Of course, his hair, and Kojanza's hair weren't their natural colors anymore either. They had dyed their hair black. Him to hide the red and her to make herself look different. They didn't need any awkward questions coming up.
“It’s okay, she’s like us,” Joshua said, “We’re all the same family. Just different here and there.”
Soon he would start adding onto the house again. They would need more than the one room now that their family was growing. There was so much to do, but he had a lot of time. Just figuring out the scrolls kept him busy.
He raised the baby to his lips and kissed her. She stopped crying and opened her eyes. They were a startling blue.
“Hello little one,” he said, “Welcome to world. What shall we name you?”
Across the room, Kojanza stirred. "Her name is Saven."
“Saven?” He didn’t think he was ever going to get used to the strange names on this world. But he wasn’t going to argue. “Saven it is then.”
The baby smiled and blew a bubble at him. He held her tiny form to his chest.
Grams was right.
This was a good life.
