I take to the skies and was struck again but this time I managed to regain control and stay in the air, the mountain was literally crumbling, it was literally falling apart and around me were these glowing red lights that I soon realized were enemy ships.
I got into action and turned back to her, yelling "Get in a chair and strap down!" before I began to swivel the craft and take to the skies.
I tried to dodge their fire but they had already stuck my boosters so I immediately took off in whatever direction that I could, flying as fast as I could while they gave chase. There were more and more of the crafts that were breaking off so I merely tried to evade them, there was no way that I could take them like this, there was no way that I would even dare to challenge them in this sort of scenarios so I merely turned the craft in the air and fired off whatever shots that I could from the back. I had used the flares in an attempt to get them off my trail but they were still there and stars they weren't stopping.
"Are we going to be okay? Do you need me to do anything?" asked Sarah and I shook my hand.
"NO!" I called out as I turned the ship.
How could they have snuck up on us without me sensing it? How could they have even found me this way? Was it due to some sort of tracker that they had slipped on me without me knowing? I swear that my ship would have detected it or my suit would have detected it. So how the hell did they know my location? Unless my ship wasn't accustomed to human tech entirely enough to detect it...that was a possibility.
I would have to check later, for now, I simply had to dodge, I simply had to avoid them.
I continued to fly until the mountain ranges passed and the trees began to fade, giving way to smaller hills and rock formations. I rushed the ship once again to avoid more fire that was after me but I eventually decide to lose them in the canyons. I dipped into the rock formations and began to fly amongst the valleys, my boosters were firing on all cylinders and I was trying to get away, I was trying to break free from them. I could still hear their guns going off, the dust clouds that were behind me were evidence of that.
But those dust clouds might be just what I needed.
I shift my ship closer to the ground and get closer towards the hills as I fired off more shots that batter the rocks and send massive plumes of dust upwards. I grimaced as I weaved through the hills and eventually came out near the grasslands. We had flown over a quarter of the planet and had arrived near the oceans. The waters battered the rocks and the grasslands beneath me as I continued to cruise. From here I could see them, I shifted my ship into the highest speed that it could travel and launched forward, traveling as fast as I could until we reached the shores of the second continent here.
A drier continent, dotted with some trees with no mountains to speak of and certainly no marshland.
"We're safe now?" She asked me in a worried tone and I nodded.
"Yes we're safe." I sighed as we set down gently on the grass, the boosters were already severely strained and damaged, the most I could manage at the moment would be some low level cruising. Flying into space on interplanetary cruises was not an option at the moment.
We land gently and I immediately run a deep scan on the ship and my suit. I couldn't detect anything out of the ordinary so I showed it to Sarah who said that she would take a look at it. I make sure to translate the readings into English so that she would have an idea of what she was dealing with, she didn't have any idea of what it was, that is until a short while later when her eyes were appraising the graph again. I was too busy monitoring what had happened to the ship but she had found something rather strange, this anomaly in the readings.
She found it and told the chip to trace it back and sure enough, there was something stuck in the cracks of my armor, it was a small tracking device, almost minute in size. They must have slipped it into me as I was raiding their bases, that was the only explanation that I had at least. I glanced at my suit and fried the small chip before sighing.
I really needed to upgrade my security systems. It made sense that it had gotten past me considering the fact that it was a rather small chip and that human technology wasn't easily detected due to how different it was from all the other species' tech but still...I should have known.
I walked out of the ship and immediately began to stomp on the ground, frowning while my boots clash against the soft grass below. My head shakes and I sighed before I examine the ship a bit more thoroughly. There was no way that we were going to be able to get out of here like this, the boosters were heavily damaged and I would need to find some minerals in order to repair them.
Not to mention the fact that Karo likely has his men out in full force now, I won't be able to return and cleanly get in.
My hands tensed around the hull and she steps out, her gaze locked with mine and all I could do was merely glance her over despondently. I thought that we were actually going to get something done, that we were actually going to be able to accomplish something.
"Hey." She remarked and set her hand on my shoulder, "It's not your fault."
"I led them there. I could have gotten you killed."
"And I'm still here aren't I?" she asked me in a light voice while I merely nodded slowly, "We're still here and there's a chance that we might even make it out of here in one piece...There's a chance that we might be able to survive all of this and come out on top."
"How?"
She smiles, "Remember the clues? The disks? We still have them, don't we? All that talk about there being a piece of the thing that lurks in the highest points of a land...Well look around you." she remarked and pointed at the trees in the distance of the plain and my eyes widened.
Did the Berians really hide the Yukri here? Did they do that? It was possible that searchers had been led to believe that the true fragment laid in the lands with far more swamps and marshes rather than the grasslands.
"So what do you want to do about the ship? We can go searching for minerals and find this thing at the same time." She remarked and I grinned
It was a position that I couldn't pass up. The mountains back on the other side bore no fruit in terms of the Yukri so maybe this
would be a bit different. Maybe we could actually find something on this side, it was a possibility that I was willing to humor.
"Alright." I remarked, "Let's go." I stated.
Chapter Twelve
Sarah
We walked for days on end, he had left a beacon on the ship so that he could backtrack if we needed to, but now we were in the fields, on rolling hills searching for this artifact that he somehow detected, he could feel it somehow, perhaps it was just a Delosian thing but somehow his senses were enabling him to seek out this one little gem.
And I believed him, I believed him wholeheartedly when he had told me. I could remember the hints, how the gem had lurked in the light, how it aligned with all the stars in the night sky.
And I understood what it meant, we were searching the hills for any sign of the gem, hell we even thought about searching the distant mountains but he had told me that it wasn't there, the scans that we had run using the signatures of the disks kept on coming up short when we used the mountains as a reference point.
There was nowhere to go but forward
There were a few trees here but they never really gave us any hints as to where it could be. They never actually contained the gem so we merely continued onwards for a while on hill after hill, there would be the small town here and there that would be totally detached from the battles occurring on the other side of Nomida and we would stop by occasionally for food, supplies, clues, the latter really angered people though
"Don't bring that up." Spoke the barkeep after we had asked him, "Nomida already has enough trouble on the other side as is, we don't need more."
Fair enough I suppose.
"How long has it been since we had started?" I asked him while sitting on the bed beside him, my hands rest on his chest and my fingers were rolling over his muscles as he grunted and merely laid his head back.
"I don't understand your human units, likely a few geras." He remarked and I frowned.
"Yeah...maybe." I stated, by my estimate, it's been about three weeks since we had started.
And each day the result was the same, mere disappointment.
I leaned against the window sill, the bulbous shapes of the buildings here giving it this unusual curve that was quite charming The wind was light today and the entire world seemed to be still...In contrast with the other side of the planet this side was far more controlled, far more peaceful, humans still lived on this side but the culture just seemed so removed...
This entire search that was going on was far more troublesome than anyone could have thought that it would have been.

What the hell does that mean?

There had been several other hints that had been included as well, how the light of the gem would match the waters of the oceans. How the secret to where this artifact laid was inside of the disks themselves.
And each time we were closer, hell the signals that the disks gave us had told us that this gem was somewhere in this general area but the problem was that the general area was almost a 100 square miles of plains, hills, and trees.
The clues were incredibly vague for a reason.
"Wait ...do you see that?" he asked me while my back was turned to the window, he was holding me still and my eyes widened in hope as I split from him and glanced up at his face that seems to be practically glowing with excitement.
"What is..." I began before turning.
In the distance, if you look closely enough there was something. A star that seems to be out of line on one of the massive trees that were absolutely tiny from this distance. We hadn't searched that tree quite yet and the light was rather faint but...from this distance it was apparent, only at night could we see it in all of its glory. We were going there tomorrow but I don't' know that if we had searched in the light of day that we would have been able to find it.
But now this...this was a welcome change.

The light was shining, it was glowing with an immense degree of radiance. The white light was clashing against my face, it was this white rock that was cold to the touch but radiant nonetheless.
I hold onto it after he had made sure that it wasn't radioactive or anything like that and I immediately began to cry. The tears run down my cheeks in joy as I fall onto my side, this one thing had been the source of so much suffering, to have been the source of all the pain in our lives and for a moment I wondered if I should have been angry that it was here in my hand, that it was because of this stupid little thing that the world had been turned asunder, that they rend the land with the laser bolts and their ships.
And slowly I began to realize that it didn't matter, it was here for me now and it was all because of the man standing beside me.
