A black puddle extended from under the closet door. The tang of blood hit my nose and churned my stomach. My heart hammered so hard, my eyeballs pulsed with it.
No. It couldn't be.
I laid my hand on the knob. There was no such thing as monsters.
A pair of big, black boots tumbled out and splashed as I opened the closet. Blood coated the door, clothes, and wall. Not black, but red. Red as the Santa hat caught on a hanger next to the torn cuff of Devon's holiday pajamas.
In the living room, Melissa screamed.
