Going, Going, Goner (Double Play Series Book 2)

“A couple of the guys I’ve played with had nothin’ but great things to say. I’m happy to be workin’ with y’all.”
“We’re happy to have you with us.”
We sit in comfortable silence for a couple of minutes before Jackson breaks it.
“Remember that one time we snuck into Brady’s house and went for a swim?”
I laugh at the memory.
“Oh God, how could I not? Gabriel passed out on his front lawn and you tried to get me to go skinny dippin’ with you!”
“You stuck to your guns though. Don’t deny you snuck a peek,” Jackson says winking.
“Please, the way you paraded around, I think everyone and their mama saw way too much of you, Turner.”
He laughs again, a loud hearty laugh and I can’t help it, I do too.
“What about when you and Gabriel had the bright idea to sneak into a bar first weekend and y’all made me pick you up! I didn’t even have a Texas license yet!”
“Oh God, coach had our ass. I don’t remember you havin’ too much southern hospitality either.”
“Oh no I did not. Y’all weren't babies and I had an important final to study for. You almost puked all over my brand new car, I would have murdered you.”
“Dammit boys, y’all really don’t know when to quit. I’m fixin’ to drop y’all on the field so coach can find your sorry asses tomorrow,” Jackson mimics in a high pitched voice.
“I don’t sound like that!” I huff.
“Oh, I remember it very clearly, Savvy. I may have been two sheets to the wind but I’ll never forget your lashin’s.”
I roll my eyes and laugh, going back to eating my sandwich.
“We had some good times, Savvy.”
“We did. I uh...I should get back to work. Thank you for lunch.”
I roll up my wrapper and walk towards the garbage in the corner of my room. I feel Jackson’s presence at my back and I stand very still, careful not to let our bodies touch.
“Thanks for the date, princess.”
I shut my eyes, taking a breath before I turn to tell him it wasn’t a date. My office door is open and he is gone. I can still smell his scent though, his sexy, musky scent and I lean against the wall for balance. Dammit!
***
“Knock, knock, your favorite assistant is here,” Lacey says from the doorway of my office the next day.
I smile and stand walking over to her.
“My loyal assistant?” I ask eyeing her.
“I don't know what you're referrin’ to.”
“Good girl,” I say smiling, pulling her in for a hug.
“Dad's in the hallway, says he needs to talk to you. Need me to start organizin’?”
“I actually got a lot of the boring stuff done this morning, so see what you can find that I missed. We have fun stuff to do the rest of the day.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Wanna plan an event with me?”
“What! Of course I do! Yes,” Lacey yells, running towards her desk.
I walk out in the hallway and zero in on Jackson Turner in baseball pants. Not fucking fair. I had to avoid drooling at the baseball clinic, watching him be the most attentive teacher to Tuck, all while trying not to stare at his ass in those tight pants. That ass is...ohhh. God, I want to bite that ass. Is that a thing? Do women bite ass? As if he can hear my thoughts he turns around, smiling like the devil he is.
“Afternoon Savvy,” he drawls.
“Mr. Goner. Do what do we owe the pleasure?” I sass.
“Go out with me tonight. I'm done with this back and forth, and since yesterday was just a ‘friends lunch’, let’s make it an official date today. I'll pick you up after the game.”
“Oh my God Jackson, ya gotta stop! I don't wanna go out with you!”
“Why? Your body says different princess. Is it because of the weddin’ still? I'm sorry I told you I-”
“It's not,” I say cutting him off.
“Then what? Baggage? I'll carry yours if you carry mine,” he says closing the distance between us, grabbing his junk.
I laugh and roll my eyes, slapping him on the chest.
“I'm bein’ serious Jackson.”
“Believe me princess, so am I.’
He kisses the side of my neck and my hand goes to his waist.
“Jax,” I whine.
“One date, Savvy. I ain't gotta stop till I get what I want.”
I let out an exasperated breath and shake my head.
“Okay, okay, fine. One date.”
I roll my eyes and hold up my pointer finger.
He nods and backs away from me with that million-dollar smile, leaving me stunned and horny as hell.
Chapter 6
Savannah
I sit on my kitchen chair, tapping my foot and looking over at the clock on the stove. Three minutes. He should be here in three minutes. I get up and pace the kitchen, the only sound is my heels clacking on the floor.
I haven’t been on a date with someone other than my ex-husband in over a decade and I am freaking out. I was with Hugh for so long, that I forgot what it is like to stress over a date. I look down and examine my dress.
It is a short, black, halter top dress, It hugs my body closely, but not too tight to make it skanky. I hope that it’s not too much and I briefly think about changing quickly, before he gets here.
“Stop it, Savannah. It’s Jackson. He wouldn't have asked you to dinner if he didn't want to. Stop actin’ like a damn fool,” I scold myself.
I hear the doorbell with a jump, then I walk quick to the front door. I take a deep breath and open it and the air catches in my throat.
Jackson is standing at my door in a suit. A fucking suit. I open my mouth to speak but my throat is dry. I have no words to describe how delectable he looks in a suit. He walks towards me and puts a finger under my chin, effectively shutting my mouth and places a soft kiss on the corner of my lips.
“You have plenty of time to gawk. Let's go, before I pin you against this wall and bury myself inside you.”
I close my eyes and focus on breathing and not on his promises. Date, Savannah, you're going on a date. The rest can wait. I nod and walk through the door, turning around to lock it.
We walk out to the car and he opens the door for me to get inside. He walks around and slides onto the leather, as he starts the engine. It purrs to life and I look over to him as he puts it in drive.
“So, where are you takin’ me?” I ask
“We’re goin’ dancin’,” he smirks.
“Dancin’?” I ask confused.
“Yep.”
He grabs my hand across the console and squeezes it. So much for keeping my head out of the gutter. As soon as Jackson's hand touches me, my body takes over the reasoning part of my brain. This should be a fun night.
We pull up outside a building that is swarming with people and flashing lights. He gets out of the car and walks around to my side, opening my door for me.
“Where the hell did you take me?” I ask, laughing.
“We’re in season so it's a little crazy. Don't pay attention to them, focus on me. Once we get inside, it'll be okay,” he whispers, as cameras go off and people shout his name.
“Goner, who’s the girl? How many homers are you planning on hitting against Arizona this weekend? You nervous going against Schmidt?”
All of them are talking at once and the lights of the camera brings a chill to my spine. Jackson cups my cheek and it steadies me.
“We're gonna have some fun tonight, Savannah Gavinwood. I hope you can move in those shoes.”
He quirks a brow down to my six-inch, black stilettos and I cringe, just thinking about the blisters that I will have tomorrow. In a quick second, my back is against the cool metal of his black sports car and his hard body is pressed into mine.
“Or we can skip this whole charade and we can do another form of dancin’, where you don't need the shoes,” he whispers in my ear.
His han
d comes up to the hem of my dress, and I grab his wrist to stop him from inching up further.
“You won't need this gorgeous dress either.”
I can feel his smile against my ear. What a cocky bastard. Fuck the blisters, we’re dancing. I push him off me softly and give him a smirk of my own.
“Dancin’ it is, Goner. I hope you can keep up.”
I push past him, well aware that he just gave the paparazzi an eyeful and put a little more swish into my walk. I can feel his gaze on me, staring a hole in my ass.
Game on Goner, game on.
Jackson
I watch the swing of her hips and growl. I thought for sure she was going to take me up on my offer.
I throw my keys to the valet boy, give a quick wave to the paparazzi, and quickly jog to catch up with that spitfire. The bouncer eyes her from head to toe, until I walk up behind her and slip my hand to her lower back. I pin him with a stare and he turns back to look at her ID.
Back off, buddy.
He nods to check mine and opens the rope for us to enter.
The club is loud, very loud. The bass of the music is pulsing through my body and I look over to Savannah. She is smiling and looking up at all the lights, flashing on the ceiling.
“I never did this,” she says loudly, leaning over to me so that I can hear her over the thumping of the music.
“Did what?”
“Go out...like this. I mean we had the parties with the team but it wasn't like this. I really just focused so much on school and then went straight in to a relationship. We didn't do this. I like it. A lot”
I return her smirk and put my hand a little lower on her back. I guide her over to the bar and motion for the bartender.
“Tequila?” I ask, wiggling my eyebrows.
“Not a chance, buddy. We both know I lose my clothes with tequila,” she says while laughing. “Malbec, please,” she says to the bartender.
I laugh and order a whiskey.
“So, how's life?” I ask, closing the distance between us.
I press my body into Savannah's as she leans against the bar.
“Fine.”
I can tell something is bothering her, but I don't want to put a damper on the night. Tonight, I'm going to show her a good time. She deserves to smile, all the time. The bartender slides our drinks to us and we each take ours. I clink her glass.
“To a fun night that you won't ever forget,” I say, leaning into her ear.
I brace my hand on the bar behind her, caging her in. I move my leg slightly, so it's in between hers and she gasps.
“To a night you won't ever forget,” she says winking.
I grab her hip, pulling her closer to me and kiss her lips softly. Her hand goes up to my chest and she fists the lapel of my suit jacket. She pulls me close to her, and I exhale, effectively feeling a weight lift off my shoulders. Her kiss relaxes me like a drug and I swear that I could live solely on them and nothing else. I can taste the wine on her tongue as it tangles with mine and I push my leg harder into her center. I feel her grind softly on me and I smile against her lips, knowing I finally have her where I want her. There is no way she will be able to say no to me tonight.
“Take this off,” she whispers against my lips.
“Already tryin’ to get me naked? I thought you were the one with the nudity problem,” I growl.
“The way I plan on dancin’ with you tonight, you'll be soaked in that jacket,” she says back, sassily.
“You're gonna be the soaked one, princess.”
She gasps as I crash my lips on hers again. Her fingers go to the buttons on my jacket and she pops them open, one by one. She breaks the kiss and downs the rest of her wine quickly, putting the empty glass on the bar. She pulls me by my jacket to the dance floor and turns around, pushing her ass into my crotch.
My hands instinctively go to her hips and I pull her body flush against mine. God, she feels so good. She moves her hips from side to side slowly, her right hand snaking around the back of my thigh gripping me tight. The curve of her ass continually rubs against my dick and I’m steel against her. Her other hand reaches behind my head to pull my face down to her shoulder. I kiss her collarbone as we continue to move to the music, losing ourselves in each other and the seductive rhythm.
Her body molds to mine like it was meant for me. I inhale her vanilla scent and my fingers dig into her waist, our bodies entangled together like fibers of a rope.
She turns quick in my arms and one hand goes to the back of my head, pulling it down for a kiss. Her other hand pulls on my jacket, smashing our bodies together again. I need her so bad in this moment, I'm paralyzed. She has me so wrapped up in her that I doubt my ability to ever get untangled, and I don't think I even want to.
I reach a hand down and cup her ass pulling her closer, our tongues tangling for control. She runs a hand through my hair as her mouth greedily devours mine. Her passion is so addictive. It is seeping into me, slowly and quickly at the same time, making my body drunk with lust.
“I...we should stop,” she says, pulling apart breathlessly.
I hold her close to me, pressing my body into hers as we continue to move to the music. She closes her eyes when she feels my hard length, press against her belly.
“You sure?” I ask, gripping her ass tighter.
She nods her head, smiling and lightly pushes on my chest, backing away from me. She starts to move her body, swaying back and forth to the music.
I stand back, and watch memorized as her hand runs up her body, grazing her neck and then slowly back down, past her breasts and down her stomach. The little minx is inching up the hem of her dress and I stalk back towards her, grabbing her hand and spinning her around. She laughs and puts a hand on my shoulder but keeps a distance between us. I put a hand softly on her hip and we sway to the music, both smiling like fools.
“You finally givin’ in to this Savvy?”
“Jackson…”
“Third time's the charm princess.”
“Third time?”
“Well back in the day when I kissed the shit out of you, the weddin’ and here we are now, chance number three. I swear I won’t fuck this one up.”
She smiles and leans her head on my shoulder as we continue to dance, letting our body take over the talking.
We stay that way for another five songs and then move to the bar, laughing and dripping in sweat.
“Water,” she says to the bartender.
I motion for him to make it two.
“Wanna get out of here?” I ask her, after we guzzle down our waters.
She wipes sweat from her brow and smiles.
“Sure.”
She leans forward and smacks a kiss in my lips and I reach for her waist steadying us. I feel something vibrate against our bodies and pull away from her.
“I think that's your phone.”
She reaches inside her purse and her eyebrows pinch together as she looks at the screen.
“Hey Charlie, what's up?” she asks, putting her finger in her ear to listen.
She motions for the door and I follow behind her.
“Slow down, slow down. What's goin’ on?”
We make our way to the street and Savannah stops short and I almost bump into her. She reaches for me and fists my shirt.
“We're on our way, calm down, okay. Everything is gonna be fine. Stay on the phone with me, okay? We're five minutes away, let me call an ambulance.”
Shit.
Chapter 7
Jackson
The panic written on Savannah’s face has me throwing my ticket to the valet boy, as I dial 911. She takes my phone and gives me hers and I fumble for words to calm Charlotte.
“Hey Charlotte. I have my Viper, we’ll be there in 3 minutes, okay? We’ll probably beat the ambulance. Want to tell me what's goin’ on?”
“I… I'm crampin’ really bad and spottin’. I...Gabriel isn't here. He went to Devin’s game in Florida and I...Bella’s at school I...I can’t
”
She's sobbing uncontrollably, and I try hard for words that will comfort her.
“Everythin’ is gonna be fine. We're gettin’ in the car now, stay on the phone okay?” I say, rushing around to the driver’s side.
