Song of Blu

“Sounds like a book people problem.” The king said.
“That’s not all! He’s a lying crook. He was once a gang member. He doesn’t deserve such a high ranking, let alone be part of the Marine Corps!” General Plows said.
“General Pillow Fort!” Warmaster Noxxic warned. The king whirled to the general.
“One of the marine’s mantras is redemption through services, so allow him to redeem himself. Redemption awaits the living.” The king said, simply.
“My king, I implore you!”
“I don't care.” The king said. My eyes widened. The king himself doesn’t care about my history. That’s all the consent I needed. I will push forward to redeem myself for all the crimes I committed.
“You don't care?” General Plows echoed, almost shocked.
“No, I don't. Why would I care that someone was once a gang member? Most gang members are simply the products of my system. The system I created so that the majority of the kingdom worlds could live in relative peace. I won’t dare crucify a victim of that system, choosing to fight my many wars. Especially one who saved one of my very few grandbabies.”
The king's words sent the general into a state of shock. He simply stood there, gawking like a child. I couldn’t help but grin under my hand, which drew the general’s attention. He grimaced, and newfound courage made him speak more to the king.
“I fear I may overstep my bounds, my king.” He said, kneeling. The warmaster shook his head while facepalming, and the king didn’t seem impressed. “My record is peerless. I have won many wars for you. All I ask in return is to please hear my words.”
“I’ve heard your words, and I don't care much for them.” The king said. The general’s eyebrows arched. “People aren’t chess pieces. Your peerless record won’t save you from the bad will you accumulate. You keep this behavior up, and you’ll see death before old age. I see them now, all glaring at you.”
“See what?” the general said, his face went pale.
“The souls you damned on your way to your precious record. I’m done with you, general. Warmaster, get him out of my sight.” The king said. The general mouth dropped, and the warmaster dragged him out of the way. Before warmaster's personal marines escorted him away, he glared at me with eyes of hatred. I will pay for this later, but now I enjoyed my victory.
Maria walked past me and gave the high king the child. The king held his grandbaby and started poking his belly, making him giggle. Everyone watched him act so human with his grandbaby. However, Maria had one more thing to ask.
“Your Grace, I appreciate the rank, but I have a different request,” Maria said.
“Name it.”
“Warfare isn’t for me. I can’t continue being a marine. I’ve killed too many people, and it’s been giving me nightmares. I want to transfer to the servitor corp.” Maria said. The king looked at her for a moment.
“I see, lost has broken you.” The king said, and Maria broke.
“I keep watching them die in my arms,” Maria said. “I keep remembering how much life they had and watch myself fail to save them. I can’t do that for another ten years. Please give me a transfer. At least then, I can help people I’m not attached to.”
“Absolutely, little one. You actually gave me an idea for a program for marines to transfer into different corps.” The high king said, typing on his omniwatch. I noticed the notification of Maria being transferred out of my company. For some reason, that hurt, but I understood. Gary’s and many other deaths wounded her soul. Being unable to save them must haunt her. Maria turned to us and gave us hugs.
“My king!” Warmaster Noxxic yelled out.
“Warmaster Noxxic”
“I’m surprised you remember me.”
“No one could forget a psychopath like you, Noxxic.”
“Oh, don't make me blush. So all this for a baby?”
“My first grandbaby.”
“I thought Orisha couldn’t have babies. How does this happen?”
“That’s classified.”
“Oh, Classified.” warmaster said, making silly gestures. The man’s gall never ceased to amaze me.
“You would be privy to classified information if you took a Commandment position like they have been begging you to.”
“And miss all the fun of the frontline combat?! What if I did take that role and got this distress call about ten alien armies attacking a planet? And I have to sit there and give that sweet ass mission to some rookie legion. No sir! Not me! I’m going to be kicking ass until my last breath, ain’t that right, marines!”
“Oorah!” we all said. The high king chuckled and then floated up to the air with his grandbaby in his arms.
“It’s time I get myself and this grandbaby to safety. Good fight, marines.” The high king said as he flew away. Warmaster stood next to me as we both watched.
“It’s over,” I said.
“Yep, it’s over. Another war campaign finished.”
“You’ll think he’ll remember me when I try to become a Vindicator?” I asked. Warmaster made a face, then he started to laugh.
“You probably the first person who ever gave him a baby with a dirty diaper. Oh, he’ll save memory banks for this moment.” Warmaster Noxxic said with laughter.
“Please stop,” I begged, feeling embarrassed. But he continued while roughly patting my back. “Please.”
“You just making me laugh more, son!” Warmaster Noxxic said.
Thank you!
