Awakened

  Reagan wrestled the gigantic, lumbering wolf to his feet. “Oh yeah, like I have any control over this ass!” She huffed.

  Trystan and Amanda tried to hide their laughter, but lost the fight. They exploded, bending over and holding their stomachs as Talon found his bearings and grabbed Reagan around the waist.

  Talon tugged her close, despite her beating on his chest, and slid his leg between her knees. He swayed their hips side to side to a rhythm only he heard. “Come on, baby. You know you love that song. Especially when it’s playing while I─”

  Reagan clamped a hand over his mouth. “And I’m dropping you in your bed now.”

  Rhys laughed as the pair swayed and stumbled their way to the main house. He rose and pulled a still sleepy Makenna to her feet. Swinging her up into his arms, he followed Talon and Reagan. “Come on, love. It’s way past bedtime for my queen.”

  Makenna slapped at his chest lazily. “Are you kiddin’? I could keep goin’ for hours. Maybe even drink you under the table.” The truth drained from her proclamation as a yawn opened her mouth wide. “But we can test that another night.” She snuggled in against his heart, where she lived.

  Trystan slung Amanda over his shoulder in a fireman’s carry.

  She kicked at him, and he pinned her legs with one arm. “Hey! Why can’t you be all romantic like Rhys?” Her laughter took the bite out of her words.

  Trystan chuckled. “Aw, you know you love that I’m an animal.” He growled and snapped his teeth. Then he smacked her ass with a crack that rang through the field and took off running. Amanda’s giggles echoed in the growing dawn.

  Rhys huffed out a laugh. He couldn’t have been happier about a mating in his pack than he was about theirs. It’d been a long time coming. They were the perfect Beta pair.

  Rhys climbed the stairs to their suite, fully intending to get his mate undressed for bed and then crawl in behind her to hold her as they drifted into a peaceful sleep. Makenna had other plans. They rang in his head and heart as she slowly kissed a path up his neck. He smiled as he shut the door and headed to their bedroom.

  Setting her on her feet, he quickly divested her of that beautiful dress. “Sleep, love. It’s been a long day.” He would give her whatever she wanted, always, but knew she had to be exhausted after the long, wonderful evening.

  Makenna shook her head as she just as quickly removed his shirt and slacks. “Nope. I’ve never had a full-fledged king before. And I don’t wanna sleep ’til I have.” She kissed his chest, her hands wandering.

  Just like that, he was lost.

  They tumbled to the bed in a tangle of arms and legs, laughing and kissing.

  Later, as the sun rose high in the sky, he gazed down at the exquisite creature beside him.

  Now that there was peace, he could show her the true beauty and wonder of their world. Teach her all the things she hadn’t had an opportunity to learn yet. Perhaps they could try starting a family soon. Not right away. Rhys knew she wasn’t quite ready for it. But she did want it. That thought made his heart skip a beat as he brushed perpetually wayward hair out of her serene face.

  Home. Family. Pack. He’d show her what those words truly meant. He’d give her everything she’d ever desired, and a few things she didn’t even know she wanted.

  They would rule the Fianna as one. They’d conquer the demons that remained from the war. Rid this world of the things not meant for it.

  Together, they would build the world of their dreams.
