I laugh. “Same.”
He laughs. “At least we're on the same page.”
I reach for his hand. “I still love you. But I've got a shit ton of issues. I have no idea what's going to happen with Jay. And sometimes, I just don't wanna talk about everything.”
“Like two nights ago,” he says.
I nod. “Like two nights ago. Yeah. I can't just open up on command. You have to trust me.”
“And you have to trust that you can tell me the truth,” he counters gently. “About anything. I promise I’ll listen. I won’t judge. I won’t jump to conclusions. Just let me in, Nola.”
“I will,” I tell him. “I won't keep anything from you. Ever again.”
He squeezes my hand. “Okay then.”
“Okay then.”
He leans over and kisses me.
And I kiss him back.
There is so much comfort and desire wrapped in that embrace.
Finally, I pull back. “So now what?”
He laughs. “I literally have no idea. But I know that I love you, too.” He looks at me and his expression grows serious. “And there is one thing that I was wrong about. And I need to come clean about it.”
My stomach knots. “What?”
He reaches for me and pulls me on top of him. He puts his hands on my cheeks and looks at me.
My heart flutters.
He kisses me, then looks at me. “I could never walk away from you.”
