  Frank waved his hands wildly to catch my attention.

  “Hold on one second, please.” I shot a frown at my partner. “What’s up your ass?”

  “Is that the alarm company that’s going to set up your alarm system that will be connected directly to the police department?”

  “Yeah, why?”

  “Do not, and I repeat, do not cancel that appointment. Didn’t you just fight for your life because some crazed murderers burst through your door and tried to kill you? And oh yeah, you didn’t have your phone handy to call for help.”

  “Hmm… good point.” I returned to the call. “Okay, I’m back. Yeah, tomorrow at two o’clock is perfect. Thanks, and I’ll see you then.” I hung up and looked at Frank. “Thanks for the reality check, buddy. I guess you never know from day to day, and it’s good to be prepared for anything. Oh yeah, and thanks for installing that doorbell camera. So how are you at installing doggy doors?”

  He chuckled. “I guess we’re going to find out over the weekend. I got your back, buddy. After all, isn’t that what partners are for?”
