They’d gotten married a week after the semester ended, heading to the courthouse on the sly so they could have their moment without Mike interrupting it with his commentary. It wasn’t that they held a grudge against the man, he was one of Dylan’s best friends.

It was for the simple fact that they both knew how emotional this was for them. They’d both cried when they said their vows in front of the magistrate. No one had ever loved her as much as this sweet man and she was incredibly proud to be his wife.

Dylan had carried her over the threshold of their home just like he’d promised. He was amazing, and wouldn’t let her fall behind in her studies, while setting aside time for them to be alone, away from everyone.

  Life with him was wonderful.

They had their moments just like any other couple where they got frustrated with each other, snapped about money, or she asked him about his blood sugar one too many times. There had been only one scare for them, which pushed him even harder to maintain his levels when she’d broke down crying in concern for his health.

Their late-night discussions over hot cocoa were priceless, where she could read back her papers to him and talk about different points or perspectives. In fact, she was so proud of how he pushed her, and kept her on the right track, that she’d decorated her graduation cap as a way to show her love and thanks.

  It said simply “Luka’s Wife”.

She was not tossing her precious cap in the air when graduation was over, no – this was going in a frame beside her degree in the small bedroom that her husband had made into an office for her. Following in line, she glanced up at the crowds, searching for Dylan, and stumbled on the stairs of the stage.

Eva Morrison Luka – Bachelor of Early Childhood Education

Eva heard her name called and felt proud tears sting her eyes. She’d worked on this for so long and this moment was finally here. As she stepped forward, she heard a massive roar of applause from the crowd.

Stunned, she glanced up in shock because she never expected to hear anyone when her name was called. She figured Dylan would obey the rules or that he would get lost in the noise of the auditorium. Obviously, that wasn’t the case as several air horns began to sound off in the distance. Looking up, she saw a flashing light and met her husband’s eyes.

He was standing there proudly, flickering a pen light so she could see him.

Dylan was surrounded by what looked like half the police force, as well as their friends. They were all waving pom-poms, streamers, and holding signs. Mike and Colin were waving neon flags. Ethan shot a glitter cannon out across the crowd. It was promptly taken away by one of the officers as Ethan held his hands up in surrender immediately.

They were all there to support her – to be her family.

Hot tears ran down her face unheeded as she accepted her degree and walked across the stage. Dylan knew how important this moment was for her and how she felt about being alone. He wanted to show her how much he cared. What being together meant to him and that she was loved.
