She also manages to be quite a prolific author. She has published two previous novels, the thrillers Where Shadows Burn and The Dead of Midnight, as well as three collections of poetry, Necessary Crimes, Lunar Wake, and Latent Heat, which won the McNally Robinson Book of the Year Award in 1998. She also wrote and performed the spoken word CD Rush Hour. Catherine now teaches English and Creative Writing at the University of Winnipeg, but admits that in the past she has toiled as a leather worker, clam digger, doughnut-shop waitress, convenience-store manager, and rather unsuccessful carpet cleaner, none of which required a Ph.D. She lives in St. Boniface in a little white house near the Seine River.
