“Yeah, if you say so boss. Anyway, I got stuff. I’ll yell if I need anything.”
“Okay Jimmy and I don’t know if Tommy ever tells you this, but thanks. You’re a great asset to our family.” Trent walked to the office in the restaurant and hung up his coat. He then sat down at his brother’s desk and smiled. He was pleased to see that there was a large framed photo from his wedding on his desk, which showed him kissing his wife. His wife, Ally could have been a model and Trent still couldn’t figure out just how a slob like Tommy managed to score such a wonderful woman. He then picked up the photo next to it. It was of all of them on New Years’ Eve. They decided it would be the perfect time to have the ribbon cutting ceremony at their new business and the local paper had covered the event. Tommy was in the center smiling next to their grandfather and father. Trent stood at the side. He looked serious as always and didn’t share the same enthusiasm for the place his family did. Sure he loved being part-owner, but to him it was just another business to manage. It was books and numbers. He didn’t have the personal connection to it. He found himself suddenly saddened by the fact he probably never would. He wanted something of his own, but he still didn’t have a clue as to what. He had some ideas he would bounce through his mind, but he was good at the part of the job where he could get his hands dirty. If he was a fry cook there he’d probably be happier than he was as part-owner.
He was shaken from his thoughts when the phone rang back in the office. “Hello? Oh I see… Yeah. That’s fine. Give me like five minutes to pull out the paperwork. Okay. Thanks Jimmy.” Trent raffled through some paperwork in Tommy’s top drawer and pulled out a manila file folder that had a job application in it. It appeared that he’d be interviewing Rachelle. She was single and a college student from the upper East end. She’d had prior waitressing experience and listed her skills as being ‘comparable to any standard customer service job.’ He smiled at that. At least she didn’t pad her application with false statements. She seemed to be to the point as well. He certainly hoped so.
Rachelle walked in and opened the door a crack before softly saying, “Hello? Are you Tommy?”
“Hi…um. No, I’m not, but you’re in the right place, trust me. I’m Tommy’s brother Trent. I’m part-owner here, so come on in and have a seat. I’m filling in for Tommy today. It seems as if he’s come down with the flu or something.” He suddenly felt antsy sitting at the desk like he was too big for the office chair. He stood up and politely pulled out a seat in front of the desk for Rachelle. “I’m sorry, I forgot my manners. It’s nice to meet you Rachelle.” He then sat back down at the desk and looked at the young woman earnestly. She looked dependable but still had the exuberance of youth on her side. She sat with her shoulders back and her long, dark hair curling over her shoulders. Her outfit was professional and modest. She wore a taupe blouse and a pencil skirt. Without his own permission, his eyes roamed over her long legs when she crossed them in front of him. It was a movement that she didn’t exactly want to be sexual, but Trent couldn’t help but feel himself get hot at the sight.
“Okay, I’ll be frank with you, I’m not really the boss… I mean, I am but I’m not. I’m just here filling in for my brother today, Tommy’s down with the flu, so you’ve got the honor of putting up with me. I’m Trenton. Call me Trent I won’t get offended. “
“It’s nice to meet you Trent.”
“So you’re applying to be up front and help out with hosting duties, right?”
“Yes.”
“Okay, well, um do you have any experience?”
Rachelle twirled her hair through her hands letting the ends slip between her fingers. She thought for a few more moments before responding, “Well, I’ve waitressed a little bit, but I’ve never been a hostess before.”
“Okay, well that’s good. We pride ourselves here for having a good relationship with our clients and most of our customers are regulars. How good are your customer service skills on a scale of one to ten?”
“I’d have to say at least a seven if we’re talking about a scale. There’s always some assholes that no one can please. Just people who have given up on life and have a chip on their shoulder. There’s no helping people like that.”
“Hmm. I see. Well I appreciate your honesty. Between me and you, I’d have to say Rachelle that I agree with you. No you can’t please everyone There’s always gotta be that one asshole that would come along and ruin your day. If you encountered an asshole like that I think it’s important to know that you can always come to either myself in the rare event I’m here, or Tommy for help okay?”
“Yeah, I understand.”
“We’re literally family here and we want our employees to know that we want to treat them like family too. It’s really important because our business… well I’m sure you’ll find out when you’re hired that it’s a bit different than anything you’d expect.”
“Oh yeah? How so?”
“Well now if I just sat here and told you you wouldn’t have anything to come back for the second day to find out now would you?”
“Haha well you are tricky aren’t you Trent?”
“I can be. I can be both stoic and mischievous when warranted.”
“Hmm. I’ll keep that in mind.”
“So Rachelle, when do you think you could start if we hire you?”
“I could start whenever you’d like. I was going to pursue cosmetology classes, but thought against it. I’m not going at least for a while. It seems like it’s a rough year to find clients. All of my friends I know who had went through with them before either lost good paying clients this year or just didn’t get any at all.”
“So you’re just looking for something to pay the bills?”
“Yeah I’m wanting something to pay the bills and fill my evenings. A long time ago I thought not having a job would be a nice break. I was wrong. All it turned out to be was aggravating because of not having money and I really don’t have anything to do in the evenings.”
“I see. So you’re stir crazy now.”
“Yeah I guess that’s it I don’t know. I mean, I have a cat, but he doesn’t say much at night, ya know?”
“Hah. Hmm. Clever. Yeah I understand your point. So you’re not married? Do you have any angry exes we need to know about? Anything like that?”
“No, not at all. In fact, my ex and I are pretty good friends actually. I told him I was going to try working again and he was happy for me, he said that was good to do so I’d have my own money.”
“Hmm. I see. Well okay, let me just go take a phone call really quick and I’ll see if I can get your paperwork taken care of. I just gotta run this by my brother, sit here and I’ll be back.” Trent walked outside the office into the hallway and pulled out his cell phone. When Tommy answered he was in the middle of a coughing fit. “Eww. You keep that to yourself, Tommy. What’s the doc say?”
“Eh…he just said I caught a chill and did get the flu bug sometime probably last week. So I’m down for the next couple of days. Are you calling with good news, Trent?”
“Yeah, I think so at least. I think the girl’s gonna be a good fit she seems dependable and trustworthy. She also doesn’t seem to have anyone around that would cause us issues. So you want me to go ahead and do the paperwork?”
“Yeah. If you don’t mind go ahead and start it for me. Have her come back in three days from now. Then I should be there to finish it up and get her training started. I’ll also brief her on the after-hours business as well. Does she have anything pressing that she would need to leave early for?”
“Said she’s got a cat. That’s it.”
“That works. I’ll talk to ya later Tommy I gotta lay down. Thanks a million, you’re a lifesaver.”
“Remember that when I need my car fixed or something.”
“Haha! You never were the mechanic in the family, but you’ve got it.” Trent hung up the phone and walked back in the office to find Rachelle on her phone. He stole a glance over her shoulder an
d found her not texting or on social media, but she was actually looking at her calendar. “Okay, well everything’s good to go. I’m pleased to say you’re hired. I just have to get you to fill out some forms for me really quickly. It’s just the basic tax forms.” Trenton hit a few buttons on the computer and quickly printed the paperwork.
The pair sat in silence for a few moments while Rachelle worked to fill in all the required blanks. She then handed them back to him and he filed the information in Tommy’s top drawer. Tommy would handle putting everything in their payroll system when he returned. Trenton was completely capable of doing so, but he always felt better when Tommy handled the actual legal and human resources side of the business. “Okay, Rachelle you’re all set. Tommy wants you to come back three days from now. He says when he gets back he’ll finish up your paperwork and get your training started and probably go ahead and put you on the schedule then. My suggestion is go home and enjoy your time off before you start because I don’t know when your next day off will be.”
Trent then extended his hand to her and said, “Congratulations. I hope you like working with me and my family. It’s great to have you on staff and the extra help is going to be amazing.”
Rachelle smiled demurely back at him, but there was suddenly a twinkle in her eyes. “I have a better idea.”
“What’s that?”
“Come out with me. Tonight.”
“What? Did you just ask your new boss out on a date?”
“Kinda. Come on, we’ll go now if it’s convenient. I feel like celebrating… I mean, I just got a new job, so let’s go have a drink to celebrate. Just me and you.”
“Wow, um… well I guess it is after lunch now. How about I take you to lunch and we’ll grab a drink afterwards. I don’t know what you’re in the mood for, but I know a great little sushi place on the East side. I don’t know if you eat that or not, but if you do, they make a California Roll that you’ll be dreaming about for months.”
“Hmm… well yeah, I like sushi. Yeah, let’s give it a try.”
Rachelle and Trent exited the restaurant together and Trent nodded at the host on the way out. He gave Trent a sly, almost knowing smile. Trent though not much of a ladies’ man did sometimes catch himself finding the opportunity to date different women at the same time. Apparently that had given him a reputation. “Hey, Rachelle do you want to ride with me to the restaurant? I mean you can leave your car, or if you’d like I can call you a cab to have him pick you up and bring you back.”
“Wow. Now that is very chivalrous of you. I thought that trend died when guys stopped opening doors for women.”
“Oh no are we not doing that now. Fuck. I’ve already messed up then haven’t I? I pulled out your chair for you today… I apologize if I made you feel as if I was commenting on your inferiority.”
“Haha! Well I accept your faux apology if you accept my faux righteous indignation.”
“I do. Now let me open your door for you, beautiful lady.” Trent flashed her a smile and took her hand in his own as she slid into his passenger seat. He drove a luxury sedan while had ample room for his long legs and was careful to keep it clean. He loved the smell and feel of the leather seats and found that when company was around it was important to keep up the image of a successful businessman. “Wow, you certainly are a neat freak aren’t you Trent?”
“Nah. This is just for business purposes. You should see my apartment. I can assure you that it’s nothing as glamourous as this.”
Rachelle giggled at his candor and allowed him to drive several blocks away to a small sushi restaurant. It was on the border of an up and coming section of town, so there were several small businesses on the street which were starting to gain popularity. The sushi place was one of them and since Trent started going there, business had almost doubled. He was glad to see the owner doing a good job. He’d met the man on several occasions and in their business dealings, he was fair. He also did express an interest in perhaps getting into the drug trade behind the scenes as well, especially if the gentrification of the neighborhood continued.
They walked in and found the place almost empty though the phone was ringing with call in orders. Trenton walked up to the host and requested a table for two and the host smiled at him and gave him a slight wink. He led Trent and Rachelle to a table in the back next to the kitchen and without a word he sat a candle down on the table in the middle of them for a centerpiece and brought out two glasses, filling them both with what appeared to be red wine. “Wow. Do they know something I don’t Trent?”
“Hah! Honestly I don’t know. They didn’t know we were coming I swear it. I haven’t been here or seen the owner for quite a while now. I think they just went ahead and assumed that we were dating.” To Trent’s shock, Rachelle took a long drink from her wine glass and cocked an eyebrow at him. To his shock he felt her foot under the table, suddenly slip up his pants leg partially. She then said in a voice that was almost a whisper, “I think we both want their assumptions to be correct.”
It didn’t take long for Rachelle to end up at Trent’s apartment. He didn’t consider himself an attractive man, but the ladies never complained about his features. She pressed her lips to his mouth in a heated kiss as he fumbled in his pants pocket for his keys. She ran her hands through his hair desperately and they both wanted nothing more than to be inside with each other. As he unlocked the apartment door and partially carried her inside, he quickly shut it behind him throwing his keys on the counter. “Does this count as sleeping my way to the top?”
“Mmm. I think it does and I don’t care. You’re beautiful, you know that Rachelle?” Before she had a chance to answer he pressed his lips to her mouth again and the heat rose between them once more. Trent wasted no time as he led her to his bedroom and shut the door. She threw her purse on the ground and made an easy effort to take her hair down, letting it flow freely down her back. “Hey…are you okay with this, Rach?”
“I don’t think I’ve ever been more sure of anything in my life.” That was the only answer that Trent needed. He helped her off with her jacket and she let it fall to the floor beside her purse. As he wrapped his arms around her she felt a surge of wetness between her legs and her heart beat faster in her chest. Ever since she saw him in the office chair, she imagined herself straddling his powerful thighs. Trent looked at her as he pulled off her shirt and let it fall to the ground. Her skin was smooth and unblemished and she could have been a model if she ever felt the need to pursue such a career. He began kissing the sides of her neck and he felt her knees buckle slightly under the weight of her arousal. Goosebumps appeared on her skin and he knew that she was enjoying every moment of his attention. That fact only served to make him rock hard. He struggled to hide his erection. Despite the fact that he wanted her to feel his hardness, he also wanted to make certain he could maintain it until she got off. He was an excellent lover, but he did like to take it to the edge. He was a merciless tease and found that by holding off on his own orgasm it was more powerful in the end. Rachelle pulled herself closer into him and he lightly tickled her shoulders with his fingertips as he ran his hands down her body, removing her bra quickly and tossing it aside. She had already opened the buttons on his shirt so in a deft moment, he quickly flung it off revealing his sculpted chest and abdominal muscles underneath. Her breath hitched and he backed Rachelle to the bed.
Laying the woman down gently he continued using his mouth to caress any portion of skin he could find before deftly moving her panties. She was hot. Everywhere. He smiled into her mouth and whispered into her ear, “You ready?”
“Bring it tough guy.”
“Your wish, my command and blah blah blah.” Trent then began to work his mouth further down her body until he reached her breasts. He paused and took one of her nipples in his mouth, lightly sucking and biting it causing Rachelle to buck her hips below him and moan slightly. He chuckled under his breath at her reaction and felt himself growing hard to the point where he could barely
contain himself. He quickly unzipped his pants and freed his member. Rachelle looked up at up and arched her eyebrows. She smiled with apparent approval. “Well, I was wondering when you were finally going to give in and unleash the beast.”
“Next time remind me I need to blindfold you. You’re too perceptive.”
“Hah! What makes you think there will be a next time?”
“Oh trust me you’ll beg for it again.” Before she could make another comment, he gently parted her folds with his hands, feeling the wetness that lay between her thighs. He carefully explored her, making certain to take time and circle her clitoris with his thumb as she bit her lip and lifted her hips to him. She gasped and relaxed into the pleasure and he was rewarded with the scent of her arousal spreading across his sheets. Seeing her naked and writhing below him there was little more he needed to keep his erection. He inserted himself into her quickly, filling her with his engorged cock. She gasped and moaned. He then paused to ensure she was ready to continue giving her time to adjust to his girth. He then bucked his hips into her and she met him with hers. It didn’t’ take long for both of them to develop a rhythm, both sweating as they met each other’s thrusts with vigor and gusto. Trent felt himself tighten to the point of not being able to contain his excitement any longer and she needed up at him. He could tell by her tightened muscles contracting around him that she was ready to come at any moment. She rolled her head back and closed her eyes. Trent in a few last powerful thrusts, spilled into her just as she had found the peak of her own orgasm.
Rachelle and Trent were hot and heavy for a few months before the inevitable happened. It was his experience with women that their interest in him waned after only a few months. He was boring to her despite his family and their lineage. As Trent drifted off to sleep in the mansion he thought of Rachelle and wondered just where he’d went wrong with her. He also wished for a just a short while that he wasn’t so predictable or even so as Rachelle put it, ‘bland.’
