The men looked at each other, and, for a second, I wondered if I was overstepping. I’d just assumed that they still wanted me to stay. What if they were just letting me recover here and then expecting me to move on?
“That is…” I paused and bit my lip, “I want to stay if you all want me to, of course.”
“If we want you to stay?” Declan lunged and lifted me straight off my feet. He wrapped his arms around me and twirled me in a circle. “You’ve got to be fucking kidding, Teagan. Fuck yeah, we want you to stay.”
A laugh of happiness and relief escaped me, and I buried my head against the big guy. The moment Declan set me on my feet, he lifted my hand to look at Lucas’ ring. “You know you have a lot more room on that finger.”
“Are you saying you want to marry me too, Declan?” I asked with a laugh.
Leaning in, his mouth crashed down on mine, and my toes curled as he kissed me deeply.
He broke away and grinned. “Fuck yeah, I’d marry you.”
Jasper’ hand wrapped around mine and he examined my ring. “Are the men supposed to have one too?”
There was so much to unpack in that question. First, he definitely said men in the plural, and second, he honestly sounded like he didn’t know if the groom was supposed to have a ring or not.
At a loss for how to start answering him, I shrugged. “I don’t have any rings.”
“We could probably hire the demons to forge some,” Chad suggested. He was sitting at the end of the bar with his eyes half-closed, looking like he was ready to pass out.
“Maybe cock rings,” Ace said with a snort as he leaned into the counter, His eyes narrowed. “Only the fae and witches make rings, but anything crafted by either of them has a high chance of containing hidden enchantments.”
“I’m all for avoiding fae magic. We just got rid of the fae in the firehouse,” I said as I crossed to Chad. This whole conversation was making my insides squirm in a wonderful way.
“I second that,” Chad said, and he leaned, looking like he was about to fall out of his chair.
“Hey, Chad.” I offered a hand to him. “Thank you for making our night so special, but you look like you’re about to go into recovery again.”
His large hand wrapped around mine and the rockstar stood. As we headed to the room, Lucas headed in with us, as if we’d already arranged it. We piled onto the bed, Lucas behind me while I laid my head on Chad’s shoulder. A few minutes later, two massive wolves trotted in with Ace behind them. We all piled together, and the pack magic cocooned us.
“I never dreamed I could have this,” my words were interrupted with a yawn.
Lucas’ hand wrapped around my waist, and he whispered into my ear, “You were our dream, too.”
“Hmm…” Their warmth wrapped around me, and I knew I was safe.
When I was almost asleep, my eyes snapped open. A horrible thought crashed into my happiness.
This couldn’t last.
Chad and I had barely survived Oliver Hunt, and Oliver was an ant compared to the mountain that was Kane. The alpha who claimed me as his wife would crash over us like an avalanche and all the happiness that I was building here with this pack would be smashed to splinters.
Jasper raised his lupine head and looked down at me, his blue wolf eyes fixing on mine with a strange and deep understanding.
“I’m okay,” I whispered, and I reached forward and scratched behind his ears. “We’re all going to be okay.”
As I closed my eyes, I knew that I had just uttered the biggest lie I’d ever told.
