  ‘Perfect.’

“I see. Well, that’s absolutely fine with us. The borders to the UK are still shut, so how will we travel?”

“The UK has already cleared you to fly. No documents needed. We’d like to arrange a flight path for you. Do you have any idea how you’re planning on doing this?”

“Our reach is approximately a thousand miles. Be aware, though, that we have to work at night.”

“All right, we can work with that. A plane will be arranged. When can you be ready?”

“As soon as the paperwork is.”

“All should be done by Friday. Your international bank accounts will be set up in all your names, and I think you will find the sums they amount to will see you living comfortably for however long you may live for…”

Well, that’s definitely a question, isn’t it? I stay silent. I already told him we can’t die.

“Um,” he continues, “and no matter where you decide to marry, it will be recognised globally. All DNA experiments have also been suspended. So if everything goes to plan, what about getting started on Saturday?”

I feel a rush of excitement from the kids, and then they start to make their way over. “That’s fine.”

“And where am I sending it?”

  I frown. “Sending what?”

  “The plane?”

  “Oh. Cardiff Airport.”

“Then I'll make sure it’s there waiting Saturday, first thing. Now, no names will be released publicly, but when the laws are announced, the world will know that they of course, refer to your family. I just want to make it clear that you will receive some global interest initially, but the law protecting you should ensure it dies down pretty quickly.”

  “That’s fine.”

“Good. You’ll receive the laws from each country in writing before you land, and I’ll make sure to request the documents for your children so you have them on board Saturday’s flight. Is there anything else you need? Food? Uh, bodies?”

The brothers snort, but I just shake my head. The kids have arrived and are making their way to the couches now. They’re trying not to laugh, too.

“Normal food is fine, thanks, but hold the poison.”

  “Poison?”

I roll my eyes, but everyone else laughs. “It was a joke.”

“Oh, of course.” He chuckles, but it’s forced. “No problem. I’ll have that on board for you.”

  “Great.”

“Miss Rishan?” he says, his voice suddenly lower, “I received your sample…”

  “And…”

“We haven’t been able to obtain a sample from Gia to match it as yet. They’ve been acting very strangely and making excuses as to why she’s not available. But it doesn’t matter because—”

  “Strangely? Like how?”

“Well, I haven’t spoken to them personally, but Mister Myers has been in contact with the President.”

  “And?”

“The President didn’t mention what we discussed—don’t worry—however, when you did come up in conversation, Myers expressed very strong concerns over the world reaching out for your help, implying you have ulterior motives…”

That prick! The brothers are equally as pissed off.

“I can assure you, the only motive we have is removing zombies from the world so our children can be safe to live a normal life.”

  “I never—”

“And furthermore, Mister Myers is only concerned about his own ass! He knows he’ll be gathered with the rest of the vermin and that his days are numbered.”

  “We know.”

  I frown. “Oh…”

“Yes. Your Prime Minister’s team found him on the footage at Cambridge. Of course, we can’t prove that he’s a zombie now, but with what you’ve told us, coupled with how frantic he sounded on the call with the President, we believe that what you have said is correct. We’ve cut the funding for his ‘cure’, as per the impending law being passed.”

“Fucking good,” Dagger spits, and the brothers feel the same.

“You’ve made the right decision. He can’t be trusted. I assume they’ll be nothing for us to worry about when he’s gathered with the rest of your problems and eradicated?”

  “Not at all.”

  “Good.”

“Right, well I think that’s it. On behalf of all of us in the United States of America, I want to thank you, and we look forward to welcoming you to our country.”

“Thank you.” I hang up and look around at the brothers and the kids. “Zombies on tour, anyone?”

The kids go insane, the boys jumping over one another, and some of the girls even get teary eyed. This means the world to them. They know this is a step closer to having the freedom they crave. I even get a little emotional myself at the thought of them being free. I’ve felt how they have over the years, but I could never imagine what it’s been like to have lived in their shoes.

“We’re leaving Saturday.” They probably already know that, but I still tell them.

“We need to pack,” Amber says excitedly. “Can we go get cases somewhere?”

“Yes.” ‘Wanna go for a drive?’ I ask Thorn and Pin.

Thorn gets up with his brother. “We’ll go now.”

I get up with them, but then we’re suddenly bombarded with hugs from the kids. “Thank you so much, Mum,” Raeni says for them all. “You, too, dads.”

I hug them all tightly. “I know it must’ve been difficult for you, but we’re almost there now. We still need to be careful, though. Laws are only good for the majority, not everyone. We stay together and we stay safe, at least until our known enemies are gone, okay?”

  “Yes, Mum,” they reply.

My phone stops ringing and then immediately starts up again. It’s been doing it for about twenty minutes now, but that’s because news of our involvement in getting rid of the zombies broke this morning.

BREAKING: New laws passed for Zombie Royalty.

“So what do these new laws tell us?” the news woman asks Kay Hughes via video link.

“Well, I can confirm that Zombie Royalty have agreed to rid all countries of zombies in return for the new laws that have been passed today.”

“The US were first to break the news last night, is that because they’re the ones who have been in contact with Zombie Royalty?”

“Yes. Mason Veils has been in contact with the group.”

She doesn’t look very happy about that.

“I see, and is Mikka Rishan one of the group?”

“I can’t comment on the names of any of the individuals. I am sure they will reveal themselves when they’re ready to.”

“But how are we meant to leave them alone when we don’t know who they are?”

“For now, their anonymity allows them to get on with what they wish to do. They will be protected obscurely by measures already set in place, until such a time when they feel their identities can be made public.”

The newswoman takes Kay’s answer, but I don’t think she’s convinced by it. “All right. There has been one law passed that seems unusual: the law allowing polyandry marriage for up to six people. What are your thoughts on that?”

Kay remains straight faced, but I can see something that looks a lot like admiration in her eyes.

Trust me, girl, every woman should have five fiancés…

“I have no thoughts on it. As I think we can all tell by the laws passed today, these individuals only want to live normal, happy lives, in peace, which is what we should all want. They’ve not only asked for their own protection, which is completely acceptable, but for the safety of others, too, by asking for DNA testing to be banned.”

“Yes,” the newswoman muses, taking a quick glance down at her iPad. “I’d like to talk about that law in particular. We’ve had unconfirmed reports of Vanze Myers’ ZoNaR having its funding stopped. Can you comment on that?”

“As his company focuses on experiments o
n DNA, yes, I can confirm that funding has been stopped for ZoNaR by all sponsors. The UK included.”

“So the cure we’ve all been hoping for, won’t be used?”

Kay shakes her head. “No, it will not. It’s no longer required to be.”

“I see. And just very quickly before you go, many have expressed their views on Twitter this morning, over how these ‘hybrids’ have been treated up till now, including the false allegations against them that have recently been dropped. For years we’ve believed these ‘zombie-hybrids’ to be dangerous and, quite frankly, our enemy, but their requests for these laws to be made, paint a completely different picture, don’t they? Does the government now feel remorse for that? Especially after what they’ve done for us?”

“Of course, and we, as a government, admitted we got it wrong and, apologised for it. Look, we have all speculated on a lot since the dead first rose, the media included, but what we all need to do now is to make sure we get it right. That starts with ensuring the members of Zombie Royalty feel safe to come out of hiding, and are appreciated for that sacrifice. We must remember, they don’t need to help us…”

“Damn right we don’t,” Thorn mutters from the couch.

The brothers start discussing the interview, but I finally answer my phone. “Hey, Vince.”

  “Finally,” he complains.

  “Sorry. You okay?”

“Yeah. I saw the news. So are you coming out here?”

“Eventually. I think it will be our last stop, though.”

“They are,” he says to mum, and I hear her screaming in the background.

I roll my eyes. “Is she sitting down?”

He chuckles. “Yeah, she is. Alright, so are we gonna see the ‘Royalty’ crew when you do? You know I can’t wait to see my nieces and nephews in person.”

“I hope so. I’ll try to get them to bring you to where we’re staying while we’re there.”

“You know it’s gonna take a miracle for Mum to not come back with you.”

I smile. “I know, but if she wants to, that’s fine. Are you gonna come back, too?”

“I don’t know. Me and Cary have spoken about it a little, but it’s complicated.”

“Alright, well, I won’t take it personally if you don’t. You can always visit once flights return to normal.”

“Yeah.” He suddenly squeals. “I can’t wait to see you, boo. I’ve missed you.”

My heart warms. I can’t wait to see them either. “I've missed you, too. Tell Mum I’ll call her tomorrow, alright? I have a few last-minute bits to pack so we’re ready to leave in the morning.”

  “Will do. Love ya.”

  “Love you both.”

I hang up and hear Hope calling us over to the girls’ house. The new masks are ready. The kids have decided to have different ones for each stop.

“Come on, my Kings, the kids are summoning us.”

They end their conversation and stand, then as we make our way out, I jump onto Axe’s back. I kiss his neck and immediately feel his arousal.

“Do that again, and we won’t make it.”

I smile as I lean into his ear. “We will, you’ll just have to punish me later.”

  “Does Mikka need a spanking?”

  “Maybe.”

“Shit, I can’t wait to see that again,” Pin says, catching us up. He lifts my dress to slap my ass before running off.

I narrow my eyes at him and watch him stumble when I stroke his dick.

  That will teach him…

‘Excited much?’ I ask the kids, turning in my seat to look at them all.

  ‘Yes,’ they all reply.

We have our black masks on, and I think we terrified the shit out of the cabin crew and pilot. We didn’t go through the terminal, luckily, ‘cause I think we might’ve caused a series of heart attacks if we did.

I’m pretty sure it’s more our reputation that makes others fear us; that’s what I got from their minds as we boarded. I’m not sure if I’m truly invested in them fearing us, but I suppose for the moment, it’s the thing that will protect us most.

We can’t die, so I’m not exactly sure what I’m scared of. I just know that I’m fiercely protective over all of us. All I want is for us to return home together so I can relax. I don’t think anything will happen—all this is straight forward—but I can’t say I don’t feel anxious for our last stop.

If we’re going to encounter any problems, it will be there, just because of Gia and Vanze. He still hasn’t made a statement, even though ZoNaR is practically in ruins. I’m just glad no flights are running accept the ones we’ll be on, otherwise, they’d most likely try to do a runner.

And we can’t let that happen.

Thorn slides the sealed envelope on the table over to me, so I open it up and flick through the papers. ‘First stop, France,’ I read out to them all, and I smile when I hear the high-fives around me. ‘…I have the laws for France in writing here…’ Their zombie population is low, but we didn’t get them all. ‘...new laws look fine…our names are all correct…’ I find the details for the international accounts. ‘…uh, accounts in twenty-one names, each holding a balance of ten billion pounds sterling…’ I look up and see the shock that I feel, on each of their faces. ‘Ten billion pounds?’ I say to the brothers.

‘That’s not a lot if you think about it,’ Pin says, unimpressed. ‘Not when you don’t die and Google alone is worth a trillion. It’s fine for what we need, but really, they’ve taken liberties with those amounts.’

‘He’s right,’ Axe agrees, ‘but it’s still decent, and money that we can grow. I mean, after all this shit, I wouldn’t mind getting a job again.’

‘Same,’ Dagger says, and so does Thorn.

I hadn’t even thought about what we’d do after this, but even I wouldn’t mind working back in science somewhere.

‘Exactly,’ Axe says, ‘they paid, which is what matters.’

‘Think about how many pairs of kicks we can get with that,’ Prince says to his brothers.

The girls are at it, too, and the six of us roll our eyes.

Blade smirks. ‘They’ll have to build themselves bigger houses to hold all that shit.’

The thought of them never having to worry about money is comforting. I’ll be able to make my mum and brother comfortable, too, and that sits well on my heart.

I look back down at the papers and settle on the new law on marriage. I smirk. ‘I’ll be able to call you my brother-husbands soon.’

‘We’ll have to decide where we’re gonna do it first,’ Dagger says, blessing me with his gorgeous smile.

True. ‘Who’s gonna say ‘I do’ first?’

They look between each other before an argument ensues.

I shake my head and turn my attention to the kids, feeling emotional at the way their eyes light up as the plane begins its ascent.

  This is happiness.

  Nineteen

  Mikka

  A month later…

The plane finally touches down on American soil at the break of dawn, and I breathe a sigh of relief. Just here left, and then we can all start living our own lives again.

The past month has passed exactly how I knew it would. Fly, land, wait for night to fall, release minds, sleep, and repeat. We’ve been worshiped like Gods everywhere we’ve landed, by the countries themselves and on the news, and I pretty much think the entire world now follows us on social media.

Pin’s continued to post the footage from each country we’ve helped, and with each one, the views have increased. His fans are loving it, and the messages of thanks and stories of people’s personal experiences with zombies have touched all of us. I mean, none of us asked for this, we were just thrown into it by God-knows-who, but to be able to help so many people get back the same thing we want, well, it’s been something special.

And we’ve basically seen the world, too.

We’ve taken a few extra stops and added a few destinations to the flight
plan, but the countries have all been accommodating, and when one of the kids have wanted to visit somewhere in particular, we’ve made it happen. Some of them intend to go back to a few places to spend more time there, and the six of us are fully behind them.

They deserve it. Our kids are incredible.

But most importantly, and what’s made us happiest, is that after each night of us releasing the dead, the burden of zombies becomes less heavy on our kids’ shoulders. They talk more and more about a life after this, what their passions and dreams are. They aren’t driven to save or change the world anymore, they’re driven to be free.

  And they’re finding peace.

We’ve become stronger with each place we’ve visited, and the kids have taught us new ways to gather the dead. I thought it would take us longer to get here, but with our eldest guiding the younger ones, it’s gone quicker than any of us could’ve hoped for.

Oh, and I almost forgot, we’ve seen quite a few familiar faces on our travels, too. So far, we’ve killed twenty-three of the people I turned in Cambridge, and now, we’re looking forward to seeing at least two more.

  In person.

The plane comes to a stop, and we do as we always do when we land. We listen to the thoughts of the people close by on the tarmac. We’ve been in the air for a few hours; flyovers of smaller islands but at low level so we didn’t have to stop. Hope was the first to figure that out while we took a night flight to New Zealand a few weeks back.

She may be quiet, but she always speaks up when it’s important.

I lean past Blade to see Mason out of the window—no President—but he's surrounded by the national guard and a few other armed men and women.

  Like that could save them...

It’s the usual sight when we land, although, you’d think they’d know by now that we don’t pose a threat to humans. Whatever. It just means we get to have a little fun like we usually do by letting them know exactly who’s in charge.

None of them are thinking of anything sinister, which is always a relief, but they’re all anxious. Mason’s aid might even throw up.
