. “Hope you weren’t really looking forward to the bar tonight.”

“I only look forward to the drinks and the company. I have all that here.”

He brings his beer to his lips and takes a sip. “You go to the bar for me. You can admit it.”

  “Aren’t you cocky?”

His smile widens. “Tell me it’s not true.”

“It’s not,” I reply, bringing the beer to my mouth to hide my grin.

  “Liar.”

“Okay, look. Your presence doesn’t hurt. It’s nice to have eye candy.”

“Oh, that’s all I am? Eye candy?”

Midge walks by, grabbing a beer from the cooler. “Yes.”

I bark out a laugh. “You know half the girls that go there go for you, right?”

“Some of the guys, too,” Jon offers, plopping down onto the blanket beside us.

“Nice fire you got going,” Daniel says, eyeing the flames that rise about two feet into the air.

“We didn’t want to go too big, but we didn’t want a baby fire either,” Royce says. “Y’all are welcome to some hotdogs or s’mores. I think the supplies are on the table over there.” He points toward his patio. “Beer’s in the cooler, and I have liquor on the counter in the kitchen.”

“Ooh, maybe I’ll try to make a nice little cocktail. I’ve been practicing with that gift you got me,” Jon says, jumping up and heading toward the house.

Daniel laughs. “I’ll make sure he doesn’t use up all your liquor.”

As the night goes on, two more people show up—a stunning Asian woman with an intricate tattoo up one arm and straight, black hair that falls down the middle of her back, and a muscular guy with dark umber skin and a friendly smile that showcases his pearly whites. Royce introduces them as Bree and Khalil.

After finishing my beer and moving on to whiskey, I tell Royce I want to cook a hotdog over the fire.

“Okay, let me grab the stuff.”

He comes back with two hotdogs and two metal sticks with wooden handles. I slowly slide the stick into the end of the hotdog and quickly stick it in the fire.

“Wait,” he says with a laugh, pulling my hotdog out before guiding me above the flames. “Keep it away from the wood or you’re gonna have splinters in that thing. They won’t take long to cook, so watch for it to expand a little.”

“Oh,” I say with a laugh. “Then we can make s’mores?”

He smiles like he’s amused by excitement. “Yes, then we can make s’mores.”

“I’ve only made them in a microwave,” I admit.

“What? That’s shameful, Sunshine,” he says, shaking his head.

After I eat my hotdog, which was damn delicious, by the way, we make our s’mores and I make a mess. I have to keep licking chocolate and melted marshmallow off my fingers, but it was totally worth it.

After a while, nobody is interested in food, and everybody focuses more on drinking, and then Midge suggests we play never have I ever.

“Come on! It’ll be fun,” she whines when Cill protests. “I’ll start. Never have I ever got a tattoo.” She smirks at Cillian.

Cill, Wes, Justin, Daniel, and Savannah all have to take a drink.

“Never have I ever worn a dress,” Cill retorts.

  “No fair!” she squeals.

All the girls and Jon take a drink. When we look at Jon, he says, “It was for Halloween. Shut up.”

“Never have I ever had a threesome,” Justin says. “Unfortunately.”

His girlfriend smacks him, but he just laughs. Royce, Elijah, and Wes are the only ones to drink, though Royce tries to turn so I can’t see him.

“Not surprised,” I say with a laugh.

“I’m surprised!” Cill says, gaping at Elijah. “You’ve had a threesome and I haven’t?”

Elijah smirks and gives a one-shoulder shrug. “I’m older. More experienced.”

“Never have I ever broken a bone,” Khalil says. Three people drink.

“Never have I ever shot a gun,” Savannah says. Two people drink.

“Never have I ever gotten into a fist fight,” I say. All the guys drink.

“Never have I ever been in love,” Wes says. Elijah, Cillian, Savannah, and Justin drink. When I bring my drink to my lips, I notice Royce doing the same. I angle my head slightly to watch him, and our eyes stay connected as we drink our truth.

Right before midnight, Jon and Daniel stand up from their blanket. “We’re gonna head out. Thanks for inviting us,” Daniel says. “I didn’t drink tonight, so if anyone needs a ride home, I can take you.”

“Ooh, me!” Midge says. “I’m gonna meet up with someone.” She throws London a wink.

  “Who?”

  “I didn’t tell you?”

  “Uh. No.”

“Oh. Well, I’ll tell you later.”

  London rolls her eyes. “Okay.”

“I’m not drunk,” Savannah offers. “I’ll be driving Justin home. I can take some people, too.”

“I’ll take a ride,” Wes says.

Cill stands up. “I’ve called Zoe. She’s gonna get me.”

As everyone starts making plans to leave, I start to wonder if London is going to try to leave as well.

“You gonna stay with me, Sunshine?” I ask her, my voice low so nobody hears.

Still in front of me on our blanket, she turns around and eyes me over her shoulder. “You want me to?”

“Only if you want to, or we can arrange for you to go home. Your choice.”

She stares at me for a few seconds as the fire dances next to us. “I’d like to stay. I have something to tell you.”

My brows lift in surprise. “Okay.”

It takes half an hour, but eventually everybody is gone. Khalil and Bree got a Lyft, Cill got picked up by his girlfriend, and everybody else piled into the sober people’s cars. Now it’s just me and London sitting on a blanket in front of a dying fire.

  “Just us,” I say.

“Mmm,” she murmurs, laying down and looking up at the sky. “It’s so quiet.”

“We’re no longer surrounded by drunk people.” I chuckle and shift my position so I’m facing her.

“I was a part of the drunk people a while ago,” she says with a laugh.

  “Are you drunk now?”

“Nah. It’s been wearing off since I switched to water after that game.”

  “And ate two more hotdogs.”

“Hey! Don’t judge me. They were good.”

I lean over and grab another blanket and drape it over her legs before laying down next to her. “Getting a little colder now that the fire’s dying out.” />
“Thanks. Not just for the blanket, but for tonight. I had a lot of fun.”

“Anytime,” I reply, hoping it’s the first of many times we do this. I turn to my side and prop my head in my hand. “I’m glad you enjoyed yourself.”

“I really did.” She turns her head and smiles at me. “We have to do it again.”

“Making plans for our future, I see,” I say with crooked grin. “Let me ask you something.”

  “Hmm?”

“You break up with your boyfriend for me yet?”

I can’t help the smile that spreads across my face as I stare up into the ink black sky sprinkled with stars. I slowly shift to my side and face him. “I did.”

He stares at me for a few seconds before his face shifts as my words hit him. “I’m sorry. What?”

  “I broke up with him.”

He pushes up and looks down at me. “London, please tell me you’re not joking.”

A giggle escapes my throat. “I’m not joking. I broke up with him yesterday.”

“Yesterday? And you’re just now telling me?” he runs his hands through his hair.

I go to push myself up and apologize, but he shuts me up by leaning down and covering my mouth with his. His large hand moves to the left side of my neck and his fingers rest at the base of my skull as his thumb traces the hollow of my throat. His tongue flickers across my top lip before dipping into my mouth briefly, teasing me.

“Fuck, London,” he murmurs as he pulls away from my lips. “I’ve been waiting for this day for so long.”

I reach for him, pulling him back to my mouth. This time his kiss is aggressive, like he’s punishing me for making him wait so long. He thrusts his tongue inside my mouth, his hand moving to the back of my head and pulling me into him. This is more than a kiss. He’s claiming me with every stroke of his tongue against my own.

He pulls back so he can bite down on my lip. My breaths turn ragged as heat floods my body. “I think we should go inside,” I pant.

  “Good idea.”

The next few minutes are the hardest to get through, because we have to make sure we put the fire out before we go inside. Meanwhile, there’s a fire burning inside me.

“Leave everything else out here. I’ll get it tomorrow,” he says, taking me by the hand and pulling me toward his house.

Once inside, he slams me into the wall in the hallway, devouring my mouth and sucking on my tongue. My hands go to his hair, tugging on the brown strands as I fight for control of the kiss.

We stumble through the house until we get to the stairs, then we rush up and into his room. He smoothly pulls the shirt over his head and kicks off his shoes. I follow his lead and soon we’re both left in only our underwear.

Standing near his bed, he traces every line and curve of my body with his piercing eyes. He drinks up the sight of me before letting loose a low growl in appreciation of what he sees, then he’s all over me.

His hands follow the curvature of my hips before cupping my ass and lifting me from the floor. My legs wrap around his waist as he turns and lays me across his bed. His body covers mine and our mouths meet again in desperation. We kiss like we’ve been deprived of affection our whole lives. I’m gasping for air as he’s kissing and nibbling a path from my mouth down my throat and finally to my heaving chest.

I arch my back and he reaches around and unhooks my bra before pulling it from my body and tossing it to the floor. He cups one of my breasts before lowering his mouth to my nipple, sucking the sensitive flesh.

A gasp is ripped from me as I tighten my hands in his hair, wanting to force him to stay where he is. He releases the stiffened tip with a parting bite and a moan is torn from my throat as I push my head back and squeeze my eyes shut.

  “God, Royce.”

He slides down my body, removing my black panties before settling between my spread thighs.

“I’ve been dreaming about this pussy since you took it away from me,” he says, lowering himself to my center. “Don’t take it away again.”

I make a noise as I glance down and witness him licking his lips as he eyes my glistening pussy. He teases me by nuzzling my thigh with his scratchy beard as he kisses a path upwards.

Royce places a closed mouth kiss on my clit, and I whimper, needing more. I raise my hips, wanting his mouth on me again.

“Tell me you’re not going to leave me again,” he demands.

“I’m not going anywhere,” I promise, breathing heavily.

He places another kiss on my throbbing pussy, this time a little lower. “Tell me this is my pussy.”

With a loud moan, I grip the covers next to me. “Oh God. It’s yours. Please,” I beg.

“Please what?” he murmurs, his mouth leaving chaste kisses around my center.

  “Lick me. Please.”

A guttural, lustful growl escapes his throat, and then I feel his tongue part my lips as he laps up the arousal that’s already dripping from me.

  “Fuck,” I groan.

The noises he’s making as he devours me only spurs me on. I grind myself on his mouth, and then he slips two fingers into my drenched core, probing me as his mouth closes around my clit. His tongue dances up and down over the sensitive bud, and heat travels down my spine and all the way to my curled toes.

“Yes,” I pant, reaching for his head. “So good.”

The flicker of his tongue speeds up as does the thrusting of his fingers. My orgasm builds, hovering just out of reach, but Royce curls his fingers inside me as he flattens his tongue and gives me one final harsh lick across my clit.

I scream as I come undone under the skill of his mouth and hands. My pussy pulses around his fingers, and he slows down, but doesn’t stop their movement. He gives me a few more gentle licks, and my body spasms.

Royce removes his soaked fingers and glides them over my clit before climbing up my body.

  “Kiss me.”

I willingly oblige. I grab the sides of his face and bring him to my mouth so I can taste myself on his tongue. A feral groan comes between us, and I’m not sure which of one of us unleashed it. Perhaps both of us.

He removes his boxer-briefs and his massive erection slaps against my lower stomach.

“I want to feel you,” I plead, looking into his eyes. He stretches over to reach for the drawer in his nightstand, but I stop him. “I want to feel all of you.”

Royce observes me with curiosity. “You sure?”

I nod. “Birth control,” I state simply. “And I haven’t slept with anybody since you.”

He closes his eyes momentarily, enjoying that bit of news. His lips quirk up into a cocky grin. “Nobody could live up to me anyway.”

  “I hope to never know.”

He places a kiss on my mouth before pulling away. “I haven’t been with anyone else since you either. And I always fuck with condoms.” I nod once. “But tonight, I’m going to make love to every inch of your body, and that’s also a first.”

Before I can say anything else, his thick cock pushes into my wet and ready center with a single thrust.

  “Oh God,” I moan.

He fills me up with each pump of his hips, and every thrust rips a cry from my throat. He leans over me, his mouth whispering words I can barely respond to.

“You feel so fucking good, baby. So wet for me.” He grunts, driving in deeper as I wrap my legs around him. “You got me so hard.” He punctuates his statement with a violent thrust.

  “Yes,” I breathe.

  “So fucking perfect,” he groans.

He pushes up, and my legs fall from his hips, but he grabs the underside of my thighs and spreads me farther apart as he positions himself on his knees and thrusts into me. His eyes roam over my body before they find the spot where his cock disappears inside me.

  “Fuck.”

I bite down on my lip, loving the look on his face as he watches our bodies connect. The muscles in his stomach clench as his body tenses, and he drops one of my legs and uses his a
rm to brace himself over me.

  “Oh, God.”

I wrap my arms around him, bringing him closer, and grind myself onto his erection. A few pumps later and he’s roaring with pleasure as he releases inside me.

  “Yes,” I whisper.

Royce continues to push himself inside me, and with each thrust, I can hear and feel the wetness between us.

“Goddamn, Sunshine,” he breathes, getting back to his knees to watch his cock disappear inside me again.

He grabs the base of himself and guides himself slowly in and out, like he doesn’t want to disconnect from my body. He drops his head back as he sucks in deep breaths. With a final glance at my pussy, he pulls himself free and collapses next to me.

Twenty minutes later, we’re both under the covers of my bed and wrapped in each other’s arms. “You finally did it. And for good?” I ask.

“For good,” she answers softly. “I’m sorry I didn’t do it sooner.”

“To be clear, you’re my woman now. Don’t think I don’t want you,” I say with a grin.

She swats my chest. “I’m yours. And you’re mine.”

  “The only one I want.”

“Good,” she smiles, leaning in to give me a kiss.

I don’t bother to ask why or how she broke up with him. I only care that she did it and she’s with me now. But she tells me anyway.

“We weren’t good together,” she says, looking down at the blanket. “Hunter and I. We had good moments, but I wasn’t completely happy with him. It took me a while to realize that. I think when I began to notice that I had more fun, and felt more comfortable with the local bartender, things wouldn’t work between us anymore.” She gazes up at me with a playful smile. “You would look at me and I’d want to throw myself at you.” London giggles, a blush tinting her cheeks.

“Well, you have some good self-control,” I say with a chuckle as I run a knuckle down her arm.

“That was the problem. It got to the point where I didn’t want to have to control myself around you.”

“Please feel free to lose all control when you’re around me.”

She smirks. “Thanks for waiting for me.”

“I was willing to wait forever,” I answer honestly. “I told you being without you was agonizing, and it was, but that’s because I knew you were the only one for me. Nobody else would’ve captured my attention and my heart the way you have.” I brush a lock of hair from her face and gaze into her sky-blue eyes. “I love you, London.”
