To Boston, With Love

“L ook baby, which ones?” Boss asked as he talked on facetime with Indigo. He turned the camera around and showed her the two pairs of shoes that he was interested in.

“Neither. They’re both ugly. Where are you?” Indigo inquired.

  “In Foot Locker,” he replied.

“Okay, I’m coming in a minute,” Indigo said.

“Come on, Indie. You said that twenty minutes ago. That’s just why I left without you,” Boston argued.

He hated when Indigo went into Bath and Body Works. She was obsessed with their plug-ins and she sat there and smelled them all one by one like she didn’t already know what they smelled like. They had them on sale and that made it even worse. He left her in there and went to look for a pair of shoes. As usual, he couldn’t even pick out anything for himself without his wife’s help.

“I’m coming baby. I’m in line right now. I’m next, look,” Indigo said as she turned the camera around to show him.

“Alright, I’ll wait then,” he replied before he hung up. He looked at a few more shoes and some t-shirts.

“Well, hello there stranger,” a female said while slipping her hand around Boss’ waist.

He grabbed her hand tight and removed it before he spun around to see who felt comfortable enough to touch him. He frowned when he saw Lacey because they weren’t even on it like that. The last time he saw or talked to her was when he and Indigo broke up for that one week. She had been calling him like crazy until he told her to chill.

“Keep your hands to yourself my baby,” Boss said as he turned back around, dismissively.

“Seriously Boston?” Lacey said, sounding like she was offended.

“Girl, that’s Boston who you always be talking about,” another chick walked up and said.

Boss turned back around and looked at the group of girls who Lacey obviously was with. He had never seen them before but he studied each one of them like a book.

“Yeah, that’s his funny acting ass,” Lacey replied with a giggle.

“Girl, he’s cute. Handle your business boo. We’re going next door to Sephora,” one of them laughed while walking away.

“Did I do something wrong Boston? I mean, you just dismissed me for no reason,” Lacey said.

“I’m married sweetheart. It was nothing personal. Everybody got dismissed for my wife,” Boss replied.

Lacey saw the wedding band on his finger, but she still didn’t believe it. It wasn’t that long ago that she stayed the night at his house with him. There was no way that he got married that fast. He didn’t even want to be in a steady relationship, so she seriously doubted that.

“You don’t have to lie Boston. If you didn’t want to fuck with me no more, that’s all you had to say,” Lacey argued, right as Indigo walked over to them.

“That’s a damn shame,” Boss laughed when he saw the two huge bags that Indigo was carrying. He took them from her as she looked at a few pairs of shoes.

“What’s up Indigo? It’s been a while,” Lacey said, since they seemed to act like she was invisible.

Indigo was cute, as usual, in a denim romper that hugged her curves. She had a pair of Gucci slides on her feet with the crossbody bag to match. Her hair was done up in a curly bob with a side part. She was beautiful without even trying to be.

“Hey girl. Yes, it’s been a minute,” Indigo replied with a smile.

“Can I talk to you for a minute Boston?” Lacey asked.

“Is this bitch slow or what? What part of I’m married don’t you understand? Talk to her, baby. Maybe she’ll listen to you,” Boss fumed.

“Yeah, he won’t be doing too much talking without his wife,” Indigo replied as she held up her ring finger and showed off her huge wedding ring.

Lacey was stunned into silence. True, Boss never led her on in any way. He told her from day one what he did and didn’t want. Lacey wanted more, so she created a relationship in her head and ran with it. Still, it was a slap in the face to know that he had married the one woman who knew him best. Lacey had more questions than answers but she knew that she would never get anything from either of them. They didn’t really do social media, so she would have had no way of knowing had she not just run into them. She wanted to know where Justice was and what happened with him and Indigo. Lacey knew his number and she planned to use it soon.

“Oh, well congrats,” Lacey said with a forced smile.

“I like these baby. What do you think?” Indigo asked as she held up a shoe for Boston to see.

Lacey refused to stand there and be ignored, so she walked away in search of her friends. She refused to cry over another man, but she was hurt.

“Let’s go Indie,” Boss said while grabbing her hand.

  “Why? What’s wrong?” Indigo questioned.

“I’ll explain it later,” he replied as they walked away.

They didn’t leave the mall right away and Indigo was confused. She knew that Boston had a reason for whatever he did, so she remained silent as she followed his lead. When Boss told her to go get the car while he stayed behind, she was really lost. Still, she did what he told her to with no questions asked.

“Yeah baby. Where are you?” Indigo asked when she picked up the phone.

“Come get me from by the food court and get on the passenger side,” Boss replied.

Indigo drove around to the food court and pulled up in front. She hopped on the passenger side right as Boss was walking out. He sat there for a minute before he started driving. He knew that Indigo had questions, so he filled her in as he drove away behind another car.

Indigo pulled from the blunt twice before she passed it over to Boston. They were both silent, lost in their own thoughts as they watched and waited. They had been parked outside of the house for over an hour, but they were patient.

“Let’s do it baby,” Boss said, breaking their lengthy silence.

  “Do what?” Indigo asked.

“Move into the house,” he replied.

“Are you sure Boston? I don’t want us to do anything that we’re both not in agreement with,” she noted.

“I’m good with it. You made a lot of good points. We already own it and it’s in perfect condition. It just needs a new paint job, inside and out, but that’s nothing. It’s big enough for us to raise some babies. Besides that, some of our best memories were made there,” Boss said, making her smile.

Irvin didn’t think it was a good idea, but Indigo assured him that she would be okay. Living there would make her feel close to her mother and she knew that’s what Precious would have wanted. Raising kids in the house that she and Boston grew up in would mean so much to them both. That house was the place where they lost their virginity to each other. They had their first kiss there and it was in that house that they swore that they would be husband and wife one day. The sentimental value was priceless.

“I can’t wait to decorate,” Indigo replied, right as the front door to the house that they were watching opened.

“You ready to do this baby?” Boss asked as he looked over at her.

“I been ready,” Indigo replied with a frown.

They jumped out of the car and approached the unknown woman who walked out and sat on the steps. She had a bag of crawfish in her hand that she thought she was about to enjoy. When she looked up and saw them, recognition set in and she got up, ready to run back inside to call her sisters. Indigo didn’t even give her a chance to make it to the door. She pulled her down off the porch and started wailing on her. Boss stood back and watched his wife put in work, when the front door opened and two other women ran out.

“The fuck!” one of them yelled when she saw her sister being manhandled.

“Wait your turn love, you’re next,” Boss promised her.

Boss recognized all three of them from the video that they saw at Hank’s shop. They were the same chicks who were in the store with Lacey a few days ago. Boss studied them for a while until he remembered exactly where he’d seen them before. The t
allest one was sporting the face scar that she got as a result of Indigo cutting her.

He was done shopping after that. He discreetly followed them around the mall while Indigo went to get the car. They followed them to the same house that they were at now, and Boss was pissed. He had been blaming West when it was Lacey the entire time. He didn’t think that Lacey had it in her, but she had him fooled. Indigo said that she wanted a one on one with each of them and her man made it happen. He didn’t give a fuck that they were at somebody else’s house. He would put a bullet in everybody behind his wife.

“Julius!” one of the women yelled. “Erin is out here fighting.”

Erin wasn’t one of the women who Indigo fought with but she was just as guilty. She was the one yelling for them to get her keys and she broke Indigo’s window when they didn’t. Lacey told them that Indigo rode around with the hair in her trunk and that’s all that Erin wanted. Lacey wanted Indigo to get a beat down, so her sisters handled that.

“You good baby?” Boss asked as he walked over to his wife. She was done with round one and she was gearing up for the next battle. He gave Indigo some water and waited until she caught her breath.

“What’s going on?” Julius asked when he came to the door and saw his girlfriend getting up from the ground.

Erin’s hair was all over her head and her shirt was ripped, exposing her bra. She was screaming obscenities through her blood-filled mouth and he didn’t know what was going on. She wasn’t stupid though. She was talking her shit as she made it back up the stairs to safety.

“They came here to fight, but I don’t have time for this shit. I have to go to work,” one of Erin’s sister’s said.

“Oh shit, well, we don’t want you to be late for that. She gotta go baby, so she can be next,” Boss said, as Indigo hit her instead of the tallest one who she really wanted.

“Come on man. We can talk about this like adults. It don’t even have to be all this,” Julius pleaded as he walked over to Boss. He wasn’t a street nigga and he didn’t do drama of any kind. He was a working man who didn’t even smoke or drink. His life was peaceful and that’s how he wanted it to stay.

“I don’t have a muthafucking thing to say to you and none of these hoes. They should have thought about that shit before they jumped my wife and stole all her shit. And if you take another step towards me, you gon’ be breathing through your forehead,” Boss warned as he pulled out his gun and cocked it.

“What did they steal from her? I’ll pay you back whatever it cost,” Julius said, trying his best to diffuse the situation.

Just then, he remembered Erin coming inside with a bunch of bins filled with hair. She threw the bins away and had all the hair in a garbage bag in their hallway closet. She was talking about selling it online, but she never got around to it. She did use some of it to get her own hair done but that was about it. He ran inside and grabbed the garbage bag from their closet, hoping to end the madness. He heard her and Lacey talking about some hair and now he knew what they were talking about.

“Are you fucking serious right now?” Erin fumed when she saw him come back outside. Julius was weak as fuck, and she lost all respect for him at that point. Even if she wanted to feign innocence, he had just sold her out.

“I don’t need all this mess around my house. I don’t know why you let my sister drag you into her bullshit. Lacey is always in some mess behind a man,” he replied as he sat the bag down near Boston’s feet.

By then, Indigo was done with sister number two and she was drinking some more water, preparing for round three. The tallest sister who she really wanted refused to wait around for Indigo to hit her. Her plan was to hit Indigo first and get one up on her. She tried to sneak around and go behind her, but Boss was already on it. He used the butt of his gun and hit her across the back of her head, knocking her to the ground. She yelped in pain as blood ran down her neck.

“I hope you didn’t think I gave a fuck about you being a woman. For my wife, I knock bitches out too,” Boss fumed as he looked down at her.

“Stupid ass bitch. Now, you gon’ have a scar in the back to match the one in the front,” Indigo spat as she kicked her in the side.

Boss grabbed the garbage bag that was filled with her hair and headed back to the car. Erin and Julius were fussing as they pulled off, making Boston shake his head in disgust. Now, he knew what was up. The dude was Lacey’s brother and Erin was obviously his girl. The only thing that baffled him was what issues Lacey had with Indigo. He could see her being upset about them being married now, but the fight happened long before that. Boss didn’t have time to dwell on all that. Indigo had been too quiet and he needed to know what was on her mind.

“What’s up baby? You straight?” Boss asked.

  “Fuck no!” Indigo snapped.

  “Why? What’s wrong?” Boss inquired.

“Getting at them was cool, but that bitch Lacey is who I really want now. She’s the one who started all this shit,” Indigo answered.

She never knew that Lacey had a problem with her, but it was all good. She could have come at Indigo on her own instead of sending some non-fighting hoes to do it for her. Indigo knew that they didn’t have no hands when the fight was one on one. Besides a few scratches, it didn’t even looked like she’d been in a fight.

“Say no more love. That hoe can get it too. You know your man got you,” Boss assured her.

“I didn’t even know that she had a brother,” Indigo noted.

“Neither did I but he’s lame as fuck. Ole girl need to buy some seeds and grow herself a real nigga. Her dick is bigger than his,” Boss said, making her laugh.

“See, you would have been going after West for nothing,” Indigo replied.

“I still don’t trust his ass though. That nigga been talking greasy like a lil bitch. Talk is pointless, so I’ll give him a pass as long as he stays out of my way. Now Justice, he’s another story.” Boss frowned.

  “Boston,” Indigo sighed.

“We’re all good baby, I promise,” he replied while leaning over to kiss her lips.

He didn’t want to discuss her ex with her because he would never lie to his wife. Indigo wanted him to let it go, but that wasn’t happening. Justice must have snuck out of his house in the middle of the night because the place was empty when he went there a few days ago. The maintenance man was doing some work in there, but he didn’t know anything about the previous tenants. It was all good though. Boss knew that he would catch up with him eventually. Until then, he was enjoying life with his wife. Things were looking up for them and he was happy. Therapy was helping him out in ways that he never imagined. Seeing Kissy was still hard but he was trying to do better. His relationship with his father was getting stronger and it felt good to have someone else to talk to.

He and Indigo had finally signed up for GED classes and it wasn’t as bad as he thought it would be. She was still selling hair and working at both bars but he was about to put a stop to that. Now that they had decided to move into the house that they owned, he was ready for her to relax and push out a few babies for him to spoil.

“M arried!” Justice yelled. “Who told you that?”

“They did. I saw them at the mall recently and they told me. Showed me their rings and everything,” Lacey said as she drove home from work.

Erin was blowing her line up but she would just have to wait. She was on the phone with Justice, filling him in on the newlyweds. Justice sounded just as shocked as she was and Lacey understood why. Lacey had been calling him for days and he never answered. It wasn’t until she left a message that he called her back.

“All this time man. She had me thinking that nigga Boss was nothing more than a friend. Ain’t no way in hell would I have been cool with him always being around if I suspected anything,” Justice swore.

“People used to always say it, but I didn’t believe it. It wasn’t until that night that you came there to fix her flat tire that I found out that all the rumors were true,
 Lacey said.

“What do you mean?” Justice asked.

He shook his head angrily, as Lacey ran everything down to him. Although they didn’t know each other very well, he wished she would have told him something then. Unlike her, Justice wasn’t the type to sweep shit under the rug. He would have confronted the situation a long time ago. He probably would have tried to work it out with Indigo but he would have let her know that he knew something. He felt like a damn fool to know that something was going on right under his nose and he had no knowledge of it.

“I suspected that something was going on in Miami. Boston never slept in the room with me the entire time that we were there. I know he didn’t sleep in the room with Draco or her cousin. Indigo was the only other person there that he knew. He was recording her while she danced and everything. It’s fucked up how they played us though,” she rambled.

“Yeah, but it’s funny that you mentioned Miami because that’s when I started to notice the changes in her,” Justice admitted.

Indigo acted like she barely wanted him to touch her. The sex started to seem forced and she never complained about going without like she used to. Justice just assumed that she was fed up with him working so much. He never imagined that she was getting her needs fulfilled elsewhere.

“I asked her if you’ve ever had a problem with their friendship and she swore that you didn’t,” Lacey said.

“I didn’t have a problem with it because I had no reason to. I can’t lie and say that I don’t still love Indigo but I regret wasting so many years of my life on her for nothing. I let her take me out of character and no woman is worth my sanity. I was wrong for putting my hands on her but I was hurt,” Justice admitted.

Lacey rolled her eyes because she didn’t agree. She was happy that Erin and her sisters beat Indigo’s ass and she wished that they could do it all over again. Indigo used to be the main one smiling in her face and inviting her places. She felt betrayed too, so she understood how Justice felt.

“Well, my sister’s boo was one of his good friends at one time. He said that Indigo and Boston were in a relationship once before. I think it’s mighty funny how they forgot to mention that bit of information.”
