Scarborough Fair
by Chris Scott Wilson
When America needed a hero, John Paul Jones stood up. During the War of Independence, at the battle of Flamborough Head in 1779, commanding a converted East Indiaman, he tackled a brand new British frigate within sight of the very shores of England, a nation whose proud boast was its invincible navy. His courage, grit and determination encouraged his adopted homeland to throw off its shackles and seek a bold new future. And John Paul Jones became America’s first great naval hero.
