"You know what?" Karen said as she looked at the inside loading area of the building, tapping her finger on her chin and biting on her bottom lip.

"What?" Barry asked, as he took his attention from a guy wiring in a new light socket and looked at Karen.

"I really think this is going to be our new home, but we need an indoor fountain, it will add a measure of tranquility that this place needs, right about there," Karen said, and she pointed to a spot inside the loading dock.

"That does sound good, and it's big enough in here to put one in and still have enough room to park all the cars, you better tell Marko," Barry said looking around for him.

"Better tell Marko what?" Marko said, walking up behind Barry and Karen.

"I think a fountain would look great, right about here, don't you think so? It will add a measure of tranquility and peace that every home needs," Karen said, batting her eyes at Marko.

"You know, that does sound good, I think we can manage to get it put in, and it's on me," Marko said, smiling and nodding his head approving the addition.

"Oh, thank you," Karen said, and she hugged Marko.

"Damn, I would have put a fountain in a long time ago to get a hug like that," Marko said, laughing.

"Oh, stop it," Karen said, as she hit Marko's arm.

"You better watch out for Tyson, she's an abuser," Corey said laughing.

"I am not," Karen said, and then she swung at Corey.

"See, I told you," Corey said, while he ran from Karen.

"Come here! Stop running you chicken," Karen yelled, as she chased Corey, swinging at him when she got close.

The crew had stopped working and were looking at Corey run from Karen and were all laughing, some of them even sat down and drank while they watched the chase go on. Barry saw a few guys start eating lunch; he just laughed with everyone else. Corey saw the crowd watching and stopped and took a bow. Karen used the opportunity to catch Corey and hit him, which made the workers start laughing once again.

The Senator was going over the last few details of the Vinny the Chin case with his two F.B.I. Cronies, making sure everything was perfectly in line. The Senator was going to introduce Agent Harold and Agent Marone to the public, and probably take a few questions, so he wanted to be sure there were no slip-ups. The plan was going so well that the kingmaker had called him, the Senator was certain now more than ever that the White House was his for the taking. Ron Donaldson had won every Presidential campaign he had overseen, and if he was calling it wasn't about the weather. The Senator would confirm the nature of the kingmakers call after his press conference with the two Agents. The Senator may not have looked like it from the outside, but he was nervous, he knew that Donaldson would be watching him during this press conference and a slip up could cost him the Presidency before he got started. The Senator had to continue doing what he had done to this point. He hadn't even thought about Ron Donaldson, but the moves he had made had landed him, the kingmaker right on his front doorstep. The Senator felt empowered. He had been making the right moves and choices, so he had to continue. The Senator hadn't thought of Ron Donaldson calling on him; if he had missed such a big player in the game, he wondered what else he could have possibly missed? The Senator was signaled that it was time. So his thoughts about what else he could've perhaps missed had to be put on hold. So The Senator, Agent Harold, and Agent Marone could make their way to the podium that was set up for the afternoon press conference.

"Good afternoon everyone, as promised I am here to introduce the Agents in charge of the task force that has not only stopped the violence here in Columbus but has put the notorious mobster Vinny the Chin out of business and our lives forever. These two brave Agents have been working tirelessly to shut down the corrupt empire that this thug has built and operated. They did manage to seize over one million dollars as well." The Senator had to pause because the crowd of reporters erupted into cheers, as the Senator had four Police officers wheel out the million-plus dollars on carts so that he could get the maximum effect of this press conference. The Senator continued once the cheers and applause died down; we are very confident that this organization is done. The local authorities can handle running down the last of these thugs. I want you all to know that we are now going to focus all our efforts into catching the C.C.K Killer and ending his reign of terror on our beloved country. The investigation is still active. So questions will be limited. I will say this before I take any questions," the Senator paused briefly and looked directly into the camera and then began to speak again." We are coming for you, Mr. C.C.K Killer. Your days are numbered. There will be no more terror allowed on the citizens of this great nation. We are coming for you," the Senator said, and the cheers and applause erupted in the room once again. When the cheering and hand-clapping died down for a second time, a reporter asked a question.

"Hi, Senator Fueller, Steve Miles, Columbus Free Press, what inspired you to go it alone and form this task force?" The reporter asked the Senator as he sat back down.

"Good afternoon, Steve, and a great question as well. I was just tired of all the madness, as most of you, are and decided to take action, even if I failed, I had to try, we deserve better than this, and you put me here to make things better, so we start making things better, today," the Senator said, with a look of determination on his face.

The crowd went wild and cheered for the Senator once again as lights flashed, and cameras clicked, the Senator answered a few more questions and the Agents each answered two questions, then they left. The Senator was starting to get settled in when his assistant spoke to him.

"Senator, you have a call, it's Mr. Donaldson," Deborah said, holding the phone so the Senator could take it, knowing he would not refuse this call.

The Senator looked a little shocked, which surprised Deborah, she couldn't ever remember the Senator being surprised by anything. The Senator seemed to recover quickly and put his hand out to take Deborah's phone.

"Yes, I'll take the call, and thank you," the Senator said, and he seemed to be fully recovered from being surprised.

"You're welcome, Senator," Deborah said, and she handed him the phone and sat back in her seat.

"Hello, this is Senator Fueller," he said, answering the phone, his tone even and unstartled.

"Yes, and soon to be a lot more, we need to talk. I know you are running from one event to another, but I need to get you where I have your full attention. So, have your assistant call me when you have time, let's say two hours," Mr. Donaldson said.

"I will certainly find time for you in the next day or so, if that's okay, otherwise I can move some things around to see you sooner."

"That will be just fine, no need to move anything around, we will talk in the next day or so," Mr. Donaldson said and hung up.

The Senator handed Deborah her phone back and let her know he needed two hours to meet with Mr. Donaldson in the next day. Deborah nodded her head and instantly started typing in her tablet. The Senator was sure now that he would be the next President of the United States as he sat back and closed his eyes, thinking of the Oval Office. His plans were coming together, and the White House didn't seem to be the impossible dream anymore. However, it would take a well thought out plan, and a series of well-organized moves to get there.

  Chapter 3

  Family Ties

"Hello, Dad?" Becky said while she dried her hands on a towel, she got from the door handle of the refrigerator.

"Yes, hello Becky, how are you and little Kat?" Dave asked, sounding a little nervous.

"We're fine, how are you?" Becky asked while she continued to dry her hands on the towel, positioning the phone on her shoulder so she wouldn't drop it.

"I'm good; I wanted to see if I could come by and bring dinner, one day this week if that's okay?" Dave asked, more relaxed now, but still a little nervous.

"I think Friday would be the best day because it gets hectic during the week," Becky said as she put the towel back on the refrigerator door handle
.

"Friday sounds great; how about five? I can bring some chicken and all the fixings."

"That sounds good; it's been a while since we had some take out, we will be waiting. Are you sure you can make it? I don't want to tell Kat you're coming and something comes up," Becky said, looking out the window of her kitchen.

"I will be there, no worries, I promise," Dave said just happy he wasn't turned away.

"Okay, I will tell Kat you're coming, I know she will be happy to see you," Becky said as she opened a cabinet trying to figure out what to cook for dinner.

"I will be there, and tell her I love her, and you too," Dave said, feeling excitement in his life that he hadn't felt in a very long time.

"Okay, I love you too, see you Friday," Becky said and hung up.

Dave was not an emotional person, but with everything going on, he broke down and cried after he hung up the phone.

Ed Daniels was finishing up watching the news press conference of the Senator and even he was impressed, the Senator turned that press conference into an event that would be talked about for days. He knew the Senator might have pulled a fast one, but he had a little public event planned as well. He knew it was nothing spectacular, but the media would be attending an event that would not only feed the homeless but also provide them with sleeping bags and new shoes and socks. Ed got to the event, and things were going well, the media was there and covering everything. Ed wasn't sure how much of this event would get on television, but he was sure it would get televised. Ed thought of it as gaining back a small amount of momentum. He was talking to a few people and not paying much attention to what was going on around him; then he heard a huge commotion. Ed looked up to see what was going on and he couldn't believe his eyes, it was Senator Fueller. Senator Fueller had come to his event and brought a cargo van full of supplies for the homeless and a food truck to provide hot meals on the spot. Ed walked over to greet the Senator looking at the food truck setting up to feed people, with every media member there watching and filming. Ed had to remind himself that he was on camera and to play it cool; otherwise, he would be watching his meltdown on every news channel, over and over again.

"Well, I didn't expect to see you here, Senator," Ed said, putting his hand out to shake the Senator's hand. Ed forced a smile onto his face, thinking of the news cameras covering the event.

"I am sorry, I should have called, I truly didn't mean to crash your event, but it is a good cause, and I wanted to support you in this very worthy effort," the Senator said while he shook Ed's hand and smiled for the cameras.

"No problem at all Senator, we are glad you showed up, thank you," Ed said as he looked around at the crowd gathering around him and the Senator.

"Well, I must be going, no questions please, this is Mr. Daniels event, I am here merely to support this effort for the betterment of our people and community," the Senator said as he left and waved at everyone, stopping only to sign autographs in the midst of a sea of cameras and reporters.

Ed was trapped in a sea of media coverage, and he couldn't let his true feelings show, but he was mad as Hell. The Senator was a sneaky bastard, using his event against him, even though he was angry he had to admit it was a great move, and this time the smile that showed on his face was genuine.

The Senator knew about the event and planned to do something to upstage Ed Daniels, but he couldn't figure out how to do it without looking like a bad guy, but it was Deborah who suggested this move, and it was excellent. The Senator looked at Deborah and smiled.

"Remind me to increase your salary by twenty percent, and if you come up with another show-stopper idea like that one, make it twenty-five percent," the Senator said as he smiled and leaned back in his seat.

"Yes Senator, I will do my best for you as always," Deborah said, looking up from her tablet and smiling at the Senator, then going right back to her tablet.

The Senator knew it was time to get a cold glass of lemonade and finish the rest of his plans, or at least have them laid out. He needed to talk to Barry to make sure there were no problems; things were really coming together.

"I just got a text message from the Senator, I need to meet him this evening," Barry said, putting his phone away.

"I hope he doesn't have anything for you to do that will ruin our plans," Karen said.

"Yeah, I need to get my island boogie on," Corey said as he started to moonwalk.

"I will make sure you get your island boogie on, and our plans won't be ruined."

"What time does he want to meet you?"

  "Seven."

"Okay, can we come?" Karen asked as Corey looked at Barry, waiting on a response.

"No, he was clear that I come alone on this trip."

"Ok, well let's figure out where we're going until you have to go," Karen said.

"Tahiti, Europe, Hawaii or Egypt, or how about all of them?" Barry said.

"Damn, the only one I know who travels like that is my Aunt Ledley," Corey said.

"Really?" Karen said, looking at Corey a bit shocked, but curious at the same time.

"Yeah, but it ain't all fun and games, she does a lot of humanitarian work," Corey said, nodding his head, thinking about the work his Aunt had done.

"I have a great idea, let's take Aunt Ledley with us, it sounds like she is more than deserving, and we have the money," Karen said, smiling and looking at Corey, waiting on his approval.

"Maaaan, y'all going to ruin all my Mack daddy status," Corey said, throwing his hands up and shaking his head.

"Well, what's more important, being a Mack Daddy or Aunt Ledley?" Karen said, looking at Corey, with a little bit of disgust on her face.

  "Aunt Ledley."

"That's right, plus you will have plenty of time to be a Mack Daddy, I am sure after all this is done, we will travel around the World a few times," Karen said twirling her finger around in the air, circling an imaginary globe.

"Yeah, you're right, but no more stories about my past."

"Okay, no more Corey stories," Karen said as she looked at Barry and showed him her fingers were crossed.

"My Aunt Ledley is a lot of fun though, and she will roast anyone, did I tell you she met M.J.?" Corey said.

"Michael Jackson?" Karen said as Corey nodded, and they sat down to hear the story.

"Yep, the King himself. She was in the airport when a huge crowd started gathering near Aunt Ledley. So she looks around to see what's going on, and there is Michael Jackson. So, She walks over to him and says, "Excuse me, but you know you make enough money to buy pants that go all the way down, you don't need to be flooding, and I know you can afford to buy two gloves," She said Michael just laughed and said, "Thank you," Corey said, laughing and shaking his head.

"Wow, I am surprised she wasn't awestruck," Barry said, laughing at the story as well.

"Yeah, Michael was the man, he was absolutely, brilliant I would have been tongue-tied," Karen said, still laughing.

"Not Aunt Ledley, people are people to her, everyone is the same, Aunt Ledley really is a great woman, she believed in me when everyone else threw me away," Corey said as Karen and Barry could see Corey thinking about the years in his mind, and his eyes got a little watery.

"Hey, let's give her fifty-grand so she can go do some good on one of her humanitarian missions," Barry said.

"Let's do it," Karen said, nodding her head.

"I hadn't even thought about doing something like that, let's do it," Corey said, nodding his head in agreement.

They wound up talking for longer than expected, and it was getting near the time Barry had to leave, and he didn't get to hear the time that Aunt Ledley met Sherman Hemsley (George Jefferson) and they wound up dancing in a hotel lobby, he was dancing and sliding around like crazy. Barry made Corey promise to tell him that story as he kissed Karen and walked out to the car. Barry got in and told Karen to save him a plate, he knew she was going to cook, and he didn't want to miss out. He wasn't worried about the Senator trying to kill him, but
he wasn't sure what kind of plans he had in mind. Barry decided to relax and enjoy the ride out to the Senator. He pulled up to the house, and as usual, he parked to the left and got his pat-down and wand wave with his arms outstretched. Barry passed quality control as he called it in his mind and walked over to the Senator. He couldn't help but remember the last time he was here he killed Vinny, and his driver took a slug to the back of the head. Barry looked over where the driver's body had been laying with a pool of blood coming out of his head and thought about how beautiful this place was; no one would ever know what happened here as Barry walked up the stairs to the Senator sitting on the porch drinking lemonade.

  "Good evening, Barry."

"Good evening Senator," Barry said as he reached for a glass so that he could pour himself some lemonade.

"Listen, I have your problem just about solved, but I need you to wrap up your last kill in the next two weeks, or sooner," the Senator said.

"I was planning a trip out of the country, for a few weeks," Barry said, then took a drink of the lemonade.

"Marvelous, you can still do that, but I need this done in this time frame, no way around it, unfortunately."
