Her Devil’s Kiss, book 8, We meet Governor Alex White and attorney Pamela Seeger.

A woman scorned is one thing … but what about a Dom?

  Governor Alex White

“You had the freedom of choice and you chose to be my sub. But you’re not free from the consequences of that decision.”

Pamela is a siren on stilettos, and Governor Alex White is torn between the formidable Domme and the memory of her as a sweet submissive. Her scent is ingrained in his soul, but he must come to terms that it’s time to move on. He won't be used anymore, and he has no intention of falling for her same sensual trap. But that’s easier said than done. Especially when she worms her way into his house and is underfoot everywhere he turns. When fate steps in and she’s forced to become his trainee sub, the devil in him stirs to life his ravenous hunger. The hunt is on as he sets out to make her the slave to his desires.

He’s in control now … or is he?

  Attorney Pamela Seeger

“No, you didn’t, but you did invite me to anything in the house I’m hungry for. And I’m very … very hungry for you … Master Rage.”

She's lived in limbo for the past four years, kept afloat by being close to the only man who has ever captured her heart and the one man she won't allow herself to have. It isn't fair to him, but that isn't her fault. If he wasn't so damn gorgeous, she might have stopped longing for what could have been long ago.

When regret and hindsight threaten to destroy her only chance at happiness, she refuses to give up. As the battle of lust and love ensues she insists on fighting for what she deserves … but is it too late?

Alex and Pamela must find the trust and resilience to survive the wave of destruction that threatens not just their happiness but their lives.

The devastation left by the Sixth Order shattered the Precision Secure team. Losing one of their best friends left them vulnerable and simultaneously awakened their wrath. Now that the mighty leaders of the syndicate have had a taste of victory, they surge forward, more determined than ever.

The real war has just begun as secret plots are revealed, traitors infiltrate enemy territory, the death toll rises, and not everyone or everything is as it seems.

  Editor's Note:

Hot damn! Some of these chapters deserve to be read twice and thrice … because you might just lose your place as you … enjoy yourself. Basset never EVER disappoints in the hot and heavy or the violence and dramatics! Total win win!

  Chapter One

March 2008 … An upscale condo in Manhattan, New York

“Don’t give me lip, you fucking bitch! I told you I wanted steak for dinner, not this …” He flung the plate of seafood pasta she’d labored the entire afternoon over onto the floor. Her wary gaze followed its path, watched unblinkingly as the plate shattered into pieces and the content sprayed against the wall.

Pamela Seeger knew what was coming. Kieran wasn’t the man she’d married four years ago. Over the past six months, he’d become abusive, derogatory, and belittled her with every opportunity he had. She swallowed down the lump that formed in her throat. Maybe if she gave up her job at Rutherford Attorney Inc., he might go back to the loving and caring man she’d married. Kieran came from a poor family and grew up on a farm in Tennessee. He’d pursued her like a bloodhound when they’d met during a va
cation she'd taken with her friend Sally to see her family on Thanksgiving. She’d been flattered by the big, handsome farmer, and it didn’t take long to fall in love with him. They were married within three months.

“Well? Don’t you have anything to say?” He cackled out a harsh laugh. “The big shot attorney without words. That must be a first!” He shoved the table back with such force it slammed against the wall. The champagne glasses fell over and went crashing to the floor, shattering in hundreds of pieces. The bottle followed. It hit the floor with a loud bang. Shards of glass arrowed through the air, slicing and cutting the soft skin of her legs.

Pamela jumped up in fright. She’d come to know the signs and knew when he would abuse her with words or at other times with his fists. This time, there was a hard glint in his eyes she’d never seen before. She’d come home early and made the seafood pasta to the exact recipe of the dish he loved to eat at their favorite restaurant—to celebrate the case she’d won that morning. It had been the biggest victory since she’d started as a junior partner at the firm and was the one that would clinch her position as a full partner.

“I hate this fucking city!” He stomped toward the large window overlooking Central Park. “I should never have agreed to move here.” He spun around and advanced on her, a wild look in his eyes. “It’s all your fault! This … this pretentious apartment to impress all your high and mighty associates … I hate it!”

The fist came out of nowhere and caught Pamela completely off guard. She fell to the floor, clutching her painful jaw.

“Kieran, baby, what is … no … ugh!”

It felt like her stomach burst open as he viciously kicked her.

“I want the outdoors around me. I want to work with my hands buried in the ground, not sit in a stupid little office counting other people’s money! You! You forced me to come and live in this shithole! You and your fucking price tags! Your need for luxury, fame, and fortune!”

Pamela had never realized the extent of Kieran’s unhappiness until that moment. It floored her as she scrambled to get out from under his boot as he aimed another kick at her helpless body.

“Stop! You made the choice, Kieran. You’re the one who said we should live here. I never … ahh!”

His hand shot out and he yanked her upright with his fingers fisted in her hair. It felt like he was tearing it from the roots. She whimpered and started to cry, for the first time, she feared for her life.

“Did I have a choice, bitch? You and your juicy cunt had me by the balls and you knew just how to play me. Well, it’s over and from now on, we’re gonna play by my rules!”

Crack! He slapped her hard across the face. Her head snapped to the side. Black dots swam in front of Pamela’s eyes.

“If I tell you something, you obey, is that clear? Don’t ever fucking test me like this again, wife! You’ll be sorry,” he sneered into her face.

“No! Please …” She fought him as he yanked her to the table and pressed her face down. “Kieran, stop!” She kicked and screamed as he tore her panties from her but there was no stopping him. A fist connected with her side, stealing her breath, followed by blows against her head that continued until she slumped under him, unconscious and unaware of the carnal pleasure he took from her body.

“I’m glad you’re awake, honey. How do you feel?”

Pamela struggled to open her eyes. Kieran’s familiar voice floated to her as if from within a tunnel. Her eyes fluttered open. He stood over her, watching her with loving eyes, a concerned expression on his face. She bore back against the pillows, trying to get as far away from him as possible.

“Don’t do that, baby. You know I didn’t mean to hurt you, but you keep pushing me and this time … you asked for it, Pamela. You know you did.”

“Ah, our lovely patient is awake. How do you feel, Mrs. Seeger?”

Pamela tried to push upright but fell back with a painful groan. It felt like she’d been run over by a train.

“Relax, missy, you’re quite battered and have a couple of broken ribs as well.” The friendly gray-haired doctor took her wrist and checked her pulse.

“I’ve warned her numerous times about those spikes she wears and that it’s going to end up in a disaster. I’ve never been as frightened as when I watched her ankle twist and she came tumbling down the stairs.”

Pamela felt the tears roll over her cheeks. He had already paved his way to absolving himself of any guilt. First, blaming her and now with the cock and bull story the world would believe. She’d come to realize before this that Kieran was a sick man and had decided she’d do her best to help him get better. But that had been a fool’s dream. It had only gotten worse. So much so that he abused her because he had come to enjoy it. Her love for him had died a little with every word, every strike until there was nothing left.

This time had been the worst. She waited until the doctor left before she spoke in a soft croaky voice.

“This was the last time, Kieran. No, shut up. Now, you listen. Lift your hands to me one more time and I will have you locked up.” Her eyes turned glacial. “You know my reputation in the courtroom. I’ll have you behind bars for a very long time.”

He looked shocked and took back a step, his face suddenly pale.

“You’ll never do that. I’m your husband. It’s my right to show you the error of your ways.”

“No, it’s not. We don’t live in the medieval era anymore. A marriage is a partnership and I am my own person. I make my own decisions, and yes, you hate it in the city but that had been your decision. If you want to leave and go back to Tennessee, I won’t stop you, but this …” she pointed to herself, “stops now. I swear to god, Kieran, hit me again and you’ll never see the outside of a jail.”

“I … you can’t chase me away, Pamela. I love you and I can’t live without you.”

Pamela had secretly hoped he’d take her up on the offer and leave. She resigned herself to the fact that she’d made a mistake to marry him, an even bigger one to believe he’d be happy in the city. She couldn’t give up her career. It had been her dream to own a law firm since she’d been a little girl. She’d barely started to make name for herself and there was a long road ahead till her dream would become a reality. Living on a farm that barely made ends meet wasn’t an option and they would never survive on his wage as a Claims Advisor at City Bank either. She would have to bite the bullet and pray he would take heed to her warning. It went against her upbringing and beliefs to divorce him. The only thing that threatened to break her completely was that she had to accept she’d never have children. She refused to bring a child into an already abusive relationship.

“I’m not chasing you away, Kieran, but you’ve been warned.”

  Present Day … January 2019

Pamela Seeger shook off the memories as she walked into Club Devil’s Cove. Her stiletto heels clicked against the wooden floor, her hips swaying gently as she crossed the wide-open space toward the Entertainment Room. As usual, she wore one of the tight leather outfits she’d become known for. It fit her like a glove while it felt as if she was naked at the same time. It usually made her feel sexy. Tonight, it felt like she was being strangled by the straining corset and hot pants.

  “Good evening, Mistress Pam.”

She didn’t react to the somber greeting of the attending sub staffing the reception desk. Everyone at the club was devastated by what had happened on Max and Ethan’s wedding day. It had been four weeks, and to date, they couldn’t find any signs of Jack Blackmore’s remains. She shuddered at the memory. Her hand brushed self-consciously over her shortened shoulder length hair. It still felt coarse and dry. She’d been forced to cut off the charred ends after she’d tried to get to Alex, who had also been caught in the explosion.

Alex White, the Governor of Maryland, and the man who she’d been trying to lock out of her heart for the past five years. Watching the explosion just after he’d walked into Jack’s house had been the most frightening experience of her life
worse than the day four years ago when she’d been told that Kieran, her husband of a total of eleven years at the time, had committed suicide. She blinked away the tears that burned behind her eyes. It had been touch and go. Alex had been flung back from the force of the explosion and suffered from internal bleeding and severe burns. She hounded Rhone every day for a progress report on his condition, but to date, she hadn’t had the courage to go and visit him.

Pamela knew that if she had to see him, hurt and suffering, she might lose the control she had over her emotions and admit to something she’d kept hidden all this time.

  “Master Wade, Tequila please.”

If the Club Manager was surprised by Pamela’s order, he didn’t show it. Everyone knew she never drank when at the club. Tonight, she needed some added Dutch courage to play the role as a formidable Domme that she’d perfected since Kieran’s death.

Her eyes wandered over the Entertainment Room. It was packed, as was the norm on a Saturday night. Alex had been right; she did blame herself, and him, for Kieran’s death. They had believed their relationship at the BDSM club had gone unnoticed. They had been so careful but someone had seen them together and ratted them out to Kieran. His ego couldn’t stand the rejection. Pamela’s lips thinned. Everyone had known the entire sordid tale, and at the funeral, she’d been the object of the entire congregation’s scorn.

“Yeah, except I know he committed suicide knowing it would break Alex and I apart. Even from his grave, he manipulated me, knowing I’d be buried under the guilt,” she said sotto voce.

Their marriage had been a front of happiness to the rest of the world. Behind doors, it had been a different story. After the ultimatum she’d given him, it had just gone downhill. He’d stopped the physical abuse after the incident in 2008 but had perfected emotionally cutting her to the core over the years thereafter. His death had been a blessing.
