by Ayana Gray

To my two lifelong best friends, Adrie and Robyn: You are irreplaceable. Thank you for always being there for me and for blessing me with two beautiful friendships that have spanned decades and continents alike. I’ve grown better with and because of you.

There are so many incredible friends and mentors who’ve shown me unending kindness. Thank you to Bates, Bricker, Brumett, Jarret, Billie, Akshay, KI Fall ’12, Daniel, Katie and Sterling, Chris, Kim, Michelle, Kris, Alison, Stacey, Joan, Mackenzie, Ronetta Francis, Erin Hodge, Jon Cannon, Dr. Angela Mosley Monts, Dr. Janine Parry, Dr. Calvin White, Jr., Mr. William “Bill” Topich, Ms. Megan Abbott, Dean Todd Shields, and especially Dr. Jeff “Jefe” Ryan and the Class of 2013 Polvios, who changed my life.

And to my Puddin’: You have been with me every step of the way, even when life was cruel and kept us miles apart for a whole year. Your fierce love for me and adamant faith in me know no bounds; what an honor it is to call you mine and to be yours. Here’s to road trips across the Outback, cliffside picnics, a New Orleans park bench, and a beach in Hawaii. Our story is my favorite of all.
