Just as sophisticated and clever as the first installment of this YA survival story. Emari is a great character with strength and confidence but also some weakness, her adventure as a rock star is quite convincingly portrayed and the dark paranormal aspects of the story unfold nicely throughout the book. Very clever and very enjoyable. James Moser The writing is just really strong. I love the realistic performance scenes. So the story is cool, the characters you want to root for, the dream sequences are completely riveting, and, most important of all, Williams is just a flat-out good writer--better than most in this genre. Rock Star is the second book in the Dream Weaver series - a young adult paranormal fiction/action adventure that's a bit on the dark side. The Onar Caphar (translated Dream Weaver) are descended from the Nephilim - the offspring of angels and humans. They are almost immortal and have the power to command memories and dreams. This suspense/thriller, written about realistic pseudo-scientific memory and dream manipulation, is set in the Pacific Northwest. A beautiful, atmospheric survival story that is sci fi meets teen fantasy meets dark romance. A YA paranormal love story receiving 5 star reviews from readers of all ages, and a bronze medal award winner in the Readers Favorite International Book Awards. The story of Emari Sweet, Nickolas Benedetti and Sabre James was inspired by authors of great books to read for girls and women like Richelle Mead, Stephenie Meyer, Lisa McMann and Maggie Stiefvater. Rock Star is the second book in the Dream Weaver series by the talented Su Williams. While I hadn't read the first book, it was easy enough to grasp the ideas once I read into the first few chapters. The writing style was unique and different, first showing us flashes of dreams and then broadening to showcase whole passages and moments. It was both captivating and something that I haven't really experienced lately. Emari has been living (dreaming?) her life as a rock star, but as always, life does come back to haunt her. She is still reeling from Nick and how he left things, and there is a lot of interesting back and forth between the two. Sabre is one of the titular Dream Weavers and it is his weave that Emari has been living in, and he and Nick are at odds. However, the three need to team up in order to stand up to Thomas and William, who are causing all kinds of trouble. I love the kind of pseudo-scientific supernatural quality that Williams employs regarding the manipulation of memories. There was an Inception-esque quality to the story, but enough unique ideas and cool thoughts that made it really shine on its own. The mind is a mysterious place, and dreams and memories are one of the remaining types of mystery left on Earth. Williams continues to tap into this in her series and does so with aplomb and skill. Emari is a very genial character, and she has the type of clever mind that makes you really respect a character as well as like her. William's writing style is a lot stronger than many in the YA genre so this was quite the pleasure to read. From the AuthorRock Star was glorious fun to research. I was burdened with the grueling task of enjoying various rock shows and interviewing band members from Witchburn and Hell's Belles. The local historical research was a bit of fun too, and added to the dimension of the book. As well, I studied dreaming and brain waves, and the effects of PTSD on survivors of traumatic events to bring realism to the character Emari.
