A Little Bit of Us

I sit in silence for a few more minutes, letting the breeze blow across my skin and tangle my hair, letting it chill the tears that are soaking my cheeks. It’s peaceful, it’s relaxing, and it’s the best feeling in the world. I am so utterly content and it truly is amazing. There’s been an unfortunate mistake I’ve been making the past few months, one where I’ve said time and time again, I’ve lost the old Maya. Or I don’t know where Maya has gone. She was never really me, I grew up, somewhere along the line I grew and I changed. This is Maya, this is me and I’ve never been happier with myself. I’m finally someone that my dad, James and so many others can be proud of. More importantly I’m finally proud of myself.

With a large tearful smile I clear my throat, climb to my feet, wipe my tear stained face and head back to the car, he should have seen by now. Keep your fingers crossed for me dad.

I can see the car, I can see James… he’s twisting something round on his ring finger. He’s said yes. Slowly he looks up and green eyes meet mine, green eyes filled with tears and love. I laugh once and run to him, like I haven’t seen him in years. He said yes.

I look at my daughter in her car seat when I reach the car, she’s wearing a gorgeous white dress over the baby vest that has pink lettering that reads, ‘Marry Mommy’, on the front. I wonder if he saw the back which reads, ‘Or else’. Who cares? He’s said yes! He would have seen it when he got her undressed to change her diaper.

I wrap my arms around his neck and my legs around his waist, he buries his face in my hair as I press my eyes to his neck. “Baby,” he croaks and kisses behind my ear. I gave him the ring I actually gave him for Christmas, I put it on a chain around Evelyn’s neck and tucked it under her dress so he’d see it when he saw her baby vest. Poor little monkey, I didn’t change her before we left knowing he’d do it in the car here. Everything has gone as planned. “Really?” I hate the tone of disbelief in his voice. Mainly because I put it there.

“No.” I deadpan. Enough of the jokes already. Right. Got it.

He pinches my backside causing me to squeal and wipes his eyes on his sleeve. “I love you.”

“Yeah, me too,” I kiss his nose and then his lusciously soft lips. “This will be one to tell the grandkids. How I proposed to you in the graveyard.”

He chuckles and sucks my lower lip into his mouth before lowering me to the ground. “Thank you. For everything.”

“Don’t thank me yet. I’m probably going to do stupid shit and drive you crazy.”

  “Yeah.”

“I’ll probably get our kids to join in too.”

  He laughs. “Yeah.”

“You’ll probably end up hating me.” This thought makes me feel sick. I lower my eyes. He presses his lips to my forehead, “Baby. Never. I swear.”

“I love you,” I say it again because it just has to be said, it hasn’t been said enough. Ever since our wild night of passion two months ago followed by so many more we have cried out soppy shit into the night. I don’t ever want to go a day without telling him I love him and how much I mean it.

“Yeah, me too,” he responds with that heart stopping smile that belongs solely to me. “Always.”

  About Me

I'm 22 and I’ve been writing since I could hold a pen in my hand! I love to write, it’s my passion, and I never stop. In fact I love to write so much I have started over one hundred and fifty different books before finally completing my first ever novel 'A Little Bit of Crazy' which I published this month. I was grateful when I received feedback as it helps me be a better writer.

When I'm not writing, I love spending time with my family and when I get some spare time (not easy with young children!) It’s either reading or listening to music. You won’t find me without a book or my Kindle in my hand. I read whilst I’m cooking, cleaning, talking, walking… you could say reading is my other passion!

Although I base my books in America I am in fact a British author (I live in the north East of England). I chose to set my books in America as although I love England, I also love all things American and I have read a lot of American novels and as I love a challenge, I decided to write in an American voice! Studying the differences between Britain and America has been fascinating to say the least, even something as simple as remembering our chips are their fries and our crisps are their chips was a challenge! I’m pretty sure you’ll still find some Britishisms in my book and if you do, drop me a line (contact details below) to correct me!

Thank you for taking the time to read my book. I appreciate any kind of feedback be it good or bad. This has been a huge learning curve for me and I'm happy to receive any advice/criticism...praise?! That you wish to provide. Don’t be shy.

  Thank you,

  Love Alex
