I leaned closer to him. Our mouths nearly touching, I lifted my gaze to find his. “I trust you,” I repeated softly.

Then his lips brushed against mine, and I closed my eyes and let the sweet sensation take me when he slipped his tongue inside my mouth. He tasted like orange soda. Sugary and tangy at the same time.

I was ready for this. I’d denied it since I’d set eyes on him, knowing he was a wolf shifter. But like he said, I knew he wasn’t the bad one. I couldn’t deny the desire any longer as my hand slid around to his neck as his fingers splayed into my hair, gently tugging and pulling me into him. I let all thoughts of car bombs, and all the other harmful things surrounding my life disappear from my mind. Right now, there was only Milo.

He picked up the remote for the TV and switched it to off. Now there was only the two of us in the glow of the candlelight. His chest heaving, he shoved the table and the remnants of food away and drew me down on top of him as he lay his large frame on the floor. When his lips found mine again, his kiss became more intense. Not wanting the sweet bliss to end, I struggled with the buttons on his shirt while our tongues mingled.

“Wait.” He stopped kissing me. “Let me help.” I sat up, my legs straddling his hips as his fingers fiddled with one of the buttons. I went to work on the others and quickly finished unfastening his shirt, almost ripping the buttons off in my haste. He let out a breathy laugh, tugging my blouse up and over my head, then shrugging out of his own shirt. I hadn’t worn a bra. I hated them, and quite frankly, I was lucky because my breasts were firm and didn’t require any extra support—possibly another trait from my father’s blood.

His eyes smoldered with desire as he stared at my naked breasts. I loved the way he gazed at me. No one had ever looked at me that way before.

Without warning, he’d slipped me off of him and placed me gently down on the floor as he positioned himself above me.

I let out a gasp when he leaned down and his tongue found my erect and ready nipple.

He sucked at each one in turn. “You taste divine. Like heaven. If heaven has a flavor, it would be you.”

I laughed, dizzy with the pleasure he was giving me. “The Greek gods called it ambrosia.”

“Then that’s what you are. All of you.” He ran his tongue along my stomach, stopped at the top of my sweat pants, and then stuck his fingers into the elastic waistband. “These need to go.”

Without another moment’s hesitation, he pulled my yoga pants down and tossed them out of the way, doing the same with his jeans. All I could do was stare at his massive erection as he sat on his knees beside me. He glanced down at himself and smiled. “He looks scarier than he really is.”

I let out a nervous laugh.

“But he also tends to have a mind of his own.”

“Oh yeah? And what would be on his mind?” I laughed.

  “I think you can guess.”

“All I can say is, I hope you and he have the same intentions.”

“Don’t worry. We think alike.” He repositioned himself above me, staring at me with those intense dark eyes of his. “We have a problem, though.”

I frowned. “What kind of problem?”

  “I don’t have any condoms.”

I ran my tongue over my dry lips. They wanted so much to be pressed against his again. “I’m on the pill. And …” I looked him in the eyes, wanting him to know I was giving myself to him. Every part of me. With no inhibitions or barriers. “I trust you.”

“I was hoping you’d say that. And I promise you can trust me as I trust you. Completely.” Then he gave me a sexy grin. “I doubt one condom would be sufficient anyway. Because I plan to do this at least ten more times tonight.”

  “You’re very ambitious.”

“Baby, you haven’t seen anything yet.” He kissed me as his fingers found my lady parts and slipped inside of me, his thumb circling my clit. Then he whispered against my ear, “I’ve barely touched you, and you’re already so wet for me.”

“I can’t help it,” I huffed out in a pant.

“I love it. It’s more than flattering.”

I whimpered when the tip of his penis found my entrance, and he slid it back and forth over my wetness, over my clit. When his lips pressed down on mine again, I moaned into his mouth as he deepened the kiss, and his erection slid slowly into me. My body involuntarily arched into him, taking the pleasure he gave as my desire for him grew stronger, and I wrapped my legs around both of his.

“Are you okay?” His breathy question surprised me.

“I’m more than okay.” The sound of my lustful voice was almost foreign to me as the desire for him roared inside of me.

When he pumped in faster, I cried out as he took me into ecstasy.

“Milo, my God, Milo.” Our gazes met and held as I jerked my hips closer to him, wanting him to know how much I desired him.

  Then he suddenly stopped.

  MILO

It had been a while since I had sex. Even though it’s been a long time, I was well aware of what other women were like, and the way they reacted to me and me to them. But none of them could compare to the way Skye and I responded to each other. I didn’t want it to end, but if I kept up the pace like this, I was sure to climax any minute.

  “Let’s try another position.”

I gently pulled her close, wrapping my arms around her. I rolled so that I was underneath her, her gorgeous, slim legs straddling me. She looked down at me with lust in her blue eyes, her black hair flowing over her shoulders. Her tongue slipped out to moisten her red lips, and I skimmed my finger down her cheek that was as pale and soft as … Snow White, I thought again, like the other night in the bar. I thanked my lucky stars that I had the balls to approach her then. I placed my hands under her hips, raising her up to bring her back down over me as her wetness coated my erection.

When she pulled her hair to the side and away from her face, revealing the soft skin of her throat, my wolf wanted to bite her, to claim her. I had to squash the urge that was building inside me. Too soon. Too soon.

Even though I knew it was too soon, I also knew that Skye was it for me. She was the one. My one true love. Because, hell, nothing could ever top how she made me feel so damn magnificent. The way she talked, with that sexy drawl when she didn’t think I’d notice. The way she always seemed to have a solution for everything, like brandy and tea. Who knew? Even when she was trying so hard to stick to her guns about not being with a wolf and trying so hard not to let me kiss her. I knew then that she was the one. And I could never, ever get enough of staring into those sky-blue eyes of hers. The way she looked at me now, well, I was king of the world.

She leaned down and pressed her lips against mine. A kiss sweeter than honey. And way more intense as I pumped into her while she slid back and forth, making the whole damn experience ever so explosive. She was moaning heavily, and the thought of claiming her as my lover, my mate, made my head swirl with pleasure and I took her hands in mine, interlacing our fingers. We rocked to our own special beat in the gilded, shimmering glow of candlelight as our orgasms exploded together.

She collapsed on top of me, her panting matching mine. The long strands of her black hair tickled my abdomen. I ran my fingers through the curls.

We both lay sprawled, naked on the floor, sated and spent. Skye’s head rested on my chest.

“I love making love to you.” My voice was still a bit breathy. I wondered if she understood the insinuation.

She raised her head, and her gaze met mine, but she didn’t say anything.

“That’s what we did, Skye. We made love. I won’t have it any other way.”

A gorgeous smile graced her face. “Neither would I.”

She pressed her lips over my heart before laying her head back down on my chest. “You have a good heart, Milo. A very good heart.”

“You’re special to me.” I ran my thumb over her bottom lip and kissed the top of her head.

  She let out a sa
ted breath of air, and I was the happiest man alive, and I knew I would always guard her. Always want to protect her.

I squeezed her tight against me with my arm comfortably wrapped around her. When I heard a grunt, and then a thump come from outside, I quickly sat up.

“What’s wrong?” She sat up, too.

  “I heard something.”

  “I didn’t hear anything.”

“Trust me. I’m wolf and have exceptional hearing.” I got up, tugging my pants on. “Get dressed.”

Without hesitation, she quickly stood up and pulled her pants on, then her shirt. “What do you think it was?”

“I’m not sure.” I went to the door. “Stay here. I’m going out to check.”

  “Please be careful.”

“Don’t worry. I will. Lock this door and don’t open it for anyone, unless it’s me.” I knew she could teleport herself out of a bad situation. I had firsthand experience with that, but what if they surprised her somehow? Like the bomb. Unless, like she’d said, she couldn’t really control it. And if she wasn’t aware of the immediate threat, she had no defenses.

Moonlight filtered down through the trees illuminating the lawn in front of me in a subtle soft glow. Nothing stirred. Nothing made a sound. Trying to avoid being seen, I stayed close to the perimeter of the house before darting across to the cluster of trees to the left, which was where the noise came from. On the ground lay one of Elias’ guys. He was breathing but knocked out cold. I gently shook him several times before he came too. He blinked his eyes open and started to sit up. I pushed him back down and placed my finger to my lips.

He nodded and clutched the back of his head.

Keeping my voice to a whisper, I asked, “What happened?”

“Someone came at me from behind. Hit me over the head with something fucking hard. I think there were two of them because I heard something, but when I turned to look in that direction, I got hit from the other side. I never saw them.”

I helped him to sit up as he continued to rub his head. That must have been some slug to knock him out so long, plus, shifters were tough and not easily taken down that way. “I’m going to scout around and see what I can find,” I whispered.

“Be careful. I’ll radio Elias and tell him to come.”

“Fuck that. Tell him we need the pack.” I took off searching for the other guy who was supposed to be staked out on the other side of the yard when I jerked up with the sound of a scream.

  “Skye!”

  SKYE

I stood in the middle of the room, unsure of what to do. I wished I could simply flash myself away, but unless I’d felt threatened, I’d never been able to do that. Besides, where would I go? Even if I could, I didn’t have the ability to go very far, and it would only take me outside. I didn’t know what danger I might be putting myself in if I did that.

Had Milo found anything? Was he in trouble? Did he need help? I blew out the candles, not that they were so bright, but I wanted to see outside. I went to the window to look when someone grabbed me from behind. I screamed, and they wrapped their arm around my throat, holding me in a chokehold. I gagged and kicked my feet but couldn’t fight them off. I was strong, but they were stronger.

I couldn’t see their face, but I scented their wolf. The same scent I smelled in the house when my mother was killed. I tried to call out, scream, make some noise, but the chokehold was too powerful, and I was beginning to feel weak from the lack of oxygen. How had he gotten in? I thought I’d checked all the windows, but I must have missed one. I could only hope that Milo or someone heard my first shout. I tried to stay calm, so I wouldn’t instinctively teleport away, knowing I’d drag along whoever was behind me. Then again, maybe that would be enough to throw them off balance. And outside, someone might see us and help. I closed my eyes and concentrated, but nothing happened.

Tears were stinging my eyes. I needed to get this guy to release his hold so I could breathe better. I frantically glanced around for Leo; then I remembered I’d left the dagger underneath my pillow. I’d been keeping it there so it would be close at hand when I slept. I eyed the nearby pile of wood. I reached out and fisted a sturdy chunk of kindling and swung it up between my legs as hard as I could, slamming it into his balls.

“Fuck!” He released his grip around my throat and cried out, but kept his hand latched onto my arm. “You’re going to pay for that. As soon as I catch my breath.”

I recognized him instantly. I’d never forget that face, those crazed eyes so ready to kill. He was the same monster who’d murdered my mother. Still holding the piece of wood in my hand, I swung it up and bashed it against his head. He swayed a little like I’d dazed him, but he managed to stay on his feet, and his grasp on my arm stuck like glue. He knew he needed to keep a hold on me, or I might flash away. I sucked in a much-needed breath of air then squeezed my eyes tight as I thought of being outside.

A couple of seconds later, we both stood in the backyard. He’d kept his grip on me, but the flashing made it so that we were now face to face, and I shoved my knee into his groin.

“You bitch! That’s the second time you’ve tried to take out the family jewels. Now fucking stop.”

I kicked him in the shin, twice, and fought to get away, but his hold was much stronger, and he turned me back around, his arm wrapping around my shoulders, his other hand now holding a large knife against my throat.

“Don’t think you can outsmart me this time, girly. I know what you can do. I’m not letting go of you.”

“No killing this time, Carl.” Another voice from my left yelled out. “The boss was pissed off last time when you took that vampire’s head off. He made it very clear, no more killing when he found out about the bomb you placed under her car.” I squinted at the other man standing in the shadows to see if I could make out who he was. There was something familiar about him, the way he stood, seemingly so sure of himself.

“He didn’t say anything about not having a little fun with her, though, did he?” His stinky breath was hot on my neck. He kept the knife at my throat and slid his dirty, smelly finger down my side. I gagged when he pressed his tongue into my ear, and I kicked him in the shin again.

“Ow! Good to know you like it rough. Good thing you don’t have shoes on those sexy, dainty feet of yours. That would have really hurt. But don’t worry, you’ll enjoy everything I have planned for you.”

I wanted to throw up when I felt the hardness of what I knew damn well was his filthy cock. I glanced at the figure across the way. He’d told this guy not to kill me. That, at least, was something I could use. If this clown wasn’t allowed to kill me, then I could fight. He kept licking my neck and wiggling his hips, rubbing against me. He must have gotten distracted because he let the knife slip down a few inches. I quickly rotated around in his grip and reached up and grabbed his arm, twisting it, but he wouldn’t release me. The action was enough to put us eye to eye, and I spit in his face.

“Fucking bitch.” He slammed his fist into my cheek, and I started to fall backward, but he caught me, tugging me back up before I hit the ground. “Uh, uh, uh. Thought you had me, huh? I’m not stupid enough to let go of you.” The punch made me dizzy, and vomit rose in my throat. I threw up all over the guy’s shoes.

I blinked back hot tears and swiped my hand across my mouth, then glanced to my right as the other guy took a step into the clearing, into the light of the full moon and I saw his face and gasped.

It was the creep from the bar.

  MILO

“Skye?” I called out as I burst into the house.

  There was no answer.

I ran to the bathroom, already knowing she wasn’t there, but I had to hold out hope. But the place was vacant. Shit. Some guardian I was. I’ll never forgive myself if something happened to her.

I rushed out the front door. When I heard voices from the back yard, I sprinted back there, stopping in my tracks at the sight of Skye being held at knifepoi
nt by some thug.

I glanced to the left. Standing there was another man. Fucking hell. It was that creep from the bar. What the fuck was he doing here?

I heard the crack of his bones and watched as his face elongated, exposing some aggressive-looking jowls. His canines extended, his arms and legs changed to paws as the rest of his body shifted to his wolf, which snarled.

“Fuck,” I growled out and shifted to my wolf as he ran towards me, tackling me to the ground. His wolf was hefty, and nearly had me pinned to the ground, about to sink his canines into me, but my wolf was larger and stronger. I shoved at him with my paws and slid out from under him, twisting to my feet. He pounced at me again, and we tumbled to the ground, rolling several times. His claw lashed out at me, scraping me on the shoulder.

I struck him across his midsection. Fur flew in the air as I heard another growl from behind me. I took a second to look. It was Tucker. Thank God, but dammit, I didn’t want him here, putting himself in danger. I didn’t take too much time to think about that as Tucker pounced toward the guy holding Skye, who let her go as he, also, shifted to his wolf. Hopefully, Tucker could hold his own in a fight.

I shot Skye a look, hoping she would teleport herself out of there if she could now that she was free, but she only took a few steps backward and watched, her hands covering her mouth, her eyes wide with terror. I knew, without a doubt, she was reliving the horror of her mother’s death, and the memories had paralyzed her.

I turned just as the creep’s claw hit me in the throat, and I heard Skye gasp. I had no time to look to see if she was okay. My throat was bleeding, but I didn’t think it was too bad. I pounced on the other wolf and sank my canines into his neck, pulling, ripping the flesh away until there was a gaping hole in his body. Blood oozed out as he fell to the ground. He was still breathing, and he would live, but he wasn’t getting up anytime soon.
