“I love you too. More than you know.”

I kiss her forehead. Mayven is happy. That’s all I wanted for tonight.

However, when the door opens and Kelex walks in with Rhet, I breathe easy. Her night is complete. We’re all here.

Well, Tak was here. I’ll talk to him. After all, I’m not giving Mayven up. I’ve closed on the property for our new home and I’m working on finding the right ring.

“About time your ass showed up,” I say as Kelex comes over to where we’re dancing.

“Happy Birthday. Sorry I’m late.” He pulls Skittles into a hug. “Did you guys give her the thing?”

  “Yeah.”

“Shit, I ran into a problem. I would have been here sooner.”

“What kind of problem?” Skittles and I ask at the same time.

  He shakes his head. “Nothing.”

I narrow my eyes, but for tonight I let it go. Tonight, we celebrate. Tomorrow the assholes can take on the world.

  For Life

  Pit

  * * *

Five and a half months later…

“Are you sure you want to meet this side of her?” I turn to Governor Jennings and lift a brow.

Yes, that’s right. I’m dating the governor’s daughter now. So much has changed in the last year.

Skittles’ father has been on a trip or two with us. I don’t mind, he foots the bill when he comes along which always ends in the best tequilas, brandies, and cigars. He seems like a happier man to me.

One of the biggest changes has been my baby wanting to move to the next phase in our lives. I’ve seen the way Mayven looks at babies. She wants one and I want to give it to her. However, we both agreed to get some things in order first.

Which is why we are here. The governor wanted to be a part of the proposal once I asked for Mayven’s hand. I, of course, couldn’t go with something normal. This has to be an asshole proposal or none.

“You know she gets it from her mother. We never told Mayven about how we truly met. That her mother actually choked a man and broke his arm to save my life. She was new to my detail and gorgeous, I’d been sneaking glances from the time she reported to work. But turning to find her with that man collared and all the other guards watching in astonishment, I knew she was the one,” he says with a sparkle in his eyes.

I laugh. “All right, Dad. If this is what you want.”

I pull my phone and dial Skittles. I probably should have picked a different way to do this, but she’ll get over it when she sees what’s going on. She answers the phone. I inhale, ready to change our lives forever.

“Hey, Will,” I sing into the phone. “I was just thinking—”

“Baby, you’re not going to believe this shit,” he growls into the phone.

I sit up in the massage chair at the nail salon, pulling my feet from the UV light boxes. “What’s wrong?” I demand.

“Remember that chick the other night who was trying to get my number? The drunk one Ox kept you from slapping.”

Yup, I remember the persistent slut. She was about to take a grab at his junk. Ox snatched me right before I took her head off. She knew he was with me.

“Yeah, what about her?” I say, my eyes become slits as I narrow them.

“She came here and keyed my fucking car—”

  “Is she still there?”

“Yeah, babe, she’s in here talking shit. Ox and I don’t want to put our hands on—”

He doesn’t get to finish. I hang up and hop out of my seat. I don’t care if the glue is dry or not. We’re done here.

I toss my girl some cash and grab my bag. Pad off with my flip-flops on my feet, marching out to my truck. Fuck Off is about twenty minutes from the salon.

I make it there in ten. I don’t think I’ve ever driven this Range Rover so fast. When I get to the bar, I park in the back. I don’t see Will’s car, but there is a really nice Bugatti back here. Rhet must be visiting. Maybe Pit parked out front so Rhet could park it back here and that’s how she was able to key his car.

I jump out of my truck and round it to get my aluminum bat out of the trunk. Bat in hand, I head toward the back entrance of the bar. I’m sick of this. This chick would not be the first. It’s like they all want him more now that he’s taken.

I’m about to send a message. Good thing it’s not an election year, because I’m about to be on the news. Daddy will have to suck this one up.

I march through the back door in my flip-flops, sweatpants and tank top. When I enter I kick my shoes off and start a jogging run through the hall to the main area of the bar.

I come up short when Pit comes into view dressed in a tux. He’s trying to hold back his laughter as I stand confused. I look around and this doesn’t look like the scene of some crazy chick keying cars and starting trouble.

It looks more like a scene from a movie. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 to be exact. The center of the bar has been transformed. Wisteria drapes from the ceiling in white, lavender-blue, bright pink, purple, lilac, and mauve. It seems to be backlit. Petals have fallen to the floor as well.

A stage has been placed underneath the gorgeous canopy of flowers. On it stands Tak at a vintage mic with girl next to him at another mic. Behind them is an orchestra.

“I’ll take that.” I turn to my father who beams at me as he pries the bat from my fingers.

“He did all this for me?” I ask like a butthead.

“Yes, he did,” my aunt says as she and Shawna appear holding a gown and shoes.

“I told you I love the way he loves you. Come on. Let’s get you dressed,” Shawna says.

I’m on the verge of bawling like a baby. I follow behind them, looking over my shoulder at Pit. In dawns on me that I raced here to beat some chick down and now I look crazy to my family.

Asshole, I mouth to Pit, but a smile is still on my lips. He tosses me a wink as he stands with his hands in his pockets. I love this man so much.

“Wait, we’re not getting married today, right? This is not how I wanted my hair,” I say.

“Shut up,” Shawna laughs. “Just come on.”

  Pit

  * * *

I don’t think I thought about how long it would take her to get dress or the trip from the nail salon here. I’m starting to get anxious to get this all over with. Thoughts have tried to sink in and tell me she won’t choose me. I’m not good enough.

I’ve squashed those down hard. Old habits, but I won’t let them steal this from me. Ox walks over and straightens my tie, then he pats my cheek.

“I’ve always admired your willingness to jump in headfirst. This is a good look for you,” he says.

“She’s a good look for me. I wish I would have thought to get the ring I wanted designed from the beginning,” I say and frown at myself.

I was so focused on doing this perfectly, I almost didn’t get to today, but here we are. The perfect ring is burning a hole in my pocket and my woman’s getting ready. I take a deep breath. This is happening.

The orchestra starts to play and Tak begins to sing. I whip my head in the direction of the card room Mayven should becoming through. My heart skips a beat.

Her aunt called in a favor and had a lace replica designed of Bella’s wedding gown from Twilight. Of course, it’s black on top and multicolored as it flares out into a trail at the back. She looks… I don’t have words for it.

Her makeup is flawless as always and her hair, she’s let her real hair down. It’s not covered by the unit she stormed in wearing. When she stops in front of me, I note she’s not covering her scar either. I nod, this is who we’ve become.

I reach for her face and trace my fingers along her scar then down her cheek. I have to pull my hand away to drag it down my face. I feel like I’m living a dream.

“Give me a sec,” I say and swallow as she looks up at me expectantly.

Her glossy lips are trembling, and
her lashes are wet. I didn’t think this was going to be this hard. I clear my throat and place my hands on her waist and kiss her forehead.

I begin to sway to the music. Tak and a friend of mine are singing a duet cover of “In My Arms” by Johnnyswim. This was the perfect song for this.

“I want to be in your arms when I take my last breath,” I breathe against her skin. “I want to know I lived a long life, I enjoyed my days and nights, and that I did it all with you.

“When I wake in the mornings, I reach for you because you’re my anchor to this world. If I can touch you, anything else I need to do is more than possible. Do you know why?” I pull away and look her in the face.

  “No,” she says shakily.

“Because you were the impossible. I never thought I’d get to hold you, never thought I’d get to love you or have your love, not like this. I’ve wanted you for so long but having you.” I shake my head. “That was some impossible shit. You’ve taught me how to love, Mayven, not just protect, but love.

“I want to spend the rest of my life loving you and learning ways to laugh more, smile more, breathe more. You, you are the reason I breathe these days. I need you to survive,” I say.

I pause, take a deep breath, smile and lean in to her ear. “You already know I’m not giving this pussy up, so Mayven, you marrying me or what?”

“Oh my god, you just took the most perfect proposal and messed it up, you asshole,” she says and laughs. “I hate you so much.”

  “Is that a yes?”

  “That’s an I want a do-over.” She pouts.

I drop to my knee and pull the ring out. “I had a feeling you were going to say that. I can’t breathe without you, baby. Spend the rest of your life with me. Be my wife. Let me give you the world. I love you, Mayven. Will you marry me?”

I open the ring box, but she doesn’t even look at it. She cups my face and kisses me. I deepen the kiss and groan.

“That was better. Yes, William Nicky Knight, I’ll be Mrs. Knight. You’re stuck with me, remember?”

I growl and stand. “I’m not complaining.”

She gets this mischievous smile. “What?” I say, my lips turned up.

“I know he likes me. Yes, I know he likes me. Oww,” she sings and does her little shimmy dance.

I bark out a laugh. She’s crazy, but I love her.

Skittles is asleep across my chest. It took us a while to get to the bedroom once we got home. I think I fucked her on every surface in this place. Felt good too. She’s going to be my wife.

“The guys have to come to the wedding,” she says sleepily, pulling my attention away from the TV screen.

I look down at her and smile. “I don’t know. Tak came to sing for us today, but he wasn’t too pleased with me proposing.”

She groans and wiggles to snuggle her bare breasts closer to me. “He’ll get over it by the wedding or I’ll kick his ass,” she huffs.

I chuckle and turn my focus back to the TV. I almost forgot Luke had a fight tonight. I just catch the tail end, but I know enough to know he got his ass kicked.

“What kind of wedding should we have? Destination, skydiving? Oh, we can race each other to the altar. Wait, no, that will ruin my dress.”

I chuckle and turn the TV down, then look into Skittles’ face. “We can do whatever you want. Just don’t ask me to wait forever,” I grumble.

“Oh, come on, we can’t rush this,” she says. “I want the perfect dress which means it’s going to take time to order or have it custom made and fitted. Boy, I’m the governor’s daughter, you know what that means. We need time to plan the proper elite wedding.”

  “Fuck,” I huff. “Fine.”

She gives me that evil little smile. I know that means I’m in for it with this wedding. Maybe I should toss her over my shoulder and take her to Vegas to elope.

“We have to get in touch with Kelex and Luke,” she says. “I’ll track Kelex down if it’s the last thing I do.”

  “Good luck.”

  “You’ll call Luke?”

I glance at the screen when she asks. It’s just in time to catch Luke trying to fuck up his career. “Holy shit, I’ll be calling him, but I don’t think we’ll be talking about a damn wedding,” I groan.

  And here we go again.

  Acknowledgments

Thank you so much for reading this book. It gave me a run. These two were so strong yet vulnerable. I love that about them. This one was really a glimpse of parts of me and my husband. It was fun.

  * * *

I hope you love Pit and Skittles as much as I do. This project was a big undertaking and I want to sleep for a week, but there are six more books to go. LOL. Thanks for taking this journey with me and I hope you continue with the other four ladies and five books. They are all unique.

  * * *

Thank you so much my friends for your support. This is a blessing and I worked so hard to overcome fatigue and frustration to get my power back. The thing is, this book proved some things to me. You guys have been so supportive on social media and through messages and emails. Thank you for the love..

Thank you to my husband for always riding with me. You were the real inspo of this series. Bahahahaha. Inside joke. To my girls, if we aren’t family by now… we fight and love like it. Hahaha, Thank you to my team. They are crazy and drive

This was all God. If you knew the hours I worked to get this done. I pushed limits beyond limits. God had His hands all in it and I thank Him. To Him be all the glory. I give praises, knowing it’s only just begun. Thank you, Lord.

Next! Kelex! Well, for me in this series. It all started with him, but make sure you check out my girls. Their guys are fire.
