Riley's Pride

Page 32

by Sandra R Neeley

Daniel chuckled, mussing Remi’s hair. “You’ll understand when you get older, but I promise, it’s all happy.”

At one point Maia took Remi into the front yard, so he could wander around the parking lot for a bit and pick his own rock to take home with him. He chose two, actually, and was very proud of them both.

Later, long after the music faded, and their families had loaded into the vehicles to head to the motel they’d booked for the night, taking Cristie along with them, Riley and Maia sat on their back porch, looking out at the still decorated backyard. Each held a glass of champagne in their hand.

Riley had one arm around her, holding her close. “Are you happy, Mrs. Colter?”

  “Deliriously. Are you?”

He put his glass on the porch and turned her face to him, “So happy, Maia. Never in my life dreamed I was destined for this. You are my life.”

  “I love you, Riley.”

Riley grinned, “I love you, too, baby.” He sat back, again holding her close against him, “So, what are we going to do tonight? We have the whole night to ourselves.”

“Oh, I don’t know, maybe consummate a marriage?”

“We could. We could do that. But you know, we never do anything small, or just the way it should be done.”

“True. We do kind of take things to an extreme.”

“Exactly. So, what do you say? Let’s consummate our marriage and add to our Pride all at the same time?”

Maia sat up, looking at him with a strange expression. “Are you saying what I think you’re saying?”

“What do you think I’m saying?” he teased.

“You want a…” she couldn’t say it in case she was wrong.

“A baby? Yes. Let’s make a baby tonight. Give Cristie a little brother or sister and grow our Pride a little bigger.”

Maia grinned, “Yes! But you have to catch me first!” Maia leapt off the porch at a full run, shifting as she went, a huge golden Panther on her heels, struggling to break free of the tan linen slacks caught around his back legs.

Not long after, the calls of a Panther and the howls of a Wolf filled the cool spring air of the night. And all was right in their world.

  Over at the trailer park…

“Sounds like he caught her!” Lucas said, laughing.

“I’m happy for them,” Roman said, smiling.

  “Me, too,” Richie added.

“And did you see those Dragons?” Lazarus asked. “I mean, Dragons! Who the hell has ever met a Dragon?”

“We have,” Roman and Lucas both said.

“I hope one day we all find our Mates,” Roman said, longingly.

“Yeah, or they find us,” Libby added.

Just then the door to Lazarus’ mobile home opened, and Alex came walking over to them, “Anybody want some snacks? Maia sent some of the food home with us.”

  “Me!”

  “I do!”

  “Over here!”

Lazarus watched as the woman who’d fought so hard to save his life handed out food to his friends, where they all together sat on Lucas’ front porch listening to the calls of the night.

The smile slowly faded from his face. Maybe, just maybe, some of them had already found their Mates.

  About the Author

My name is Sandra R Neeley. I write Paranormal, SciFi and Fantasy Romances. Why, you may ask? Romance, because who doesn’t love a good romance, and the lack of reality in the story lines — because, well, normal is highly overrated, so Paranormal it is. I’m 55, I have two kids, one 32 and one 12 (yes, God does have a sense of humor), one grandchild, one husband, and a menagerie of animals. I love to cook, and I am a voracious reader, though since I started writing, I don’t get as much time to read as I once did. I am a homebody and prefer my writing/reading time to a crowd. I have had stories and fictional characters wandering around in my head for as long as I can remember. I’m a Self-Published Author, and I like it that way because I can decide what and when to write. I am by no means a formal, polished, properly structured individual and neither are my stories. But people seem to love the easy emotion and passion that naturally flow from them. A bit of a warning though, there are some “triggers” in them that certain people should avoid. I’m a firm believer that you cannot have light without the dark. You cannot fully embrace the joy and elation that my people eventually find if you do not bear witness to their darkest hours as well. So please read the warnings supplied with each of the synopses about my books before you buy them. I’ve got four series published at this time, Avaleigh’s Boys — PNR, Whispers From the Bayou — Fantasy PNR, Haven — SciFi Romance, and this one, Riley’s Pride — PNR, with several more series in process. I’m always glad to hear from my readers, so feel free to look me up and say hello.
