His Type

It’s only a few minutes later though when I see a commotion on the sidewalk a little way ahead. Brushing it off at first, my eyes are drawn in as I get closer – Ellie.
And there’s a man with her. His hands are all over her, tugging at her arm, grabbing her ass. I bring the car to a screeching halt and launch myself towards him with nothing but pure anger coursing through me. Just as he tries to pull Ellie in for a kiss, I pull him back and throw the creep against a brick wall.
My immediate instinct isn’t even to hit him – it’s Ellie, again, and always. I scoop her up in my arms, inspecting her face, checking her arms, making sure he hasn’t left a mark on her before I press a kiss against the top of her head, and her fingers cling to my shirt for safety.
But apparently this asshole didn’t get the message. I see a shadow move, and a split second later, turn to find the guy lunging towards me, catching him with a hand around his throat.
“Does it make you feel special, huh? Does it make you feel powerful, thinking you can do that to women?” I give him a bone rattling shake, slamming him into the wall. “Boys like you make me sick. Because you’re not a man. No man would ever, ever hurt a woman like that.” I can’t feel anything but blind rage, and a twisted part of me enjoys seeing the vermin struggle against me.
Until Ellie’s voice cuts through the clouds, insisting he’s not worth it, pulling me back from him. She tries to pull me along by the arm, and I turn to give her a kiss on the back of her hand, with my other still wrapped around the guys throat.
“Go wait in the car. Go.” It’s the first time I’ve ever spoken to her like that, but she does exactly as she’s told. She doesn’t need to see what’s about to happen.

The first thing I hear once my back is turned is a sharp, cold, deafening crack, and I don’t need to look back to know my attacker must be out cold.
I feel shaken, sick to my stomach. As soon as I get into Callan’s car, I break down, unable to hold it together any longer as I bring my knees to my chest. He joins me mere moments later, and without saying a word, wraps his arms around me and pulls me into his lap. He cradles my head against his chest, holding me tight, and I can still feel the anger in his always tender grip.
“I should never have let you leave like that,” he growls under his breath. But I quickly shake my head, looking up at him as he wipes the tears from my cheeks.
“Don’t blame yourself. Don’t. It wasn’t your fault. I shouldn’t have let what he said get to me.”
“Kerrick’s already gone baby. All it took was a few phone calls. He’ll be on some beach enjoying his early retirement by the end of the week.” For the first time, staring back at Callan, it dawns on me just how much power this man must have. And not just over me, but over the entire company – over anyone he so chooses.
“You can do that? Just like that?” He takes my face in his hands, planting a soft and gentle kiss on my forehead. I love how he’s able to switch between strong and sweet when he’s around me, so much so that I don’t even feel scared any more, his touch simply soothing all of the fear.
“For you, Ellie, anything. I love you.”
I can’t help bursting into tears again, but they’re happy tears this time. “I love you too,” I sob, kissing him deep, clinging onto Callan with no intention of ever letting go now.

It took some convincing, but Ellie finally agreed to pick a date, and that day had finally come.
Leading her into the office, hand in hand, I drop her off at her desk with a kiss for the last time. She insisted that she didn’t want to quit working, that she didn’t want to become another stuck–up trophy girlfriend – but I could see being a personal assistant wasn’t exactly her passion in life.
So, I told her that if she really enjoying being someone's admin slave so much, she’d simply have to find someone else to do it for, because I wouldn’t let her work for me anymore. I want to see her happy, see her doing something that brings her as much joy as she has brought me over the last three months.
She gave in once she realized how serious I was. She had always insisted she’d only ever wanted a small, simple life, so I think it took her a little longer than expected to adjust to life with a billionaire. I had to remind her that she wouldn’t be taking the subway any more, that’s for sure, and she certainly wouldn’t be working for any men who made her feel less than the goddess she is.
She turns back to look at me from her desk with a smile – I swear, this girl must have a sixth sense for when I’m thinking about her. Which, admittedly, is constantly.
Thankfully she can’t see under my desk, and the little velvet box I turn over in my hands. I’ve been waiting weeks to find the right moment to break it to her, but I can’t help myself any longer. Tonight’s dinner will have to do.
I finally thought of the perfect job for Ellie – I think ‘wife’ will suit her perfectly.

Watching Callan stare back at me with his ever–playful smirk, I have to laugh and shake my head. Poor guy doesn’t know what he’s in for.
He wouldn’t stop bringing up the topic of when I’d finally quit working for him, but I guess now I couldn’t escape it any more. I’d start showing soon, and with how well Callan knows my body, I know I wouldn’t have been able to hide it for very long.
He had also agreed to drastically cut back on his time in the office to make more room for us, now that we wouldn’t be spending quite as much time together – down to just a couple of days a week after today, I did wonder whether he’d miss the pressure of the office.
Lucky, then, that I have a new full–time job lined up for him – ‘Daddy’ doesn’t pay quite as well, but I get the feeling he won’t mind too much.
