"That's why you raced out of here like ghosts were chasing you. Dinner?" Stella chided.
"Not the only reason. I had a few other things to pick up."
They all stood and stared as Maire lumbered into the room dragging two duffels. After dropping them, she moved into Ethan's open arms and kissed his cheek. "We weren't sure Ethan would play along with all his brooding. So we thought it best to wait until we had everything we needed."
AJ pulled paper containers from the bags. "Let's eat. Then we'll share what Maire and I have been up to."
Ethan could only stare at AJ. Her stoic resolve was gone. She moved with purpose, and appeared more vibrant and fierce than she had before the masquerade ball. He knew that look. She was prepared for battle.

About the Author
Kim Allred lives in an old timber town in the Pacific Northwest where she raises alpacas, llamas, and an undetermined number of free-range chickens. Just like AJ and Stella, she loves sharing stories while sipping a glass of fine wine or slurping a strong cup of brew.
Her spirit of adventure has taken her on many journeys including a ten-day dogsledding trip in northern Alaska and sleeping under the stars on the savannas of eastern Africa.
Kim can usually be found working on the farm, playing with alpaca fiber, or heads down on a new book, constantly surrounded by her fur babies and parrot.
