As she lovingly touched the Saffron Crocus, a rare species of purple orchids, Janey laughed softly to herself. Well, if she’d had any doubts about her sex drive, they were all laid to rest.

She stood up and stretched lazily, enjoying the faint streak of sunlight that made its way into the greenhouse. As the fabric of her bra rubbed gently against her nipples, she felt them turn hard in response.

“Story of my life…” she muttered tightly.

With her eyes closed, she brought her thighs together and squeezed gently. Pure bolts of pleasure coursed through her and she gasped as her eyes flew open. She did not need to check; she knew she was wet down there.

Janey was a mess and she knew it. She thought of nothing but sex. Sex with Drew.

She imagined him taking her in so many different ways, it amazed her how imaginative she’d suddenly become. Even though she had never really seen him nude, she’d imagined him that way. By far her best fantasy featured them both in her office. Her eyes glazed over as she relieved that fantasy.

The sound of the greenhouse door being opened promptly pulled Janey out of her fantasy. Even without looking back, she knew it was Drew and it wasn’t just because she was expecting no one else. She could feel his presence.

  “Janey?”

She heard her name but kept her back resolutely to him. All Drew had to do was take a single look at her and he would know exactly what state she was in. So she kept her head down and focused on the row of pots containing beautiful white Amazon Lilies.

“Hmm…?” she answered without looking up.

  “Are you okay?”

Trust him to pick up on that. “Yeah. What’s up?”

“I need to get some more groceries. I came to find out if you needed anything.”

Drew was standing right next to Janey now. It was not a big greenhouse, but it had always seemed to be reasonably sized to Janey. At that moment, though, it felt as though he had sucked up all the space.

  “I don’t need anything.”

She took a deep breath and was overwhelmed by his scent. It was amazing that she was able to pick out his scent when there were so many sweet smelling flowers growing around her. But he was standing right next to her, she could see tan-colored boots he had on. Besides, she was so attuned to the man that it really should not have surprised her.

He was silent for several moments, then he said quietly, “Look at me, Janey.”

Janey bit her lip and shook her head. She was so damn turned on that she was calling on every bit of self-restraint to keep from crawling all over him. She wanted to crawl into him and get lost in every part of him. It was like a craving in her system and she’d tried everything she knew to get rid of it. She was fast running out of options.

She knew that if she made the mistake of looking into his eyes, she would forget why she’d pulled the brakes on what they both so clearly wanted.

  “Janey…”

Janey forgot herself for a moment and looked up. The passion she saw blazing in his eyes arrested her. She whimpered at the sheer force of it.

They stared at each other in silence. Later on, when she thought about it, Janey could not say for sure who had made the first move. One minute they were standing there surrounded by different exotic flowers, gazing at each other, and the next, their mouths were fused in a kiss that was so hot, so passionate, it drove every single thought straight out of her head.

Every thought except the need to feel and to taste.

Janey was consumed with need. She felt herself unravel as she kissed Drew back with uninhibited abandon. She strained against him and trembled when she felt his hands caress her body. He sank his fingers into her hair and gently massaged her scalp as he kissed her like a man starving. She slipped her hands beneath his jacket and found where his shirt was tucked into his pants. A few tugs and she was able to run her hands over his hot skin.

Drew broke the kiss and groaned against her mouth. His hands slid down to her backside and he pressed her against his erection. Janey whimpered, as she struggled to nestle him between her thighs.

  She was beyond thinking.

“Janey…” Drew groaned as he trailed kisses down the side of her neck. He placed his palm on her breast and she shuddered.

She dipped her hand into the elastic waistband of his sweatpants and circled his manhood.

  “Shit!” He closed his eyes.

Janey ran her hand over him, from the shaft to the tip.

Drew caught her hand and brought it out. She looked up at him in a confused daze.

He captured her lips in another long kiss, then drew back.

“I need to taste you,” he said.

She looked at him in confusion. Then her eyes widened in shock when he went down on his knees and gently pulled down her pants. Her panties followed. Janey began to shake in reaction.

  “Open your legs, sweetheart.”

She spread her feet apart and gasped when she felt his hand cup her core. She held on to him, knowing her feet could not support her.

“Drew…” she suddenly wasn’t sure about this.

  “It’s okay, babe. Just relax.”

He used the tip of his index finger to circle her core, igniting a fire deep inside her. Janey’s eyes shut as ripples of sensation went through her body. She felt liquid pool there and when he dipped his finger in, she gasped as the need began to build.

Drew groaned as he felt how wet she was. He added a second finger and she could not keep the moans inside anymore.

“Drew,” she moaned his name as her hips moved to the rhythm his fingers set.

“You’re so sexy, baby.” She could hear the strain in his voice and knew that he was also affected by what was happening.

Drew wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her forward, then he nuzzled his face against the V of her thighs.

Janey was panting. She could feel her orgasm building. She couldn’t believe that it could be so quick and so easy. She felt Drew move and then suddenly, his tongue was right there, where his fingers were a few moments ago.

  “Ohmygod, ohmygod!” she gasped.

She felt his mouth all over her core and his tongue was doing some crazy stuff. She was literally dripping and Drew just lapped it up. He used his tongue to penetrate her heat and she bucked as her legs suddenly failed to hold her.

Drew kept a tight hold on her while he continued to lick, suck and tease. The pressure began to build inside Janey. She tried to hold it in, and bit her lips to silence the moans that were struggling to escape. Then he brought his hand to her pelvis, just above the parting in her thighs and she lost in. Unable to keep the sounds in anymore, Janey began to moan as her hips moved in rhythm with his tongue.

“Oh Drew…shit. Oh my god. It’s too much.” She could not take it anymore. She felt like she was going to explode. “Don’t stop,” she was almost sobbing at the intensity of the pleasure, “Please, don’t stop.”

She was enveloped in a haze of passion, totally blind to everything else. All she could do was feel. The potent feeling began at the center of her heat and the ardor spread to every other part of her body. Her nerve ends tingled as her legs turned to mush. She had no idea how she kept standing.

Suddenly, Drew did something with his tongue and she felt the orgasm hit her almost without warning. Her body tensed as she spiraled out of control. She saw stars and felt like she’d splintered into a thousand different pieces. In the background, she heard a scream and was shocked to discover that it was coming from her.

She was still shaking when Drew got to his feet, pulling up her panties and her pants in the process. He gathered her in his arms and covered her mouth in a deep, fervent kiss. She tasted herself on him and it was the most erotic experience she’d ever had.

When she finally came down, Drew was soothing her hair and murmuring words of endearment.

“That’s it, darling. You are so beautiful,” he said against her lips.

  “Drew…”

  Janey was
devastated. She felt vulnerable, like her soul had been stripped naked before him. She lifted her gaze to his.

  “I know, baby.”

She did not know how to feel. Her emotions were all over the place. She shut her eyes against the tears that were threatening to fall, but some drops still escaped.

“What is this, sweetheart?” Drew caught the tears with his tongue and placed gentle kisses on each eyelid.

Janey’s eyes fluttered open and she gazed into his without saying a word. She was falling for this man and she was suddenly very afraid, because she knew without a doubt that he was going to break her heart.

She brought both hands to cup his face and slowly brought his mouth to hers once again. This time, she kissed him with everything she had inside, letting her emotions through without a filter. She slanted her mouth across his and kissed him thoroughly. The kiss was tender, ardent and intense. And it left them both shaken to their core.

When they finally came up for air, they stared at each other in stunned silence. Janey had put all her feelings into the kiss and Drew had given back every single emotion she felt in his own kiss.

He ran a hand over her arm in a gentle caress. His touch went down to her wrist, then back up again. He touched her face, then her hair.

  “Janey.”

  “Drew.”

They both spoke at the same time.

Janey smiled briefly, then nodded at him to continue.

Drew dropped his hand and shoved them into his pocket. “I can’t do this friendship thing,” he said at last.

  She frowned.

“I don’t mind being your friend, I love being your friend. But I want you too much to leave it at that.”

Janey opened her mouth to reply, but Drew placed a finger on her lips, effectively silencing her. He wrapped his arm around her waist and drew her to him until there was no space between their bodies.

“I’m not saying you should reply me now. I’m just telling you how I feel. I can’t help touching you, and kissing you and I’m not going to stop doing that.”

With that, he kissed her and then let her go.

Janey felt the loss keenly. Whenever she was in his arms, she felt so right. It was beyond what she could put to words. He touched a place deep inside her and it made her feel things she had no business feeling.

Just then his phone rang. He pulled it out of his pocket and glanced at the screen. Then he looked up at Janey, his expression was torn.

“It’s okay, answer it,” she said.

“It’s Tamika, so it must be important.”

Janey nodded and turned to leave.

  “You don’t need to go.”

She shook her head. She needed to be alone. “Don’t worry, I need to do some stuff.”

She walked out of the greenhouse, still pretty much dazed about what had just happened. As she walked to the house, she hesitated by the door, then decided to keep on walking. What she needed was a nice walk around her neighborhood. She needed to clear her mind and get her emotions under control.

She thought of going back to get a warmer jacket, but she was not going to be out for too long and the sweater she had on was warm enough for the time being. So she kept on walking.

  Chapter Nine

Janey loved her neighborhood. It was clean and the residents were friendly. As she walked past the neatly cut, square-shaped lawns, she thought about how lucky she’d been that her grandma had decided to leave her house to her. She remembered coming over to visit her grandma when she was in high school and the tons of fun they had gardening together. Her grandma had given her the love for gardening and it was one that she would always remember.

Janey missed her grandma. She would have known what to do about Drew. She would never tell Janey what to do, that wasn’t Grandma’s style. Instead, she would say something cryptic that seemed to have no meaning, but it invariably showed her the path to take.

She did not know what path to take.

She was still shaken from the encounter in her greenhouse. She could not believe he’d done that to her right there in public, and she’d let him too. She did not know who she was anymore.

Janey shivered lightly as the cold began to penetrate the sweater she wore. She increased her pace. She didn’t know what to do with Drew. Her head told her to run as far away from Drew as her legs could carry her. But her heart was the most confusing of all. Her heart kept drawing her to him, like a magnet. She felt helpless to resist.

“I have to resist him,” she murmured to herself. But how? That was the million-dollar question.

A car honked behind her. Janey ignored the sound and kept walking, lost in her thoughts. The car honked several times, catching her attention. Finally, she slowed down and peeked behind her to see who it was. It was Riley’s bright yellow little bug.

Janey came to a complete halt and turned around. Riley stopped the car and stepped out. Her hair was now pink, streaked with gold and silver.

  “Hey Riley, what’s up?”

When the other woman came closer, Janey noticed that she’d been crying. She stepped forward in concern.

“What is this? What’s upsetting you?”

“Sorry to bother you, Janey, but I was wondering if I could talk to you.”

Janey could tell she was in distress but not much else. She nodded. “Sure.”

“Do you mind if we go somewhere quiet?”

Janey hesitated. She hadn’t told Drew she was going anywhere and she didn’t have her phone with her. The last thing she wanted to do was cause him to worry.

Seeing her hesitate, Riley spoke, “I won’t keep you for long.”

  Janey nodded. “It’s alright, Riley.”

She followed the other woman to her car and slipped into the passenger’s side.

They drove out of the Iron Horse Ranch Estate. Janey sent a questioning glance to Riley.

“I just want to pick something from my apartment. Is that okay?”

  “Sure.”

Riley was sobbing quietly, and the tears flowed down her face without inhibition.

“Riley, won’t you tell me what the problem is?” Janey asked as gently as she could.

Riley let out a sob. “Oh Janey! I’ve been seeing this guy for some months. He just told me now that he’s getting back with his ex-girlfriend.”

“Oh no!” Janey had no idea Riley was in a relationship. She wondered about the secrecy. Riley was usually so open with every part of her life.

“And you know the worst part?” she asked and went on without waiting for a response. “The girlfriend does not even deserve him!” She spat the last part out and turned to look at Janey.

The look in her eyes was so venomous that Janey recoiled slightly.

Seeing her reaction, Riley grimaced. She reached for a tissue from the tissue box on her dashboard and wiped her eyes.

“I’m sorry, Janey. I’m just in a bad shape right now.”

Janey smiled, a little nervous. “It’s fine.”

But she was beginning to feel uncomfortable.

She’d known Riley for a few years, but they had never really interacted outside the store. She liked the young woman; she was bright, friendly and quite smart. She knew that she’d been married and divorced. She was a transplant to Broken Arrow and had lived in North Carolina before packing up her life and moving out here, after her divorce. Janey didn’t even know if she had many friends. She probably should have reached out more to the woman. She made up her mind then to do just that going forward.

They had arrived at Riley’s place. They parked in front of one of the apartment buildings at Treetop Apartments. The neighborhood was neat and clean, though a little crowded for Janey’s taste. Guess she had become gentrified, living where she did.

Riley undid her seatbelt and stepped out. Then she looked into the car and said almost shyly, “Please come in, Janey. You’ve never been to my place.”

After a brief hesitation, Janey took off her seatbelt and got out of the car.r />
Riley’s place was really nice. It was simply, yet tastefully decorated.

“You have a lovely home, Riley.”

Riley gave a half smile. “Thanks.”

Janey noticed a framed photograph above the mantelpiece. It was of a graying couple with their arms around each other. They were smiling into each other’s eyes.

  “Are these your folks?”

Riley looked at the photograph and sighed. “Yes. I’ve been a huge disappointment to them.” Then she shrugged.

  “Does it bother you?”

“Not really. I’m kinda used to it.”

That bothered Janey. She was also a disappointment, especially to her mother. She had grown up knowing that her mother was disappointed in her and it bothered her. She didn’t think a day would come when it would cease to bother her.

“Please have a seat,” Riley said.

Janey sat down on the armchair as Riley disappeared inside. She wished she’d brought her phone with her. Drew must be going crazy wondering where she was. Thinking of him made her tingle down there. She could still feel him there.

Janey was suddenly feeling quite warm. She pressed her palms to her face, not surprised to find it hot. She missed Drew. She couldn’t explain it and she was tired of fighting it.

So what if he was the wrong man for her? And what if he was going to break her heart? She would get over it. And until the right man came around, if he ever did, she could have the most exciting sexual experience of her life.

  It was almost too tempting.

Was this how Diane felt about the senator?

She’d never been able to understand how her sister was able to sustain such a long affair with a married man. It had seemed so senseless to Janey. But as she struggled with her body’s near obsession for Drew, she was suddenly able to appreciate just how much of a pull full-blooded lust could have on a person. It took a really strong person to resist. And Janey did not think she was that strong.

“I made you a cup of tea, just the way you like it.” Riley suddenly appeared holding a cup of green tea.

Janey frowned slightly. “Oh Riley, you really shouldn’t have. I need to get going.” Then seeing the hurt look on the other woman’s face, she changed her mind. “You know what? Let me have it, I do need to warm up a little. Thank you.”
