Lifeguard’s Thick Fiancée

I feel his lips press against mine. When he kisses me, I always feel so amazing; so captivated by his touch… His warm, loving touch. I never trusted guys before. When I’d gone on dates with guys, they always seemed like they only had one thing on their minds, and they always seemed like I was just one of the many girls they met.

But Luke? He looks at me like I’m some kind of buried treasure; like I’m something he’s been searching for all his life. And I’d be lying if I said the feeling wasn’t mutual. He’s my dream guy, literally – except he’s even better than the dream.

“I’m so happy I met you,” I say.

“I’m so happy too. I can’t believe how lucky I am. I never thought I’d meet the girl for me. I thought I’d be alone forever.”

  “Why me?” I ask.

He shrugs. “The chemistry is just so wild,” he says. “That’s all I know to say. You feel it?”

“Yes,” I smile. “Of course I do.”

“I’ve never felt anything like it before. It’s amazing.”

  “Neither have I.”

“You’re crying…” He says, reaching up and wiping a tear from my eye.

I didn’t even notice it, but he’s right. I can feel the tears start to stream down my face then. But I’m not crying because I’m sad, and luckily he knows that. I’m crying because I’ve never felt happier in my life. I’m crying because I’ve finally met my Mr. Right.

“Oh, sweetheart. You’re always so dang beautiful,” he says, and then he kisses me again.

  Chapter Nine – Luke

When the police arrive, I’ve got to give them a lengthy statement. Anna does too, although I wish she didn’t, because I don’t want her to have to deal with any of this bull crap. But since she was the “hostage”, technically, that means she’s got to answer some questions and give them a detailed description of how things played out.

Luckily, things played out rather quickly, so they don’t question her for too long, and when they’ve got all they need, they head on their ways and leave us be. They take Robert Jones with him, handcuffed and seated in the back of their cruiser, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t happy to see him go.

I’m ready to for that chapter of my life to be over, and I’m ready for this new chapter to begin.

I pull myself back together and find my captain. He’s standing by the water, hands on his hips, and when he sees me he turns and shakes his head with a laugh.

“Can’t get rid of that prick, can you?”

“He’s just disturbed,” I say. “But I think I’ve just seen the end of him. I don’t think he’s going to come around anymore.”

“We’ll see about that,” he says. “You can take the rest of the day off. Full pay. I’d feel bad asking you to stay here after that. Take your lady friend for ice cream, or something,” he laughs.

  “Thanks, Cap,” I say.

I take Anna by the hand and we walk together towards my truck. We get inside and start making out. I didn’t plan on it, but it seems like when the two of us find ourselves in private (or semi-private) spaces, all we want to do is make out with each other.

Her lips are so soft and full against mine. Her tongue slides into my mouth as my eyes roll back in my head. I feel like I’ve died and gone to heaven when I kiss her. Every time it’s the same. Every time it’s incredible.

She wraps her hand around my head and digs her fingers into my hair. “You’re so freaking handsome,” she says.

  “You’re so gorgeous.”

“You’re starting to make me feel like I’m not so bad,” she laughs softly.

“That’s the understatement of the year.”

  “You’re so good to me…”

“I always will be,” I say.

We drive down the highway, back towards the West Side of LA. We pull off on Sunset Boulevard and a valet parks my truck. From there we walk into the best Italian restaurant on this side of Los Angeles County. The smell of marinara and pasta is a welcoming scent when we enter the joint, and the waiter leads us to my usual table in the back of the room by the window.

“Good of you to join us again, sir,” he says, handing us the menus and then reciting the daily specials.

Anna orders lasagna, while I order spaghetti with meatballs. I’m so hungry after this whole ordeal that I could eat anything, but spaghetti with meatballs sounds more than fine. What would be better than that, however, is the girl across from me.

I know from the day before that she’s much tastier than anything on this menu.

It’s like she can read my thoughts. She smiles at me and says, “What?” In a playful voice.

  “Nothing,” I grin.

“What are you thinking about?” She asks me teasingly.

“Just thinking how gorgeous you are. And how lucky I am.”

“Yeah?” She beams. “Why are you so lucky?”

“Because you are the most gorgeous girl I’ve ever seen. And I can’t believe I’m lucky enough to have met you.”

“I’m the lucky one,” she grins. “You saved my life.”

  “Just doing my job.”

“You’re so humble,” she looks out the window and her eyes get all moist. “I still can’t believe it. I would have been gone if it weren’t for you.”

“Don’t think about that, sweetheart,” I say.

Her eyes turn towards me and she says quickly, “I love you.”

  “I love you too.”

“Is it weird for us to say that? I mean, I know we just met, but I don’t know how else to describe it. From the moment I saw you, I knew I loved you.”

“It’s not weird. So did I. It was love at first sight. As cheesy as that may sound, there’s no other way to say it.”

“Love at first sight,” she says dreamily. “Wow. I never thought I’d be experiencing that, of all things.”

  “Me either.”

I lean over the table and press my lips against hers. Then I make up my mind. But the truth is, it was made up from the moment I laid eyes on her. I’m going to buy her a ring. There’s nothing else right now that’s more important than that. This girl has got to be mine, and in order for that to happen she’s got to have a ring.

And I’m going to buy her the most beautiful one in all of LA County…

  Chapter Ten – Anna

He makes me feel so good about myself. Just the way he looks at me is enough to make me feel like I’m worth a million bucks. And the way he touches me, kisses me, and holds me in his arms…

We drove back out towards Malibu after ate. But we didn’t go back to the beach. He told me he wanted to take me somewhere else; somewhere more intimate. Now we’re up at the peak of Topanga State Park, a big park with multiple hiking trails on Topanga Canyon, a road that goes from the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu all the way to Ventura Boulevard in the Valley.

We’re looking out at Malibu; at the Pacific Ocean that stretches out wide and far before our eyes. It’s gorgeous, and there’s not a cloud in the sky. It’s just sunny and blue as far as the eye can see, and with Luke by my side I couldn’t think of anything more perfect than this. I love to lean up against his big, muscular shoulder.

I feel so safe and secure with him, like nothing bad can happen when I’m with him. I don’t know what it is about him, but it’s more than his muscles that makes me feel that way. He’s got such an alpha personality, and he always seems like he’s in complete control, like he’s always got the reins.

I think about today at the beach, and how crazy it was. I think about how quickly it was over, too, thanks to Luke. I think about yesterday as well, and how quickly he swam out there and saved me. Twice now he’s stopped something very bad happening to me out in the ocean. It makes me think maybe I shouldn’t go in the water anymore… Maybe I’m more of a dry-land type of gal.

But either way, it seems like I’ll always wind up okay, because he’s always there to rescue me.

I smile when I stare at him as I think about that. He’s so cute
when he looks all serious. He’s staring out at the ocean, looking like he’s either deep in thought, or meditating, free of any thought. He looks mysterious, and I can’t figure it out either way.

  “What are you thinking about?”

“Nothing,” he says, smiling as he looks out at the waves. “Just feel so happy, I guess,” he says. “Was thinking how lucky I am, with how everything has turned out.”

“I’m so lucky too,” I smile.

When he looks over at me, I can figure out that he’s thinking then. That much is easy. He always smiles when he stares at me, and looks so happy. He makes me feel amazing in so many ways…

Then he kisses me, and of course I can’t help but kiss him back… I wish we were in the privacy of his bedroom, but that will have to wait for later… For now, kissing him will have to be enough...

  Chapter Eleven – Luke

It’s been a few days, and I’ve finally found the right ring. It’s platinum, with a row of small diamonds surrounding a large diamond in the center of the ring. I’m biased, of course, but it’s the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen, and I’m more than thrilled to give it to Anna.

I drive back to the house and get out of the truck. I was feeling so confident and relaxed until now. I’m still confident, but I’m no longer relaxed as I walk up my driveway towards the front door… If anything, I’m feeling jumpy at this point – my heart feels like it’s about to burst out of my chest from how fast it’s beating, and all I can think about is how much I want this right now.

I want Anna to be my wife. More than anything, I want that. And I’m going to get that. I’m going to propose to her right now.

I walk up the front steps and go into the house. She’s in the kitchen cooking brownies. I can tell that from the moment I step inside. It smells delicious, and when I hear her voice I’m instantly calmed down.

“Hi, babe,” she smiles, coming out from around the corner.

“Hey there, good lookin’,” I say playfully.

We kiss as we wrap our arms around each other. She stares at me, still smiling. She’s not the only one smiling. Then I reach into my pocket and say, “I got a little something for you… Was excited to give it to you.”

Her eyes light up. Her lip begins to tremble when she sees the box. Then I pop it open and her big green eyes get even wider than they already are. She says, “Oh my god… Oh, Luke…”

“From the moment I met you and looked into your eyes, I knew more than anything in this world that I wanted to be with you, Anna. I knew that I wanted to have you in my life forever. I knew I wanted to fall asleep beside you every night, and to wake up next to you every morning. These last few days have been… Well, they’ve been the best days of my life – no contest – and I want that feeling to continue.”

She’s crying now. Crying with a big smile on her face. “I’m so happy,” she gasps.

“I’m going to always protect you. And I’m going to always take care of you. I promise you that. Through thick and thin, I’m going to be by your side. And I’m going to do everything I can to give you the best life you could ever dream of, sweetheart. I love you, Anna. I’m always going to love you. Will you marry me?”

She jumps into my arms as she squeals, “Yes! Oh, of course I’ll marry you! You already knew that!”

She jumps back down and then I put the ring on her finger. She stares at it with those big, watery green eyes, and she smiles and says, “It’s the most beautiful ring… Oh, Luke – I love you.”

“I love you too, Anna,” I say, and we kiss more passionately than ever.

I’m going to cherish her forever…
