Clint Adams was just marking time is Festus, Wyoming when he had a run-in with the biggest rancher in the county. Vance Restin had no respect for anyone, but when he realized that Clint was the Gunsmith, he tried to hire him for a special job − escorting the rancher's daughter to Sacramento.
