“We’ll see,” Everly teased, messing up Mace’s curly locks.

Henley laughed as they pushed each other's buttons for a few minutes, giggling like they probably did as children. Nothing felt weird in that moment — like nothing had happened between them and that Mason wasn’t leaving them for a while.

Since opening up to Everly about his feelings, there was less tension between them. It felt like they were getting a fresh start. She wasn’t thinking about the incident at the bonfire or his past. He wasn’t thinking about the baby she had pushed out only to give to another family. They were going to explore parts of their relationships with no boundaries—no reservations.

As they fell asleep, a tangled blob on the floor, Henley knew that he was exactly where he was meant to be.
