would be slaughter in the medina. The Shepherd Azir turned to his fire and doused it in readiness for a few hours of unbroken sleep.

Azir heard the hiss of the wood on the fire and saw the vapour and smoke rise into the night sky, he turned onto his side and pulled his blanked over his body, lent his head against his bag and laid his hands on his rifle. The young man rested and prayed to the night sky, if he got a decent price in the Medina he would be able to double his flock next year and then soon, he would be able to marry. He smiled with satisfaction of his plan, in a few years time he would be rich enough to become a family man.

How marvellous the night hours were spent underneath the starry sky the shepherd thought as he drifted in and out of a light sleep until he heard the sound he was always on guard for, the movement of a wolf amongst the tall grass. He jumped up from his bed and scoured the horizon counting his goats and monitoring their movements, his eyes now adjusted to the night. The young man knelt on the rock and raised his rifle to his shoulder, his grip tightened on the barrel as he traced the movement of some young kid goats next to their mother. Instinctively he waited and held his concentration and then with precision fired a single shot into the long grass over one of the kid’s heads. He watched and waited for the wolf to fall, moments later it hit the ground and displaced the grass beside his flock startling a small group into a panic as they ran towards the rest of the flock for protection.

Aziz prided himself on his shooting; he jumped down from his sniping position and began to walk toward his kill. The shepherd walked in the long grass and again began to admire his surroundings; suddenly something caught his eye he looked over to the waterfall in the distance. Sat at the top of it was the temple, and near its dome he could see an orange glow. It was the dim light of a fire in the chambers of the Royal Temple.

Aziz knew an opportunity when he saw one. This could be the break he had been searching for and he had been trained well in the dark art of death, and how to conceal his identity. His paymaster had given him the freedom to follow his instincts and provided him with the tools to put together a mercenary task force. His mission had always been to take out high ranked members of the resistance. He had faced enormous odds in the past to finish missions, and for this, he had been paid well; however, he waited for the biggest payday of all so he could retire from this land of conflict and resettle to a peaceful system far, far away from Alexandria.

He thought coldly and coolly, the assassin woke from within. Business was business, but for him to operate as an assassin he would have to maintain his cover. He stopped at the side of the dead wolf and examined his shot; it had penetrated the animal’s eye and exited via its ear. He bent down and grabbed the foot of the beast and dragged it back to his camp, moments later he made a steak and drove it into the ground on top of it he placed the wolf's head. ‘There that will make them think twice before attacking my goats,’ he said aloud to himself.

The cloaked figure sat at the side of the steak and reached into his bag, he picked out a communicator and sent a report to his commander. A man he had never seen but had provided him with all his instructions over the years, he lay back and waited for the answer.
