  Prologue

  White’s Inc.

  New York

John brought his Tesla model to an abrupt stop. He lowered the windscreen of the car and peeped outside. The building was really extraordinary with its top hiding somewhere in the clouds. Apart from being the world’s tallest company headquarters, it was also the most sophisticated and amazing fact; it was owned and run by the world’s richest man – Daniels White.

White would be here soon…. He thought to himself as he parked the car in the provided lot, put on his sunshades, came out and closed the door behind him.

White’s car, a custom-made Ferrari model drove in five minutes later.

Damn! He had just hit a guy outside. The guy simply stood up almost too quickly, apologized and walked away. Men these days … he thought to himself and continued driving. He parked the car in the lot and was about coming out when the car’s alert system began to beep with red lights.

  External attack! External attack!

Gosh! He gasped, he pulled the door’s lever to open when ...

Lockdown sequence initiated! Damn! Could this get any worse …. he thought within himself.

Self-destruct in 10! Oh yes, it did get worse. He picked up his cellphone.

Call Secretary. He said out loud.

  9! 8! 7!

Network communications have been blocked in this situation sir. The feminine voice responded.

  6! 5! 4!

Damn! There was nothing he could do. He surely wasn’t coming out of this. So this was how he was going to die; panting heavily in an air-conditioned car ….

  3! 2! 1!

  Boom!

The car exploded. In almost no time, sounds of sirens were heard with firefighters rushing into the building’s parking lot. The car was totally burnt down.

John had been in his car all the while and finally smiled to himself. He was the one who had planted the atomizer- a tiny magnetic piece which alters the security of a car and causes it to self-destruct in just 15 seconds frame.

He picked up his phone and sent a call to the boss.

  “Job done, Sir.”

This mission alone had earned him more than all he had got together combined; $150 million bucks.

  Chapter 1

  Choi Industries

  Beijing, China.

Lee Choi stood up from the chair he was sitting on and walked around the board of directors, attracting a sense of attention from each member.

He was a young man, perhaps in his early thirties but the king of an empire …. An empire of wealth. He had inherited it all from his late father who had died in some crash months ago.

He moved closer to the center table with his right hand in his pocket and the other sweeping through his hair.

“Make preparations with the budget committee, we shall begin construction of the Choi’s Hotel in the Americas, Las Vegas to be precise” he said with a distinguished Chinese accent.

“You may leave” he finally said as he moved to his chair. He sat down for a while looking around the conference room and his recent picture that hung on the wall and finally stood up satisfied.

He went outside flung by a bodyguard and went straight to his office. The door opened on recognizing him and he went straight to his chair. He sat down and picked up his phone.

He quickly located the CNN news app and opened it. He read the headline news; New York’s Business tycoon died in a car crash earlier this morning while…. That was enough.

Daniels White was finally gone. He dialed a number.

“Prepare the jet, we leave for New York now!” and then he dropped it.

  White’s Inc.

  New York

Daniels White sat down in his office and looked out at the glass that stood between himself and the outside world. He had just watched the news being broadcast.

He had deliberately come to work earlier today because of the interviews he had to work on for a new personal assistant.

And inasmuch as he felt a great deal for his driver, he was even more saddened by the loss of his custom-made $100 million Ferrari model that took him another $100 million to gold-plate it, but it didn’t squeeze out a dime of his income, he could always get a new one.

He stood up from his chair, went to the refrigerator, picked up a bottle of coke and quickly gulped its content …he would soon buy the company, it might add something to him.

He went out of his office and headed straight and then left, then down. Stop. He read the sign on the glass door… Security Squad … the door opened and he entered inside.

“So how’s the investigation going, Roger?” he said walking towards a table. Everyone was engrossed in figuring out who was behind the attempted murder on his life. That was another thing that came with his power. A whole department of more than 50 persons constituted his security team.

“Fine, Sir. We’re still analyzing the last footages captured before the explosion” Roger said using his hand to gesture on a screen.

“It’s almost an hour now, how come you haven’t got anything?” he asked again demandingly.

“Well sir, it looks like our cameras were disconnected earlier today”

“You sure? But they must have at least got his face right. Yeah and what about our satellite cameras?”

“I’m glad you asked, sir” Roger responded swiping the screen of the device on his hand causing a playback to appear on the transparent screen in mid-air.

“They did capture the man’s face but he was wearing sun shades and our results revealed the face was artificial” he continued, with a depressed face.

“Damn! That guy is really extreme” White remarked.

“You’re right, sir” a lady responded from a nearby table.

“And what do you know about this, lady?” White asked shifting his gaze to her.

  “Yeah, what do you…”

“Wait” White interrupted Roger with a wave.

“You may go on” he continued. By now the rest of the department had focused their gaze on the newbie.

“Sir, my sources weren’t able to give me this man, but I was able to conduct a biometric analysis on the last few people that entered here before the crash and only five of them do not work here”

“So we now have to deal with five people?” Roger questioned
irritably.

“Well, not necessarily sir” she said pausing. “After matching their faces only one identified with our guy and after tracing his thumbprint to our world collection database, I found this” she continued swiping in a picture of a man to the screen.

“This sir, is the man” She continued after a close look that everyone had got her point.”

“Wow! That’s impressive, so what other information do we have on this guy” Daniels asked.

“Well almost nothing, except that he recently arrived the U.S from China in a private jet under the name John Kalm”

“That doesn’t sound Chinese to me” Roger said turning back to notice more than half the squad members looking at him.

“Exactly. His face neither” she pointed out in agreement.

“So it’s all a fake” Daniels asked.

“It’s all a fake” she confirmed with a smile.

“Roger what post is this lady?” Daniels aske dafter a moment of thought.

“Nothing sir, a newbie. We’re still interviewing her sir”

“Then stop, she’s on the leaderboard now” he said moving towards the door, and then stopped.

“What’s your name, lady?” He asked.

“Nick Kay. Agent.” She stammered with a smile on her face.

“Good job, Agent Kay” he said walking out and closing the door behind him.

She went to her desk after receiving a clapping ovation and picked up her phone. She sent a quick message to someone, smiled proudly and relaxed against the chair.

  Chapter 2

  A Year Later …

  Star Hotels & Suites

  Las Vegas, U.S.A.

Nick Kay woke up feeling rather irritated than relaxed though she woke up in a fully air-conditioned luxury bedroom. One that cost a whopping $30,000 for a night. She looked by her side and then remembered why she felt that way… John was there … he always was. She had been dating him for a year now and felt like she was in hell. However, a sense of happiness swept through her mind as she realized it was only for a while; in fact, this was the last day.

“Good morning, Caitlyn” John’s greetings ended her line of thought. What more was next, she thought to herself as she stood up from the bed.

“Good morning, John. Shouldn’t you be off, you’re almost late. Remember your boss” she said, it was the only thing she could use to chase him away.

“Oh that’s true” he said jumping off the bed and rushing into the bathroom.

“Caitlyn, we would be going twenty minutes ahead of the time I earlier told you. Okay?’’

“Sure.” she responded. She had changed her name to Caitlyn to not get noticed as an agent working for White. Everything had changed; her name, identity and funny enough she had to wear contact lens … couldn’t risk raising any suspicions.

“Why are ... why do we have to go earlier?” she asked picking up her phone.

“I’ve told you Caitlyn, you’ll get all the answers to your questions very soon” he said finally. But she already knew….

She opened the messaging app she was using, quickly found Jack’s contact and wrote did you get it. Jack was White’s newly appointed personal assistant and had placed a transmitter in her ear which ensured they received every communication back at the headquarters.

A new message came in. it was from Jack. sure. I have.

  Choi Hotel

  Las Vegas.

A fine blue Maserati stopped in front of the newly completed project … Choi Hotel … owned by the very own Lee Choi- king of the Chinese business empire.

John Kalm came out of the car and quickly went to open up the door on the other side and helping Caitlyn come out. Hmmm...really gentlemanly …she thought placing her hand in his and then they moved on in.

Other different cars arrived later on including some Caitlyn had seen at White’s. she didn’t like the fact that she was being followed, she would soon end that, after all she had other places to be…

“I want to thank you all for being at the launch of my one-time imagined hotel project which shall serve as a residence for visiting Chinese tourists …” he paused.

“And other Americans who wish to stay. Also this shall be one of my very own private base amongst about thirty other existing ones in some states in the U.S” he continued.

“And now we shall open the hotel to everyone” he paused using a large scissor with the help of his wife to cut the ribbon blocking the entrance, this attracted a loud cheer from the crowd and they all moved with the slow pace he was walking with.

The huge glass door opened up allowing everyone to rush in. However, security guards were placed at strategic positions.

John and Caitlyn were still walking with each other upon every introduction, she kept on more about him and finally excused herself to use the bathroom.

She entered one of the cubicle and closed the door behind her. Time for action …she thought to herself smiling.

She picked up the tracking device which also doubled as the transmitter, put it in the toilet and flushed it. Now, she had to run. She could always make up some excuse later for her escapade. She went out of the cubicle, found the glass window, broke through it and jumped down …

“Nice work done, John. You finally did it” Lee Choi said to John giving him a handshake.

“Where’s that your girl by the way?” he asked in a teasing manner.

“Oh she excused herself earlier” he said smiling. Lee Choi walked away.

That lady… he thought moving to a nearby window close by. A car was driving away … he called her phone. It rang.

  “Where are you?”

  “Still in the restroom”

“Okay” he said hanging up and putting it in his pocket.

He tried to find Lee. They were upstairs. He looked at a painting on the wall that attracted his attention. It was a replica of the Mona Lisa by Da Vinci. He knew it was a replica because he was the middleman in getting it. But looking at it again, he noticed something was not right, it wasn’t hung the way Lee usually hung pictures, he tried adjusting it, something fell down. Damn! It was a timed explosive.

“Get Lee out of here, now!” he shouted into the transmitter in his ear. He quickly ran to get Caitlyn from the toilet.

Jack walked with his friend, Dillon, from the company outside the building.

“Is everything in place?” Jack started.

  “Yeah, when do we start?”

Jack smiled broadly and then said “Now!”. he pressed a button in his hand, the lights went off. He brought out a transmitter. “Boys, start now!”

  Boom! Boom!

A fraction of the place was already on fire, there were noises everywhere and pandemonium increased. Gunshots were heard from different corners.

“Go, go, go!” jack signaled to some undercover agents.

“Where’s Kay?” White stormed from the back of the car.

“We do not know, sir” Jack responded trying his best not to fret out.

  “What?” he stormed.

“What do you mean you don’t know? What of the tracking device?” he said more relaxed at the thought of it.

“Well sir, it looks like it was destroyed by being flushed”

“Well she’s going to have got answer for that then” Daniels said, as the driver stopped the car on his command.

“What’s that?” Daniels signaled to a jet flying.

“Sir, its Lee Choi’s” Roger responded sadly.

“It looks like we’ve got good news sir” Jack said.

  “What do you mean?”

“Well sir, for some reason, one of our men is on the jet” Jack said.

“That’s good, tell him to finish the work then” he said coming out of the car.

  Some minutes later…

  Boom!

White looked up. He had a feeling of achievement but also on of guilt but he decided to agree with the first. It made him happier. He got back into the car.

  “Thanks, guy
s. Now let’s fly to New York” He said, as the car sped off.

  Chapter 3

  Lincoln’s Memorial Hospital

  Las Vegas, U.S.A.

  Intensive Care Unit(I.C.U.)

John Kalm jerked up from the hospital bed in the ward breathing very heavily as if he had a nightmare. He looked at himself and then memories came back on how he got here, though the last thing he remembered was an explosion and then he was here. He was the only one in the room. He tried standing up, he almost couldn’t, there was so much pain. He looked at the wall clock, thank God it was a hybrid … 11:30AM

Ahh … he sighed. He was sure lucky to have woken up now. He heard voices outside, it kept on sounding nearer …

  Outside The Ward

Jack had just entered the hospital, he quickly found who had called him here.

“Dr. Wellington, you called me” he said seeming angry when he saw him.

“Yes Jack, I did. We’ve got a situation here” the doctor remarked leading him out of the hallway.

“This better be good, I cancelled my flight to get here”

“Well, I’m sorry about that sir. We just got a few survivors rushed in after the explosion and your guy is part of them” the doctor said stopping right in front of the ward and handing over a file to him.

“This isn’t possible” he paused glancing over at the pages of the file. “How could someone survive that kind of thing?”

“Well he did. He’s all yours now, I’ll try my best to cover you” the doctor said moving away.” But be fast” he shouted and vanished into another ward.

“Oh gosh!” Jack remarked and entered after getting undercover. He closed the door gently behind him.

He brought out the small 9mm pistol he had smuggled into the hospital. He went closer, aimed and then shot; but not after getting hit by John and losing the grip on the gun.

John rushed to pick it up and pointed it at its owner.

“Don’t even try to get any closer” he said, moving closer to the window. “Now, your phone, please?” he requested, stretching forth his hand which still bled a little.
