“I can honestly say I don’t think Paige would offer you such an important role in her company if she didn’t think you could handle it. Sure, she might have offered you a job if she felt sorry for you, but it would have been just in the office or helping someone far lower down the food chain than the CEO of a multi-billion-dollar company. As harsh as this sounds, Paige is a businesswoman first and your sister second. She needs someone to help her run her company and her life. If she didn’t think you had talent hidden, then she wouldn’t have asked you. Do you know what I mean?” I hope I haven’t been too blunt but explained it plain enough for her to see the truth.
“I do, and that’s what scares me. It excites me, it really does, but scares the shit out of me at the same time. What if I make a mistake that costs her money or her reputation?” I can see the internal anxiety she’s dealing with.
“Then you apologize and help fix it. We all make mistakes in life, but it’s how you deal with it afterwards that’s the important thing. No one is perfect. I mean, look at Paige, she chose Mason, which she will regret for the rest of her life.” I laugh at myself.
“Lex, you are awful, I’m being serious.”
“I was too.”
“Very funny. But honestly, do you think I can do it? The job, I mean.”
“Baby, I think you can do anything you want to. If you truly want this, then go for it. You will never know if you don’t try. You have learned the hard way that you need to dream big and fight for it. You have never given up trying to make life better for you and the kids. This is another step in you gaining the independence you crave.” I let that sink in before I say the last part. “But know that no matter what you choose, I will support your decision.”
“Am I bad mother for leaving the kids while I work?”
“No way in the world. You thought they couldn’t survive a night without you, and how did that work out for you? They’ve spent time learning new tricks that make them both laugh hysterically, and you were so wrapped up in me that you didn’t even have time to worry about them. I’m all for more Mia time.” I wink at her.
“You are terrible, Lex. I don’t know how you survive in a courtroom. You can’t seem to hold a serious conversation for long.”
“You’d be surprised. I’m as boring as they come in my work, but then again, I never had a client as sexy as you,” I say, shrugging at her.
“I hope you don’t give all your clients the special treatment you give me.”
“Let’s clear this up right now. You are not my client and you never were. That may have been what you thought, but to me, it was always more than that. And besides, as of this morning I’m no longer your lawyer. Jacinta is, and I can guarantee you will not get the kind service you got from me, with her.”
“See? Remember, serious conversation, can you hold it together for longer than five seconds?”
“With you, not a chance.”
I can see she’s thinking hard, and then out of nowhere she blurts out, “I’m going to do it. I’m going to take the job.”
“Good for you. Paige will be so excited, and it gives us another reason to celebrate.”
Then her smile turns a little sexy. “Lex?”
Shit, what now? “Yes.”
“Does Ashton have to follow us all the way home?”
“Just until we hit Chicago, why?”
Biting on her bottom lip, she looks at me. “Any chance we can christen that bed of yours to celebrate before we go home to the kids?”
My cock is instantly reacting, and these business pants aren’t made for the extra room I now need.
“Fuck, how fast am I allowed to drive? Because I’m all for your excellent suggestion, I’m just not sure I’ll make it upstairs to the bed the first time. You know how partial I am to couches.” While she’s blushing and giggling, I call Ashton. As soon as the call connects, I don’t even give him a chance to talk.
“As soon as we reach the outskirts of Chicago, you’re on your own. Thanks for your help.”
His laughter roars through my speakers. “Okay, lover boy, you lasted longer than I thought. You got it, man. Have fun, you two, and I’ll talk to you tomorrow.”
Mia just laughs as I reply, “Oh, we will, there is no doubt about it.”
“Ashton,” she says between giggles. “Seriously, though, thank you for everything. I couldn’t have gotten through all this without you by my side.”
“Anytime, Mia.”
I cut him off before he says anything smart about me again. “Yep, thanks, Ashton, now you’re off duty and I will be taking care of my girl.”
“Lex!” she yells at me, and Ashton just chuckles, saying goodbye as I disconnect the call.
Shaking her head at me, I see her texting a message which I’m guessing is to Paige to let her know we’ll be a little later than expected. My thoughts are confirmed when she giggles and looks at me.
“Paige said you better make sure it’s worth it. Mason is ready with every smart comment for when we get home. Apparently, he’s messaging the boys now.”
“Asshole, but I don’t give a shit. I’ll take anything he’s got to get some time with you right now. I hope you know this is not a ten-minute stop, baby.”
“If you ever think I’ll be happy after ten minutes, you underestimate the heaven I was in last night. I want more, a whole lot more of that, and I am not ashamed to say it.”
“Fuck, yeah.”
Chapter Twenty-Six
MIA
Two weeks later
“How long is your lunch break?” Lex mumbles as he throws his jacket onto the chair in the corner of the hotel room, his pants already undone and the shirt coming off.
“Less talk, more skin. We have forty-five minutes before I need to be back.” My skirt falls to the floor and my hands try to get the shirt buttons undone as quickly as I can.
“Don’t you dare take off that garter, stockings, and heels, you look so fucking hot,” he moans, coming towards me while I giggle and edge backwards to the bed.
“Aren’t you supposed to be in a meeting?” I try to distract him as the backs of my legs hit the bed.
“I am. A very important meeting with my girlfriend who needed some help.” His hands settle on my waist. He drops his head and the first kiss on my neck already has my whole body on fire. “Helping her to remember what this feels like.” His hand grabs my breast and starts squeezing it. “And this.” His mouth is now licking up my neck and the goosebumps follow. “But most of all… this.” His finger slides under my black lace panties, and the moment he touches me my legs almost collapse out from under me.
“Oh, Lex…” I’m quivering as he rubs up and down.
“See, you need reminding because between your kids and your sister, I can’t get time to make you feel like this.” My hands drag down his chest and I can feel every rock-hard ab, and honestly I want to lick them too. His fingers are now moving faster, and I want more.
“Fuck, Lex, I want you. I need to feel you.” I move my hand to take his cock that’s standing tall, pushing against my stomach. I love the groan that comes out of his mouth. The power he gives me when we’re together is such a turn-on for me.
“Oh, you’re going to feel me alright.” He takes his hands off me, which almost has me screaming at him to keep going, but instead he quickly lowers me to the bed. My anticipation of what is about to happen has me panting and my heart is racing.
“I hope you brought a spare pair.” His sexy voice has me almost coming before he touches me again. Before I even have time to answer no, he’s ripped the lace and his mouth is on my pussy. I can’t even breathe as his tongue keeps sweeping slowly up, and the hair on his face stimulates everything around it.
“More…fuck…Lex… I need…” I can’t even say what I need. But it doesn’t matter because as he pushes his fingers inside me and bites down on my clit that’s throbbing hard. I scream.
“Leeeexxxx!” The room spins and my whole body shakes as the orgasm scream
s through me. His hands continue to stroke me to keep me going, and he leans over the top of me.
“That’s my girl. Now, I need you.” Kissing me hard, he pushes his cock inside me. While I’m sliding down from the first high, my body instantly reacts to him as he pounds into me.
“You are so tight, fuck, you make me want to stay here all day.” Wrapping my legs around him, my heels that he wanted left on are now digging into his ass.
“Fuck, you need to come again because I can’t hold it much longer.” I’m so close that I’m almost scared of the sensation that’s taking me over the edge. He knows that, because he reads my body so well. Just as I’m teetering on the edge, he grabs my tit and pinches my nipple, hard, and doesn’t stop while I scream through my second orgasm, and he roars my name as he lets go.
I’m sure I almost black out as he slowly pushes inside me a few more times, enjoying every last moment of his orgasm. He starts kissing softly on my shoulder and up my neck, nibbling on my earlobe, which he knows I love.
“I missed you last night, in my bed.” He sounds like a little child sulking.
“I know, but I have to be with the kids.” I’m giggling now as he starts on my neck again. I never knew how ticklish I am there.
“Well, your sister is mean because she has banned me from her couch. Damn Mason told her he found a white stain on it.”
Nearly dying with embarrassment, I try pushing him off.
“No way baby, I’m not done with you yet.”
“Lex, oh my god, was there really a stain? Shit, we never have full sex on it, but maybe I dribbled out of my mouth last time.” I’m freaking out and all he can do is laugh at me.
“Mia, ignore him. There is no stain, but it’s his way of trying to tell your sister that I’m cramping his style as much as he’s cramping mine.” He lets out a big sigh and lays beside me on the bed. “I’ve lost you in the moment now, haven’t I. You’re too busy freaking out about a non-existent stain. Now fucking Mason is cockblocking me too, just like Paige and the kids.”
I roll on my side and lean my chin on his chest, looking at him.
“It’s okay, sexy Lexy, we still have time before you go.”
“What did you just call me?” Oh shit, I’ve never said that to his face before, but it just slipped out.
“Umm sexy Lexy.” I pause to see his reaction. “I mean, it’s true, so I just call it how I see it.” I try to keep a straight face and not laugh.
“You think I’m sexy, huh?” He moves his hands under my arms and drags me on top of him.
“No, I think you’re so ugly, I just close my eyes while we have sex.” I can’t help it any longer and the laughter bubbles out.
“So sassy today, aren’t we. I don’t think you should work with Paige anymore, she’s rubbing off on you.” The sparkle in his eyes tells me how happy he is.
The last few weeks have been amazing, and although a massive learning curve, my new job makes me feel like I belong in this family, and I’m creating a future for my own little family. I even got to have my first girls’ night out. Not that I could tell Lex much of what happened that night.
I mean, how do you tell your boyfriend that you spat your drink across the table when Fleur called the guys the Fuckalicious Four and no one bats an eyelid? My Lex, I can vouch that he is definitely fuckalicious.
The girls are hilarious, as is my sister when she’s drunk. It’s one of the other things I’ve learned in the last few weeks, that people can drink and enjoy themselves and it doesn’t make them nasty or escalate the evening to something more than drunken fun and really bad karaoke songs. Not that I was drinking, and I certainly wouldn’t get up and sing for them. I keep that close to my chest and still won’t even sing for Lex.
My life is finally coming together, and I’m starting to see a future in this world of theirs.
“Where did you just go?” Lex’s voice brings me back.
“Just thinking about how happy I am. You might think I’m changing, but I hope it’s for the better.”
“Mia, I don’t seriously think you’re changing. I believe this is who you’ve been all along, I just think you needed to feel safe enough to let the real you shine.”
He always knows what to say to me when that element of doubt slips in.
“I love… how you make me feel.” I nearly let it slip, but I can’t, I’m just not ready yet. I know the moment I say it, something bad will happen. I just need to keep it inside. For a bit longer anyway.
Before he has time to say anything, I start kissing him, knowing we’re running out of time and he’ll want more before he leaves.
“You have ten more minutes, and you know I want the whole ten.” It’s enough for him to be distracted about my slip with the L word, and within seconds I’ve forgotten too, because he already has me moaning with his touch.
Sexy Lexy is in the house again.
“You better hurry up or you’ll be late for court. I can be late back from lunch, but you can’t. Jacinta will just use it to score points.”
Watching him dress in his suit will never get old. It doesn’t matter what he dresses in, I love every style, but a black business suit, holy hot balls. This man is to die for. I never thought I would even look at man in a suit, let alone love him. I know I love him, deep in my bones. In a way that is as amazing as the way I love my kids but on a whole different level. It’s the feeling that you can’t describe in words. You can’t force it and you can’t even stop it when it happens. It’s that powerful and overwhelming. I can’t wait for the day I can tell him. I know it’s coming because it’s getting harder to hold it in.
“Oh, she can try, but I’ve got her right where I want her in this case. My guy is innocent, and today I intend to prove it. Because it’s about time for me to end this once and for all.” He bends down and ties up his laces on his shoes.
As he is standing up, I kneel up on the bed, still naked except for the stockings and garters, holding his tie in my hand.
“Here, let me do this.”
“Fuck, woman, how am I supposed to leave you looking like that? You’re a naughty dream but I’m able to touch you in real life.” I can see the tension in his face and the problem in his pants.
“Well, you need something to look forward to later. You just told me tonight you’ll need to celebrate.” I try to knot his tie while he’s feasting on my neck again.
“Lex, you need to stop, or you’ll be explaining more than just being late to the judge. That hard-on in your pants may give away where you’ve been.” His hand gives me a tap on my bare ass. He stands up straight again, and I fix the tie so it’s perfect.
“Tonight, you’re mine. Tell Mason his punishment for being a dick is he’s got the kids and you’re sleeping at my place. I’m done sharing you. And then tomorrow we start looking for an apartment for you. Better still, move in with me, Mia. You and the kids, come and live with me.”
No, no, no. Don’t do this, Lex. It’s too much pressure yet. I love you, but I still need slow.
“I can’t Lex, it’s too…”
“Soon, I know, I shouldn’t have said it. But you know I would love it. I’ll wait. There’s no rush. Please don’t freak out on me. Let’s talk apartment hunting tonight, okay? Your own space and the next step.”
My heart is racing on the inside, but I try to show him I’m fine when I’m freaking out just like he said.
“You better go, and I’m fine. Yes, tonight let’s talk. We can’t have any more stains on couch incidents.” I shoo him with my hands as he’s looking at me to make sure I’m telling the truth.
“Can’t wait.” He leans in and kisses me one last time. “Get dressed and good luck spending all afternoon with no panties. If I have to suffer being in court with a hard-on, then you can be thinking about me all afternoon too.” His smile is the last thing I see as he blows me a kiss, closing the door behind him.
Flopping back on the bed, my mind is racing. I know he loves the kids, but are they startin
g to become a problem for him? Is it too much to expect him to take on an instant family? I can’t just stop being a mother to become a girlfriend to Lex. I need to work out how to be both, and I’m not sure that he’s ready for the type of commitment he just asked for.
Lex’s apartment is neat and tidy. Everything in its place and not a mark on a wall, a fingerprint on the windows, or food smudged into the floor rug. I know he sees it at Paige’s place, but he still gets to go home to his ordered life and the peace and quiet of his sanctuary. With Jack and Kayla, there will never be peace and quiet for at least twenty years. Oh god, how the hell do I even work this out?
Every time I take a step over a hurdle, another pops up in front of me. I need to push this out of my head and get dressed for work. Although I told him I could be late, I never would be. Paige might be my sister, but that doesn’t mean I want to be treated any different. I’m her PA, and I need to be the same as every other employee in that company, abiding by the rules of the job.
It’ll be okay, I just need to talk to him tonight about giving me time. He’ll understand. He always does.
Getting up to head to the bathroom to freshen up, there’s a knock at the door. Grabbing the hotel robe on the chair, I know it’ll be Lex because no one else knows I’m here. Well, except for Ashton, who will be nearby somewhere. We’ve worked out our arrangement where he’s in the background but still there when I’m on my own. Until the case with Bent is complete, Lex and Mason don’t want to drop the security on Paige or me. I’ve gotten used to it now, and he has become a great friend, to both me and Lex. He keeps our secrets and I know I can trust him with anything.
“Miss me already?” I say, giggling as I open the door, only to stop breathing when I face the person who hates me most in this world.
