  Prologue

Just a week ago, I was your typical girl about to celebrate her 20th birthday. Well, if you count a ‘creeper killer’ and a runner for her faction as typical.

My family and I were lucky to survive the first wave of the infection two years ago. We put up gates and barriers to keep them out. The only time someone was allowed out was to make a supply run. That’s what I used to do.

On a routine run, I made a rookie mistake and got cornered. Until three handsome strangers showed up and helped me out. I tried to mislead them, but they followed me home anyway.

I was doing my thing, when the one called Evans grabbed my hand and I felt sparks. Unsure of what that meant, we finished the rounds, and I returned home to talk to my parents.

They spun a tale that I wasn’t my father’s daughter, that he and my mother were separated at the time she got pregnant. I couldn’t believe my ears.

Then he spoke up from the shadows, my father. He claimed that he was a Fae King, and that I was his daughter. He told me I must return to his realm at once, and that Evans is my soulmate and fiancé.

Overwhelmed by the unbelievable situation, I ran to my room where I was comforted by Anton. When I took his hand, I felt the sparks with him as well. Just my luck to have two soulmates in this messed up world.

The next day, the guys and I headed out on a run, some of the neighbors were running low on goods. Before we had left, my father presented me with an amazing sword, saying it was my birthright.

Everything went as smoothly as it could until I encountered a talking creeper. This one was infected, but not all the way gone. He said one word before he walked off. “Deezy.”

After returning home, we sat down for dinner, I took Callum’s hand, and damned if there weren’t sparks again. My Fae Father told me that in his family’s history, he is the only Fae to have more than one soulmate. His late wife, and my mother.

My Fae Father and Evans freaked out when I brought up the talking creeper, and the name Deezy. They told me that we must leave right away. How was I supposed to head out and leave my family? I had just started getting to know Anton and Callum. I hadn’t even come to terms with being half Fae.

I got a pep talk from Callum, and I decided to go.

After spending two uncomfortable days being cooped up in the car, we discovered a horde of creepers headed to the fae portal. Evans ran ahead to warn them, and man he was fast.

A few hours later we finally arrived at the portal to hundreds of Fae dressed in armor. My father and I suited up to help fight and save the portal.

  ………

  ……….

  ……….

The battle ended, and I stepped through the portal holding Evans’ hand, into the Realm of the Fae.

  Chapter 1

Still holding Evans’ hand, we walk straight through the portal, and into the Fae realm.

Out of nowhere, I feel somewhat recharged, almost energized. It’s like a power surge runs through my body, or at least that is what I think it is. It feels like an appropriate name for it.

After a moment, Evans pulls me into his arms, where I bask in his warmth and the closeness of his body. Happiness wells inside me at how comfortable he is with me now. I breathe in his scent, a hint of leather mixed with the salty scent of the ocean. “Those are your Fae powers unlocking. They are gifts from your father.”

“What a strange feeling.” I say, shaking my head.

I begrudgingly pull out of his embrace, and we continue on our way to my father's castle.

Breathing this place in, it’s even more beautiful than I ever could’ve imagined. I look at all the wonder around us. The lush green foliage of ferns cover the forest floor. Exotic looking flowers, birds of paradise mixed with lilies and orchids growing wild, pops of the vibrant colors are a clear example of the good health of this realm. Everything here is thriving, living, unlike the human realm.

I am led, hand in hand, by Evans, as we continue onward passing wooden houses covered in wild morning glories, shelters for livestock, and plentiful garden. I try to take in and absorb as much of this place as is possible before we get to my father’s castle. The closer we get, I can see that it is nestled right in the mountainside, surrounded by trees of all different shades of green. Beautiful white marble pillars stand out here and there, and there are amazing windows peeking out of the side towers. More houses and a marketplace pop into view, and it seems all the Fae that are out and about, stop to stare.

Gripping my hand a little tighter, Evans points out a few places of interest and promises to bring me back tomorrow.

As we approach the castle, each step I make is the greatest agony; wielding my sword had been more physically taxing than I had anticipated. After ten minutes of what felt like eternity, my sore muscles and tired feet can attest to that, we finally arrive at the castle doors.

Standing like an idiot, I can feel my jaw hang open. I can’t believe this is my father’s home. It isn’t just a castle, it’s more of a sprawling palace. White stones are used as bricks, blue stones are used as accents. It has so many levels and windows, and from where we stand I can see a small waterfall that cascades down to a pool. It is so stunning, I can’t wait to see what awaits me inside.

The double doors seem to swing open of their own accord, as if to welcome us inside. The doors themselves are wooden, painted white. Each one has a shimmering sapphire blue rose in the middle of the stained glass windows that decorate them. Clear crystal handles polish them off.

Awaiting our arrival at the entrance is Alix, her cheeks stretch into a bright and welcoming smile. She’s the Fae I met before the battle, and she stands alongside my father at the end of a grand staircase.

"Welcome home, Liauna. It feels wonderful to finally say those words to you," Roman says, leaning slightly against the staircase.

He steps forward and wraps his arms around me in a hug. Can you say awkward? Reflecting on the fact that we both survived two hordes of creepers, I’m grateful for a moment of happiness, along with us both alive to tell the tale.

Pulling back from our embrace, he turns to Evans, “Please escort Liauna to her room. Our Princess is in need of a shower.”

I am laughing as I reply, "Thank you, Father. I am sure you could use one as well!"

“You are too right my dear. Let us
retire for the night, and we will celebrate this victory tomorrow.” Roman states.

We head towards the staircase, and Evans leads me up one flight of stairs. My focus on where we are walking to is somewhere between terrible and impossible. My eyes stray down to admire Evans' ass, and very rarely rise from their fixed focal point.

As we reach the landing, Evans leads me to the end of the hall. In front of us is a set of huge doors, adorned in diamonds and sapphires. Evans pushes the doors open easily, my jaw dropping in awe yet again. This is the most gorgeous room I’ve ever seen. I immediately notice a theme here. The entirety of the room is decorated beautifully in shades of white and blue. With white walls, the room is decorated with blue furniture. There’s an oversized plush blue armchair as well as a matching couch. Right in the center is the star of the room: a huge, wooden, ornately carved with flowers, four post bed. It is covered with a blue shimmering quilt, light reflecting off of it, it almost looks like water. Adorning the top of the bed is a canopy of the same blue material as the quilt, tied back and tucked behind the headboard.

Hmm... Anton, Evans, Callum, and I would fit in that bed nicely.

Evans raises an eyebrow at me, and all I can do is giggle. Next he takes me to the bathroom that adjoins the room. The shower is a gorgeous walk in shower with clear doors, and on the far left looks to be an inviting claw foot bathtub. Evans points out where the towels, toiletries, clothes, and other bathroom essentials are.

After taking it all in, I turn to Evans, “I’m gonna hop in the shower, alone, and get all this yuck off me. Are you staying in this room or do you have your own?”

Evans smiles, “I will go to my quarters, shower, change, and be back to tuck you in, Princess.”

He kisses me on the nose, then bowing, he exits.

  Chapter 2

Before my shower, I make my way around, to examine my new room. I find regal treasures upon the dresser, a beautiful necklace and earring set that will match what I assume is to be my tiara, perfectly.

I wandered some more, making my way into the closet. Inside I find a beautiful chest, it is a deep blue with crystal handles and has four drawers. I pull open the top drawer to find a tank top and shorts set laid out on top. I discover underwear and pajamas are laid out in the second drawer. I smile. Picking them up, I walk back to bathroom, and head to take my shower. I pass the inviting tub, a nice, hot, soaking bath would be marvelous. I don't know if I am awake enough for that.

After I finally figure out how to turn the water on, I let it run as I undress, thinking to myself, why aren’t the handles on every shower the same? No, life would be too easy, instead each shower is different and it’s annoying.

Turning around I take in the shower, again white and blue themed. The shower head is in the center of the wall, with shelves on either side, filled with a variety of different soaps.

I step through the clear door and into the stream. The hot water feels like heaven, this is just the relief my achy muscles need. Steam rolls off my skin, leaving it with a pink tint. When I go to grab some soap, there are five different types to choose from, a couple bars on one side and the rest in bottles on the other. Who needs this much soap?

Grabbing the bar closest to me, I raise it to my nose, roses. Yes, that’s a good scent. I get down to business and I start washing, working to scrub away all the blood and yuck.

We were very lucky that we didn’t have many Fae die in the battle. I can’t help but speculate that maybe if Anton and Callum had been there, we may not have had any!

Just the thought of them brings back flashes from that day in the pool. I reminisce back to my finger tracing Callum’s tattoo, the mischievous grin that crossed his lips. Anton and his strong arms wrapping around me after he threw me in, and jumped in himself. I could really use Callum’s ornery grin, along with Anton’s arms around me right about now.

Enough thinking about what ifs, they won’t change anything. I quickly finish enjoying the hot water streaming from my shower. That amazing bed is calling my name. Turning off the shower, I slip out and quickly dry off before donning the pajamas I had found earlier. I am exhausted and beyond ready for some rest. The heat and pressure from my shower helped with some of my aches, but I still hurt. I am glad Evans isn't here to see me walk to my bed like a granny.

After pulling back the covers, I slide into what is surely the most comfortable bed in existence. I don't know how I am ever going to be able to pry myself out of this bed of dreams in the morning.

Evans pokes his head through the doorway.

I giggle, “Come in! I’m decent.”

Evans continues on towards the bed, and I pull back the covers and pat the spot next to me, inviting him in. After all that has happened today, I neither need nor want guards running in if I have a nightmare.

"Please stay and snuggle with me. I don't want to cause a fuss or alarm anyone if I start to yell in my sleep. Your presence beside me seems to soothe and calm me." I tell him.

“Of course, my Princess, it will be my pleasure.” Evans replies with a smile.

As Evans lies on his back, I place my head on his shoulder and he wraps his arms around me. He kisses my forehead, and that’s all I can remember.

  Chapter 3

I startle awake to someone knocking on my door. Evans climbs out of bed to answer the door as I stretch, feeling more refreshed and relaxed than I can remember being since the infected had shown up. Pulling back the covers, I swing my legs over the side, stretching again, my arms are still sore.

Evans opens the door to reveal a female Fae. She is as beautiful as Evans is handsome, and I cannot decide whether I should be jealous or not. She is perfectly put together, long brown hair braided into a bun, wearing a simple light blue gown.

  Then she greets Evans.

  “Hello, brother.”

“Good morning, sister.” He replies, ushering her in.

  She walks up to me.

"Hello, Princess Liauna, I am Kallista, and I am here to help you dress." She informs me. "I am also Evans' sister, so if he is too much of an asshole, don't hesitate to tell me, and I will put him back in line."

I look around Kallista to face Evans, “I like her.”

Evans just rolls his eyes as Kallista chuckles.

Kallista grabs my hand, guiding me to the closet; I find a hideously puffy dress waiting for me. How I am even supposed to get this thing on is beyond me.

“Let me just hop in the changing room. I’ll be out in a few minutes.” I reply.

I take a moment to rummage through the drawers until I eventually find a slip that I immediately replace my pajamas with, thank goodness! I have just met Kallista and I don't know her well, or at all really. I don't feel comfortable having her help me dress or seeing me naked. I shrug and prepare to be uncomfortable as I head out. I immediately see her waiting in the exact same spot she was in when I had left, obviously not moving an inch.

She helps me into the dress, which is white with blue trim. The bottom is a lacy monstrosity; the top is strapless, with a sweetheart neckline and a corset. I brace myself as she laces up the corset, thinking to myself that passing out is a very real possibility, and what wouldn't I give for my tank top and shorts.

She has me sit at the vanity, pulling my hair out of the ponytail and begins to brush it. Then she proceeds to pull it back and braid it, letting my long hair lay against my back. The final touch is my tiara, which is placed lightly upon the crown of my head.

I almost pull out the ring Evans gave me a few nights before, but I don’t want to give him the wrong impression. I need to figure out what is best for the four of us. I shake that thought from my head.

Glancing in the mirror, holy crap! I look like a Princess!

Kallista's voice breaks my train of thought, "Princess, your father and Evans are waiting for you in the dining room. Breakfast is ready to be served, it would be my pleasure to guide you to them."

  “Thank you, Kallista,” I reply.

  Oh m
y, I bet I’m the talk of the kingdom. Long, lost Princess returns with three soulmates. At least one of them is my fiancée since birth, right?

Kallista looks at me strangely. I really hope there aren’t any mind reading Fae. She guides me out of my room, back the down stairs, and down a long hall until we meet two guards standing in front of blue double doors. Silently, they side step, each opening a door. They close them behind us as we enter the dining hall.

My father gives a brief, little nod of acknowledgement to Kallista and she exits through a door off to the side. Not a moment later, Evans approaches me and leads me to my seat. My designated seat at the luxurious mahogany dining table is to the left of my father, while Evans is seated at his right.

“I hope you slept well, my daughter.” Roman says. “We have a lot to discuss. We need to test your powers, make a plan to travel to the Southern Fae Realm, and find out more about Deezy and this witch. Lastly, we are having a ball tonight to honor our returned Princess.”

“Aww, Father, we don’t need a ball.” I tell him, a blush reddening my cheeks.

“I have waited almost twenty years for you to come home, if I say we celebrate, that’s what we do.” He commands.

“Yes, Father. Do I at least get a say in what I wear?” I ask him.

He chuckles, ”Princess, is this dress not to your liking?”

“It looks like lace threw up all over me,” I reply.

“Yes, I agree. I will have Kallista bring you a few dresses to choose from. First, let’s eat and talk.” He smiles as we all dig in.
