An Ignorant Witch

And Mom. I’m no closer to finding out what happened to her, or why, or who did it. But I know I’m going to, once I’m a fully trained witch.
The biggest thing I’ve taken out of this? I learned that power isn’t given to you from an outside source. It doesn’t come from knowing the right words to a spell, or because someone else says you have it, or even from being born under the ideal circumstances. Real power can only come from within, and I think I’ve found mine.
My fingers absentmindedly play with the paper bag still in my hoodie pocket. Zeta’s spell. I smile as I take out the sachet, lift it to my nose and breathe deeply of the oregano and cumin within the cotton. These spices won’t scare off ghosts or do anything at all except add taste to a meal. Spells and potions and all that gobbledygook? Hugh says their only power is to help you focus your thoughts and desires and intentions in order to help the real magic come through.
I open up the sachet and let the contents drift through my fingers into the water below as I think of my mother, remembering how her presence felt, sending mental feelers out into the world, where ever she might be.
Mom, I’m going to find you.
