Chapter One
Kyle groaned as he surreptitiously followed Jarrod into yet another club. This was the third one of the evening and Kyle was bored out of his skull. Following a stupid son-of-an-alpha in the hopes of getting evidence that the man liked to take it up the ass, was proving more difficult than he first thought.
When Steel first talked to him about this job, it seemed simple enough. Jarrod, son of the Alpha at the pack just outside of Des Moines, Iowa, was gay, with a homophobic father and pack. He had been caught getting fucked by another pack member, a beta wolf called Tom, by Dante who was then the Alpha Enforcer. Jarrod had screamed rape and Dante had killed Tom by accident, when trying to subdue him. Kyle had grinned at the idea that Tom had been more than a little irate at being interrupted. He figured he would have been too, especially when Tom had apparently been balls deep when discovered.
Anyhow, the incident had ended up with an unfair kill mark against Dante’s name, and now that Dante was Alpha Mate of Kyle’s pack, Steel had asked Kyle to head out to Iowa, of all places, to track Jarrod down and get clear evidence that Jarrod was willingly gay. Given Jarrod’s wolf shifter status, and that all wolf shifters had an insatiable appetite when it came to sex, Kyle didn’t think it would be a problem.
The first shock for Kyle came when he found out that Jarrod was an equal opportunity fucker. Watching Jarrod plow some busty, blond female in the bathroom of a club, the night before had given Kyle the heebie-jeebies. He had nothing against females, but he wouldn’t touch one with a ten foot barge pole. He lusted after hard bodies, solid muscles, and a tight ass.
Tonight it did seem that Jarrod was heading in the right direction – this was the third gay club they had gone to. But there was a problem when a gay wolf shifter wanted to bottom – he really needed another wolf shifter to top. Humans, by nature, were not traditionally dominant enough to take a top position over a shifter, and although Kyle personally thought Jarrod was weak willed, even for a wolf, his height and build, combined with his natural wolf spirit meant that most human males pegged him for a top, rather than the bottom he was.
Growling under his breath at the sight of Jarrod grinding against a twink half his size, Kyle pulled out his phone and hit speed dial #3.
“How goes the hunt?” A gravelly voice on the other end of the phone asked.
“Steel. Are you sure I can’t fuck him myself? It’s not that I want to, but I’ll take one for the team if it will get me off his tail,” Kyle growled.
“Smacks of coercion, you know that Kyle,” Steel said seriously. “The case against this idiot has to be foolproof otherwise Dante’s not going to be believed. The pics you get have to show Jarrod willing, unbound and on the bottom.”
“He’s going to human clubs,” Kyle complained. “Nobody picks him as a bottom because he’s too big. His cocky attitude isn’t helping either.”
“Hey,” Steel sympathized. “I haven’t got a problem with you pointing some likely lads in his direction. Surely a word in some Dominant’s ear might do the trick?”
“It might,” Kyle said doubtfully, watching as Jarrod was now grinding off between two larger men – larger than the twink he was with earlier at least. “It would help if the guy ever went to a leather bar, or BDSM club.”
“He’s what, at a dance club type place?” Steel laughed.
“Yeah,” Kyle said, his mood not improved any by his friend’s humor. “I’m in jeans, man, freaking jeans and a muscle shirt. I miss my leathers.”
“Keep at it, Kyle,” Steel said. “Go and get yourself a blowjob and you’ll feel better.”
“Yeah, if I can find anyone who can handle the size of the equipment.”
“You’ve been spoilt,” Steel said with another laugh.
“I know what I like,” Kyle growled. He spotted Jarrod heading out towards the door with the two men. Maybe he could get a picture of the guy getting spit roasted – that would be enough, surely.
“Gotta go,” he said roughly into the phone, keen to follow his mark.
He heard Steel say something about having fun as he disconnected the call. “I’ll have my fun when I get home,” Kyle muttered under his breath as he headed for the door. There was a crowd of people coming in, at the same time as he was going out, and he fought his frustration, ignoring his instinct to just push through. Human, human, human, Kyle chanted in his head, as he tried for patience. He saw a gap in the crowd and moved to go through. Human, human, hu…shifter? Kyle turned his head and caught a glimpse of shocked green eyes and a mop of loose black curls, before a wave of lust hit his body at the same time as the smell of decadent rum truffles hit his nose. My shifter!
Fuck, that’s my mate, Kyle thought as another couple of people bumped into him and he lost sight of those amazing green eyes. Torn, he stood for a moment, battered by even more people coming in through the door. Take off after Jarrod and clear his Alpha Mate – head back into the club and trac
k down the shifter that had his name written all over him. Loyalty to the pack won and Kyle headed out the door. He would come back to the club and find his shifter later. He sure as hell wasn’t going home without him.

“Who caught your eye, aye handsome?” Saul laughed in Teric’s ear, breaking his concentration on the doorway he had just come through. That tall, dark wolf was his mate, and yet…
“Hmm,” he said distractedly. Teric shook his head. “It was nothing, just someone I thought I knew.”
“I thought the only one you knew in town was me.” Fuck it, Saul was pouting, and that wasn’t a good look. But when Saul’s hand brushed across Teric’s groin, he couldn’t help but flinch. One sniff of his mate and Teric was a goner. And damn it all, the man did smell fine – like an old scotch with a hint of almonds. Teric figured the stranger was a wolf shifter, so he really didn’t understand why the man hadn’t followed him back into the club. Wolves were notorious for being possessive with their mates and Teric knew the wolf had caught his scent.
Fortunately Saul was leading them to the bar. Teric’s head was in a whirl and he couldn’t concentrate. How the hell did he end up scenting his mate when he was in Iowa of all places? The only local wolf pack for miles was known for being extremely homophobic, butTeric did not mistake the lust in the man’s eyes. Plus which, the wolf was in a gay club. So what had got his mate running out the door, instead of tracking him down? Curious and got freaked out, maybe?
“You’re not paying attention to me,” Saul said in his ear. Teric swallowed a sigh, and turned to his friend. He had known Saul since they were in school together, and although Saul didn’t know that Teric was a shifter, he was the closest thing to a friend that Teric had. His job as troubleshooter for the Shifter Council meant he spent months on the road.Over the years he had got into the habit of visiting his friend whenever he was close by.
The two men had graduated to fuck buddies when they went to college together, and up until recently, Teric had thought their extremely casual situation suited them both. But recently Saul had been talking about feelings, settling down and being exclusive. The whole thing was making Teric feel more than a little uncomfortable. He had always hoped that he would find his mate one day, and Saul wasn’t him. Scenting his mate now, with Saul being so needy, could prove the death knell of their friendship. But maybe it wasn’t before time. Teric knew he had to put Saul straight, especially if there was a hunky looking wolf shifter as a mate in his future.
“Sorry, Saul,” Teric said, making a point of turning and looking his friend in the face. “Look, I could give you some excuse. The job. I’m tired. But that wouldn’t be true. I’m just not feeling it – for you I mean,” he added when he saw Saul’s confused face.
“But…I don’t get it.” Shit, was the man going to cry? If there was one thing Teric couldn’t handle, and in his job he had to handle a lot of things, it was tears. Wrapping his arm around the man’s narrow shoulders, Teric led him out of the club. They would have to have this conversation at Saul’s place. Thinking longingly of the wolf who was supposed to be his mate, Teric wondered if there was any point in returning to the club the following night. He was supposed to head out to his next job within the next few days, but for the chance of meeting his mate he could put it off. But as he put a sobbing Saul into the car and headed back to the man’s place, he couldn’t help but also think that if his so-called mate was interested in him, the wolf wouldn’t have taken off like he had.
Chapter Two
“Those pictures are dynamite,” Steel said over the phone. “You’ve got enough, you can come on home.”
Kyle swallowed a groan, and thumped his mattress. Steel’s words should have filled him with happiness and a strong urge to get on the first plane back to Washington. But in the four days since he had scented his mate, Kyle hadn’t been able to get those wicked green eyes and black curls out of his head. As soon as he had taken pictures of Jarrod -who was being royally spit-roasted and clearly loving it - he had headed back to the club. The barman there told Kyle that a man matching the description Kyle had given him had left the bar with another man. The pretty man with the green eyes hadn’t been in the place since, and Kyle should know as he had been parked in front of that bar from opening to closing time for the past three nights.
“Kyle,” Steel’s voice broke through his thoughts. “You know I wouldn’t usually ask, but man, what’s wrong?”
Kyle let out a snort as he looked at his phone. Steel was right. The former Marine was built like a brick shit house and had the emotional skills of a gnat. But Steel had recently mated and maybe the man had mellowed a bit.
“I caught a whiff of my mate,” he said slowly. “But I was chasing after Jarrod and when I went back to the club he’d already gone, with someone else, apparently.”
“Shit, man, that’s harsh,” Steel said. “And you’ve got nothing on him?”
“Nothing,” Kyle said. “I don’t even know if he’s a wolf. In fact, I’m sure he’s not, but that doesn’t help.”
Steel sighed over his end of the phone and Kyle knew that the big shifter was trying to think of ways they could find this errant shifter. After a long moment Steel spoke up. “Look Kyle, I need you to get back home. There are a few things here that require your support. I promise…” Steel continued as Kyle went to protest, “I promise that if you give me three days, then me and Levi will head back to Des Moines with you and we’ll take the place apart looking for this shifter of yours. You’ve got to trust in Fate, okay? We will find him.”
Kyle really didn’t have any choice but to agree. Steel was his boss and if he said that Kyle was needed back at the pack, then Kyle would have to go. All shifters knew the importance of finding a mate and Kyle had to trust that Steel wouldn’t let him down. And as for trusting Fate?Yeah, all very well and good for you to say that Steel, tucked up in bed with Levi. But even as he fumed at having to leave the one place he knew his mate had been, Kyle packed his bag and headed to the airport. He’d done his job and now…well for now he had to trust in Fate.
At least once he got home he could wear his leather pants again. He had his leather gear all custom made, and his pants were made of the softest leather, with fine stitching that was like wearing a second skin. The seams on his jeans were giving him a rash.

Ordered to report to the Alpha’s office at nine in the morning would usually be something that Kyle would have had a problem with. He enjoyed the night life offered by the Bound and Bonded club and after more than a week without any relief except his own hand, Kyle’s skin was crawling he was so horny. But as he had wandered through the club on his way to his room the night before the meeting, not one of the subs that would usually catch his eye, did anything for him. None of them did.
“Fucking mating curse,” he muttered as he brushed off yet another sub. The club boasted a three to one, sub to Dom ratio and Kyle had enjoyed more than his fair share over the years. He didn’t have a particular look that he went for. He simply needed his subs to be obedient, subservient and to be able to handle the size of his cock in both ass and mouth.
“Master Kyle. Can I serve you this evening?” Kyle looked down to see a small, blond sub with gelled hair, kohl around his blue eyes and lip gloss on. Will. How the man could call himself a wolf shifter with all of that shit on his face was beyond Kyle, and he didn’t even bother to hide the snarl on his face. Will was a proven trouble maker, having tried to get another Dominant into trouble with the Alpha when the Dom wouldn’t have sex with him. Kyle didn’t need that sort of grief, even if he hadn’t scented his mate.
“Not interested, Will,” he snarled, hoping the guy would just back off.
“But Master Kyle,” Will protested. “We’ve never…”
“No we haven’t,” Kyle said, knowing he was being rude, but unable to help himself. “And there’s a reason for that. I like my men clean smelling and natural. I like my subs to be discrete and
to accept who is the Master in the scene. You Will, are none of those things, so why should I bother with you?”
“You don’t have to be so hurtful,” Will said and it looked like he was trying to squeeze some tears out of his eyes. “You’ve been with damn near every other sub in the place. I just thought you’d like to try something different with me.”
“I’m not looking for a full time sub, Will. You are looking for a Master to collar or claim you. It won’t be me, so don’t waste my time.”
“Are you usually so rude, or is this a special occasion?” A sultry voice asked behind Kyle’s shoulder. Kyle took a long sniff before he turned around, and with the speed at which his cock went from zero, to right-fucking-now, he knew there could only be one person standing behind him.
Oh. My. God. His fantasy from the club in glorious Technicolor. Well actually, a riot of black curly hair, lightly tanned skin, bright green eyes and a body, dressed in black, that Kyle could happily feast on for days. “Green eyes.” The words came out in a breathy moan, which was amazing in itself, given that all of the blood in his body had gone south and was taking up lodgings in his cock. Words were almost impossible at this point.
“Teric,” Teric said with a grin as he held out his hand. “And you are?”
“Yours,” Kyle said, with a groan as he ignored the hand completely and pulled Teric into his arms. He had imagined a lot of things over the past four days, but his mate turning up at the Bound and Bonded club was not one of them. However, never one to look a gift horse in the mouth, especially with a mouth as fine as Teric’s on offer, Kyle decided talk was overrated and that the two of them had a lot better things they could be doing. Like finding the nearest flat surface.
/~/~/~/~/
Teric could barely breathe. His new mate was strong and while Teric knew he could break the man’s hold if he wanted to, he figured it was probably better to let the wolf shifter have the upper hand for now. He definitely didn’t expect to meet his mate during an assignment. All Teric had been told was that the Washington Pack was under threat from a shifter named Favo and he had been ordered in to assist. It was his job, but meeting his mate, damn he wished he knew the guy’s name, was more than an added bonus.
