The Housewife Is an Immortal Cultivator

As Lei Wu finished reading the message, she realized that she had made an incredibly huge blunder. The little note that was inscribed in the boulder was signed by one of the elders in her sect, so she knew that it was the real deal. That elder also probably wrote about it in one of her monthly reports, but she didn't bother to read anything that arrived on her table since she was too busy trying to break through to the Divine Realm.
Lang Jie already had one foot raised forward when Lei Wu had warned him. As he listened to Lei Wu's words, he felt himself slowly losing his sense of balance, so he immediately stepped forward.
As soon as his foot landed on the jade tile in front of him, the tile sunk due to his weight. Clicking sounds started echoing throughout the corridor.
"I told you to stop!", Lei Wu angrily reprimanded Lang Jie.
"I-I'm sorry! I couldn't keep my balance!", Lang Jie immediately apologized, but both of them knew that they had no time to continue their squabble.
The both of them stayed still as the clicking sound continued on. They were both being wary, carefully listening and watching the area around them, looking for any sort of change that was coming.
Moments later, the clicking sound suddenly stopped. The jade tiles from the entrance all the way to the tip of the path split open, which made Lang Jie and Lei Wu fall to an unknown area.
The drop wasn't very high, The two of them dropped down to a small room that was surrounded by dirt. Although they only fell a few feet, the height of the wall was still too high for them to just reach and climb out alone.
Both of them patted the dirt off their clothes. Lei Wu looked up and saw that they could easily climb out if Lang Jie gets on her shoulders.
"Come, get on.", Lei Wu kneeled down and patted on her shoulders. Lang Jie immediately understood her plan and made his way towards her.
As soon as Lang Jie had placed one leg over her shoulder, they heard another clicking sound coming from above them. The two of them looked up and saw the ceiling open up, revealing metal spikes that were slowly descending towards them.
"W-what is this?! An Indiana Jonas movie?!", Lang Jie couldn't help but voice out his thoughts as he saw the incredibly dangerous ceiling slowly moving down to crush them and violently gut them with the spikes.
Lei Wu knew that if Lang Jie got on her shoulders now, he would probably be impaled by the spikes. She looked around for another way to escape the deadly situation they were in and saw a door on one of the walls. On the door, a message was written.
"Show me the willpower that comes not from your cultivation, but your heart, and I will open the way."
Lei Wu immediately ran to the door and tried to ram her body towards it with full force. As her body collided with the door, she felt a few of her bones crack as she bounced back. The door didn't even budge.
Although she was in immense pain, Lei Wu was still focused on the situation. She got up and started pushing the door with all her might.
"Lang Jie! Come, help me!", Lei Wu shouted at the other person that was trapped with her, who immediately came to help her push the door.
As both of them pushed with all their might, a projection suddenly appeared in front of the both of them.
"Lei Wu! How dare you disconnect the projection?!", Xue Yan's angry voice echoed throughout the room.
Although Xue Yan's angry face was right before them, they were busy pouring all of their strength to pushing the door in front of them. They couldn't afford to spare the energy to talk to Xue Yan.
As the spiky ceiling slowly made its way towards them, Lei Wu shouted as she exerted the last of her strength to push the door open.
"Mm… push harder!"
CHAPTER 30 – “THE BIRTH OF A NEW FAMILY”
Lang Jie and Lei Wu pushed as hard as they could in order to avoid their imminent death. As the spiked ceiling slowly descended towards them, they poured all of their strength towards the door, but it didn't even seem to budge.
As both of them exerted the last bit of strength they had, they both collapsed to the ground. Although Lei Wu was a cultivator, her injury made it hard for her to properly exert her strength. Lang Jie was only a mortal, and most of his days were spent working on a desk job, which meant that his body wasn't very strong.
*BOOM*
A large explosion came from the entrance of the tomb. Chunks of rock flew everywhere as the large boulder shattered.
"Lei Wu! How dare you endanger the life of this Venerable One's husband?!"
Xue Yan's loud, angry voice came from the tomb's entrance. She saw the ceiling descending towards an open space in the ground where she felt Lang Jie and Lei Wu's presence. The gap between the descending ceiling and the ground was no longer enough for Xue Yan to fit in, so she moved towards it and placed one hand underneath it, completely stopping the descent.
"Darling! Are you okay?", Xue Yan asked her husband with a voice filled with worry. She effortlessly lifted the ceiling back up with the hand she used to stop it. The mechanism that controlled the ceiling seemed to be going crazy as it tried its best to resist Xue Yan's strength, but Xue Yan couldn't even feel anything.
Constant clicking could be heard above the ceiling, which became faster and faster the higher that Xue Yan lifted it up. After it was lifted to a certain point, the clicking stopped. Xue Yan didn't feel any resistance from the ceiling anymore, so she removed her hand. The spiked ceiling was now completely still.
Xue Yan hurriedly moved inside and saw the tired Lang Jie and Lei Wu. She saw that Lei Wu was injured, but she completely ignored her. Instead, she ran towards her husband, who was covered in dirt and sweat. Lang Jie felt relieved seeing his wife make it just in time to save the day.
"I'm okay, honey. I'm just a little tired. You should tend to Lei Wu first since she must've injured herself earlier.", Lang Jie told Xue Yan and glanced towards Lei Wu, who looked away as soon as Lang Jie mentioned her name.
Lei Wu's qi started to flow back into her body, slowly healing the injuries she sustained from ramming her body to the door. Although she was fine, she could feel Xue Yan's killing intent being directed straight towards her, which made her feel fear beyond her wildest dreams.
Lang Jie noticed that something was wrong with the two women. His wife was glaring at Lei Wu like she wanted to kill her, and Lei Wu was averting Xue Yan's gaze while cold sweat ran down through her body as she trembled in fear.
He thought that he was partly responsible for the situation. Although Lei Wu was being reckless and forcefully dragged him to the tomb, he knew that she was only doing it for the sake of her master, who she truly treasured in her heart. Lang Jie was also the one who was clumsy enough to lose his balance, causing the trap to activate.
"H-honey… don't be mad at Lei Wu! She tried her best to get me out of the situation. Besides, she only wanted to make sure that I was serious about you! Right, Lei Wu?", Lang Jie tried to calm his wife down, but even his words didn't seem to be effective enough to soothe Xue Yan's rage.
"I'll take your words into consideration as this Venerable One will exact punishment towards this brat.", Xue Yan's voice was still filled with anger. She didn't even bother to change the way she spoke in front of Lang Jie, which made Lang Jie realize that this was the angriest he's ever seen his wife become.
Xue Yan pointed a finger towards Lei Wu, who was still looking away as she laid on the ground. Lei Wu already knew this was going to be the outcome, regardless of whether or not Lang Jie could clear the tomb, so she was already prepared for it.
Xue Yan concentrated her qi towards the tip of her finger. She was about to fire the concentrated qi towards Lei Wu's dantian in order to cripple her cultivation, but as she was about to do it, Lang Jie stepped forward and stood in between the two.
"Step aside darling… This Venerable One has to show this brat the consequences of defying my orders.", Xue Yan told Lang Jie as she dispersed the qi on her fingertip.
"If you harm Lei Wu, then… then…", Lang Jie was feeling desperate, so
he tried his best to think up of some way to stop his wife.
Earlier, back when Lei Wu had just arrived to visit their home, he knew that she was someone special to his wife. He has never seen Xue Yan look at someone else that way except towards himself and Lei Wu, so he knew that Lei Wu also had an important place in Xue Yan's heart. Especially since Xue Yan even considered Lei Wu as her daughter back then.
Lang Jie wanted to preserve their relationship, no matter what the cost. After all, his wife's family is also his family.
As he continued thinking of things that were able to threaten his all-powerful wife, he remembered that there was indeed something that would be able to leave a dent on his wife.
"Then… I'll invite Yang Wei and Jane to go on a one-week vacation with us…", Lang Jie muttered the words that even he himself had difficulty voicing out. He felt afraid of the sheer power of the blinding and tiring love between Yang Wei and Jane, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Xue Yan felt a bit threatened as she heard her husband's warning, but it was still not enough to stop her heart from wanting to punish Lei Wu. Although Yang Wei and Jane were indeed annoying to deal with, she didn't mind it as long as she could have some alone time with her husband to heal the wounds. Plus, it's a vacation, so the wounds from being with the annoying couple would heal fast.
"Please, step aside darling…", Xue Yan told her husband as gently as she could.
"Wait! I'm not done!", Lang Jie knew what his wife was thinking. Although most of his time after marriage was spent at work, he could still more-or-less read Xue Yan like a book. He knew that it wasn't threatening enough for her, so he had to up the ante.
"We'll stay in the same room with them for the entire trip! And we'll both suffer for an entire week!", Lang Jie managed to finish his warning, but it took a lot of his vitality in order to do so. As the words he wanted to say fully left his mouth, he collapsed to the ground as he just realized the immense weight of his threat.
Both Xue Yan and Lang Jie were barely able to scrape by being around the annoying couple for 14 hours. If it was a week, and if they had to stay in the same room as them the entire time, then losing their lives due to the sheer cringe and embarrassment they would feel wouldn't be out of the question anymore.
Xue Yan flinched and took a step back as her husband's words filled her ears. Even just hearing about it caused her heart to tremble from the fear that Lang Jie's warning brought.
Lei Wu looked at the two of them and was completely clueless as to what they were talking about, but she felt that it was something that could save her, so she continued to stay silent and pretended to turn a deaf ear towards their conversation.
"D-darling… are you really willing to go that far just to stop me…?", Xue Yan took a step back as the image of Yang Wei and Jane together inflicted massive mental damage to her.
"T-that's right!", Lang Jie responded. He was able to recover before Xue Yan, which meant that he had the upper hand in their exchange of words.
"You shouldn't hurt Lei Wu! In fact, I want you to forgive her and forget whatever happened today!", Lang Jie continued pressing his wife.
Xue Yan looked at Lang Jie with a shocked expression on his face.
"D-darling… could it be…? Do you want to take Lei Wu as a mistress?!", Xue Yan asked out of shock. Her complex thoughts, along with the mental damage that she suffered earlier, caused her brain to jump to another huge misunderstanding.
"W-what?! No! Of course not!", Lang Jie was baffled as he had no idea how his wife was able to reach that conclusion.
"I know that you cherish Lei Wu. She's the first person that I've seen you hold some kind of affection for, and I don't want you to lose anyone that's dear to you. And…", Lang Jie glanced over to Lei Wu, who also happened to look at him. As the both of them locked eyes, Lei Wu knew that Lang Jie was trying to ask her permission to say something that she might not want to hear.
At first, she thought of rejecting whatever it was that he wanted to do, but the look of determination on Lang Jie's eyes made her think otherwise. She nodded towards Lang Jie, who gave her a smile in response.
Lang Jie's smiling face made Lei Wu feel nostalgic. As she looked at his confident and reliable face, she realized that it was a similar look that her master used to give her, back when she was young. As her memories started to resurface, she smiled as she felt a warm and comfortable feeling envelope her heart.
Lang Jie confidently faced Xue Yan. With Lei Wu's permission, his worry of offending anyone with his words completely disappeared as he prepared to mutter the words that were forbidden just a while ago.
"And… she's… she's our daughter!"
Although Lei Wu prepared for the worst, the weight of Lang Jie's words were just too heavy for her to bear. She shook her head and covered her face out of embarrassment.
Xue Yan, however, was moved by her husband's words. She immediately ceased all of the hostile feelings she had for Lei Wu. After all, how could she harm someone that both she and her husband already considered to be family? She had always wanted to bear Lang Jie's child, but due to the massive gap between her husband's and her own lifespan, she decided that it wasn't the best thing to do. Although it wasn't exactly what she wanted, the idea was more-or-less there, so she decided that it was good enough.
She ran towards Lang Jie and Lei Wu and enveloped the two with a massive hug.
"My very own family…", Xue Yan couldn't help but voice out her thoughts due to the immense happiness she felt. She had always dreamed of holding Lang Jie and their children tightly in her arms.
Lang Jie hugged Xue Yan back. Lei Wu felt reluctant to do the same, but as she felt her master's soothing presence, her reluctance quickly disappeared as she wrapped her arms around Xue Yan.
The three of them were silent as they enjoyed the first family-like atmosphere they've felt in a while.
A few moments later, the three of them finally let go of each other.
"I'm sorry master… I shouldn't have doubted the love between you and Lang Jie…", Lei Wu was the first to speak up. She knew that she owed an apology to the two and immediately paid back her debt. Although Lang Jie didn't finish her test, he already showed his manliness to her, making her accept him as a worthy husband for her master. She did indeed think that there was still a lot of room for improvement, but as long as she was still around, she will try her best to guide him into becoming a better husband for her master.
Lei Wu thought that her apology would make Xue Yan's good mood become even better, but as she looked up towards her master's face, she saw that her words seemed to have the opposite effect.
Xue Yan's smile turned into a frown as she listened to Lei Wu. Both Lang Jie and Lei Wu wondered what was wrong, but after thinking about it for a while, Xue Yan let out a sigh filled with dismay.
"We are family, right? You shouldn't call us the way you did earlier. Instead, call us the way a daughter would call her parents.", Xue Yan revealed the source of her irritation.
Lei Wu felt conflicted due to Xue Yan's words. She felt happy that Xue Yan wanted to be her mother, but for the father's side…
"F-forgive me, mother…", Lei Wu immediately stood up and bowed towards Xue Yan, whose frowning face turned into a satisfied one.
Lei Wu stood in silence, preparing herself to swallow her pride as she knew what was going to happen next.
"Now, now… There's still someone else you should be apologizing to. Right, darling?", Xue Yan happily asked her husband, who was contented enough watching Xue Yan and Lei Wu's heartwarming exchange.
"A-ah, you don't have to! I'm fine!", Lang Jie immediately rejected the idea of Lei Wu apologizing to him. From the short time they've been together, his mental image of Lei Wu is one that's filled with pride that comes from her strength. Lang Jie didn't want her pride to be tarnished just to please Xue Yan's palate, but he knew that he didn't have the authority to decide that.
"Nonsense! You're her father! And she put you in
danger earlier, so you deserve an apology for that!", Xue Yan tossed aside Lang Jie's feelings and excitedly looked at Lei Wu, who was now trembling due to the fact that she's about to lose a piece of herself with the words that she was about to say a few moments later.
"F-for… forgive me… Lang-"
The suffocation that came from forcing out an apology from her own mouth made her almost slip up. Xue Yan's eyes lit up as she heard how Lei Wu was about to address Lang Jie, so she swallowed back the name that she was about to say and closed her eyes. She conjured an extremely strong male cultivator that was on par with Xue Yan in her imagination. One that she could look up to, unlike her master's mortal husband.
