  “Mac?” She stretched, wiggling again.

“You’re going to be the death of me.” He ran his hand under her shirt and palmed her breast. The soft, supple skin was a stark contrast to his calloused hands. He ran his thumb over her nipple and enjoyed how the peak hardened, responding to his touch. “We shouldn’t be doing this. Not yet. Not so soon after—”

“My first time?” She rolled, facing him. “Mac, I’m not sure what I want.”

“Then we don’t have to do anything,” he replied. “Although, it is nice waking up remembering everything I did the night before.”

She chuckled. “I bet.” Aurora scooted forward, her mouth was inches from his, and he froze. “Can you answer one question for me?”

He studied her features. They were neutral, almost too passive for his liking, but he didn’t say a word. If she wanted answers, he’d give as many as she needed, even though he knew he shouldn’t push the situation. “Sure. Whatever it is, I’ll answer.”

She took a deep breath and let it out slow. “What does a sixty-six-year-old man want with a twenty-something girl?”

He blinked, caught off guard by her question. It wasn’t where he thought she’d go, for sure, nonetheless he expected it at some point. No, he expected something more along the lines of sex. Or, perhaps it’d been because that was all he could think about at the moment. Idiot, he chided himself. “Well, wolves aren’t like normal humans. My body and my mind, even with all the trauma, aren’t the equivalent of my birth age. My physical age is more of a thirty-year-old, and as it stands, my age progression will slow as will yours.” He was rambling. “Danielle is better at these things. Anyway, the point is, I don’t see myself as an old man. Oh sure, in the beginning after Rapier found me, I did—”

Aurora placed her finger to his lips. “You’re all over the place, old man.”

  He growled. “I’m not old.”

Her eyes twinkled with mischief. “You still haven’t answered the question.”

“My wolf knows who you are,” he replied. “It’s a spark of knowledge, and age doesn’t mean anything.”

“What if I was a child?” she pressed.

“I would have waited until you were old enough,” he replied. “Did you ever hear the story of how Hayden and Nico got together?”

  She shook her head.

Mackenzie tucked her closer to him. “Hayden was fourteen when she met an eighteen-year-old Nico. He’d been brought into the Sheriff’s Department because of some mischief, if you believe Hayden’s story, but Nico’s been undercover more times than I can count, even before he officially joined the Sheriff’s Department. Anyway, Kalkin always wanted everything to look as good as possible—especially when it came to arrests. Nico knew the minute she walked in the door of the Sheriff’s Department, she was his, but she was too young. So, they started slow, made mistakes—huge ones—some I thought would destroy Hayden—however, they overcame it all.”

“But, don’t you feel skeeved out? You’re mature. You should have someone who’s had a lifetime of experiences. Or at least know what they’re doing, in bed or whatever.”

“Skeeved? No.” He shook his head. “Experience is relative. Someone can have a lifetime of everything, but no substance.” Mackenzie placed his hand on her hip. “If you’re worried about being a virgin or about not satisfying me, you’ve got another think coming. You were perfect. Still are.”

A tinge of pink crawled across her cheeks exposing the freckles he hadn’t realized she’d had until then. “Well... sure. But you’ve had women in your past.”

“Correct. In my past; and, no offense, they fucked me over.”

“How do you know I won’t?” Her gaze lowered as she tucked her bottom lip between her teeth, a nervous habit he noticed when he first met her.

“I don’t.” He sighed. “I didn’t know they would either until it was too late.”

“So, you could be stepping into the same shit pile as before, only with me this time.” Her statement had merit.

“I could. You could be jumping into a bigger one with me,” he added. “It’s why I’m hesitant about starting anything too intimate with you.”

She snorted. “I think we went well past intimate.”

“Touché.” He laughed. “I should apologize for all of this.”

  “Which part?”

“All of it.” He gathered her up in his arms. “The wolf sometimes, in his own way, tries to do everything with the best of intentions, and sometimes, the damn beast fucks everything up.”

Aurora threw her leg over his hip and the heat of her sweet little pussy seared his groin. Mackenzie bit back a curse as his dick throbbed, straining against the material of his sleep pants. If she realized what she’d done, she didn’t show it. “I wouldn’t say it’s all fucked up.”

“Wait,” he murmured. “Before we do something stupid here, are you sure you want this? It’s not a full mating? I don’t know... I can’t promise you anything.”

She cupped his cheek, and Mackenzie nuzzled her palm. “Yes. I think I figured it out yesterday when we were all with your family. I get it. You all have your quirks. Some are a little more severe, but after seeing Senator Winters and Jochi and knowing what I do now, I can’t say I blame you for being cautious or put off by the idea.” She might have given him the answers he wanted to hear, but he still smelled her sadness and tasted the bite of her lie.

Despite the words coming out of her mouth, she did want to be his mate.

  “No regrets then,” he whispered.

  “None,” she replied.

As much as he hated the idea of using the condoms in his bedside table, he grabbed one, anyway. He wouldn’t put her at risk. As it stood, they were close to the full moon and anything was possible, including pregnancy. She didn’t need the extra worry. He lowered his sleep pants while she removed her panties. He ripped the foil package open then rolled the latex over his cock, the foreign sensation disturbed him. He didn’t like it. It was slimy and snug. His lip curled in disgust. It’d been the first time he’d ever used one, and he swore, if they made it through all of this, and the time was right, he’d never use them again.

“Can we stay like this?” Aurora had repositioned herself, facing him with her leg draped over his hip.

“Yes.” He palmed her rear and adjusted their position then fit his tip at her entrance. “Nice and slow. If you need me to stop, say the word.”

  She nodded. “Okay.”

Mackenzie pushed forward and sucked in a breath. The warmth of her pussy, even through the condom he wore, seared his cock. He moaned her name as though it were a curse, clinging desperately to the thin thread of sanity he still had. The last time they’d done this, he’d been lost to the wolf, hidden within his subconscious while the wolf took his pleasure. Now, he didn’t know if he’d survive it.

Every nerve ending from the tip of his dick to the top of his head came alive in a wave of tingling awareness. His gut clenched, and he grit his teeth. It’d been way too long. Instinct told him to rut and fuck, save the lovemaking for another time. Yet, he held fast to his promise. He’d do this at Aurora’s speed. Take all the time she needed, and when she was ready, he’d kick it up a notch.

  “Mac,” she whimpered. “Please.”

“What do you need, star?” he murmured against her breast before placing a kiss there.

“More. ‘Lot more something.” She shuddered in his arms and rocked over him.

He chuckled and hissed when he slid deeper into her. “Your little pussy is gobbling up my dick as we speak. You want it all at one time? Think you can handle it?”

  “Yes,” she cried. “Please.”

“Fuck, you’re so damn sweet. Even when you beg.” He tightened his grip of her hips. “Hang on.”

Aurora dug her blunt fingernails into his shoulders as he retreated then filled her in one stroke. She gasped his name, and her pussy fluttered around his cock. He sank into the sensations as she trembled. It felt so fuckin
g good, he retreated once more, then slammed back into her again. Her back arched, pushing her breasts into his chest. He enjoyed the heat of her body pressed to his, and it added to the sensations crashing over him.

Mackenzie wanted to remember every detail, etch it into his memory and keep it as a keepsake for all time. Aurora was precious. Giving. Unique. Unlike others, she’d held onto her sweet disposition. Given up her life to give her niece all the care and support she needed. Shit, just thinking about everything she’d done for the last five years, turned Mackenzie on, and he didn’t understand it.

Aurora tipped his face up. Her cheeks were pink, and the freckles sprinkled across the bridge of her nose stood out in stark contrast to her complexion. Her blue eyes were glassy with arousal, and her bow-shaped lips were parted. “Where’d you go?”

“I was thinking how lucky I am,” he whispered. “How much of a bastard I am for wanting to keep you.”

She placed her finger to his lips. “Not now. Fuck me, Mac. Give it all to me.”

“Are you sure?” He brushed her bangs from her forehead.

  She nodded. “Yes.”

Mackenzie rolled them then. He took her from behind like the beast he was. The startled sound that fell from her was music to his ears as he filled her in a single stroke. She held him tight in a vise of pure pleasure. He kissed a path down her spine before licking at the dimples at the base of her spine. She was a perfect little ball of sexiness. It also scared the shit out of him with how petite she really was.

His massive body covered hers, shielding her from anyone who might try to sneak a peek at her. A possessiveness took root in the middle of his chest, and no matter how much he tried to keep it at bay, it didn’t work. He had to make her his. Not yet. Not now. I’m not ready. He growled, wrapping his arms around her. His wolf snapped at him with each thrust, demanding he take what was theirs—Aurora. He blocked out the snarls and snaps while trying to be rational with the wolf. They needed time. Needed to go slow. He had to do this the proper way since he’d rushed into everything with the others. He wouldn’t subject Aurora to his stupidity—even if the wolf wanted him to forego the courting portion of their mating.

  “Oh, God, Mac!” she sobbed.

His lip curled. The damn wolf took his attention off of her. She’d been so fucking slick and snug, he’d missed how tense she’d become. “You need to cum, star?” He lowered his hand to the top of her sex and extended his middle finger. Her cream coated her hard clit. “Fuck. You ache, don’t you, baby? Want me to help you out?”

She went down to her forearms, lifting her ass higher, changing the angle of penetration. “Yes. Please.” The reedy tone of her voice went straight to his balls, drawing them up in hard knots.

“Give it to me,” he growled, circling her clit with his finger. “Cum for me. Show me how much you want this.”

She bucked against him. Her back arched, and she sucked in a breath. The keen wail she let loose with into his pillow as her pussy went supernova, snatched at him, surprising him with the intensity. He couldn’t move as her pussy rippled and flexed around him. Each pulse of her release felt like a kiss to the head of his dick and he lost it. He dug his fingers into her hips and slammed into her twice more before shoving as deep as he could go and came. His dick jerked and throbbed. Each spurt of his orgasm brought forth a grunt of bliss. Nothing compared to it. Nothing. He began to move again, extending their pleasure.

Aurora trembled in his arms as he lowered them into a comfortable position. Shit. He stroked her arms and whispered in her ear as they came down from their mutual climaxes. When his breathing evened out, he pressed a kiss to her shoulder. “Are you okay?”

She snorted then laughed. “Define okay.”

He groaned, flexing his hips. “I can’t right now. Still coming inside you.”

“Think the condom is up to the task?”

Fuck. He pulled out, hating the idea of leaving her warmth. “I keep fucking this up.”

She laughed again. “You won’t hear me complain. But, uh, why do you have condoms? I thought wolves didn’t get human ailments or whatever.”

“We don’t,” he mumbled. “I have them for Liam. I... I thought it would be better if I used it since we’re so close to the full moon.”

“That was very considerate of you,” she said, threading her fingers through his. “But isn’t Liam a little young to be thinking about sex?”

“Not for wolves. This will be his first full moon. His first season.”

“Oh,” she replied then stilled. “Oh. Oh, wow. Do I say congratulations or something?”

Mackenzie chuckled. “No. It’d probably embarrass him. I’ve already had to pick him up from school due to it.”

She groaned. “Okay, as a woman, I think I can sympathize with him. I was twelve when I started my cycle for the first time, in school, during P.E.”

“Jesus,” Mackenzie muttered. “Did you call your mom?”

She shook her head. “No, our mother wasn’t what you’d call a parent. She liked her booze and she liked her men. So, I called my sister who had a free period in school. She brought me everything I needed.”

“She sounds like a great sister.”

“She was. Abby would have loved her mother. She’d probably have called me all kinds of names for going so long without doing this... Sex.”

He grinned. “Family, right? Kalkin gave me shit the first couple of years after I came home for not going out and finding someone during the full moon. What I never told him was that I’d essentially been impotent.”

“So, what makes now different?” she asked.

“Do you really want me to answer your question?” He didn’t want to pressure her, but she also deserved to know.

She rolled over and faced him once more. “Yes.”

“You,” he answered. “Finding you. It didn’t happen right away, but I guess it’d begun the night of the run and has progressively gotten worse every time I came to your apartment.”

“Whoa.” She let out a breath. “That’s kind of intense.”

  He nodded. “It is.”

The alarm on his clock went off, and he cursed under his breath. “Well, looks like our playtime is over. Kids will be up soon.” He bent his head and kissed her. “If you’d like to grab a shower, take your time. I’ll have coffee and breakfast on the table by the time you come down.”

She bit her bottom lip and nodded. “Sure. Thanks. I won’t be long.”

“No rush.” He kissed her again then slipped out of bed.

“Hey, Mac? What are you doing today?”

“Court. I have to testify again, and so do Hayden and Emmitt,” he answered. “Why?”

She shrugged. “Do you think we could, you know, do this again? I could make dinner or something.”

“Don’t you have to work today?”

She shook her head. “Normal day off. I’ll go in on Sunday to make up for having last night off.”

“Sure. I’d like to have dinner with you,” he said.

“Great, when I take Abby to school, I’ll stop by the apartment and grab some clothes then head to the store. Anything in particular you want?”

“Yeah,” he replied, throwing the used condom into his waste basket. “The apple cake you made was really good. Think you can show this old wolf how to make it?”

She laughed. “Only if you think old wolves can learn new tricks.”

Mackenzie pounced on her, yanking a startled cry from her. He kissed her again while wrapping his arms around her. His dick twitched and hardened once more. “I’ll show you, old dog.” He positioned his tip at her entrance and filled her once more. The wet heat of her sex engulfed him, and he groaned. “Shit. I shouldn’t be doing this. I could lose my head with you.”

“Seems to be the reoccurring theme here,” she teased.

“Guess, so.” He buried his face in her neck as he began to move.

A knock came at the door. “Dad. You awake? It’s time to get up.”<
br />
He muttered a curse as he pulled out. “To be continued later.” He nipped her neck before climbing out of bed. “Yeah, I’m up, Liam.”

  “Okay,” his son said.

“Can you do me a favor?” Mackenzie grabbed his pants off the floor and put them on while Aurora ambled, naked, into the bathroom.

  “Sure, what do you need?”

He opened the door a bit. “Get Riley and Abby up for me. I’ll be down in a second to start breakfast for all of you.”

Liam’s nose wrinkled. “Why does it smell so sweet and a bit musky?”

“Adult stuff, son. I promise I’ll explain it later, though.” A tinge of embarrassment rolled through Mackenzie. With his son’s first season on the horizon, Liam would be learning the difference between all kinds of scents, including arousal, desire, and lust.

“Sure, dad.” Liam frowned. “I’ll get Riley and Abby up. See you downstairs.”

Mackenzie sighed. “Thank you for being so mature, son. I appreciate it. We’ll go for a run tonight, if you want and then, I’ll explain everything.”

Liam perked up a bit. “You’re on. Thanks, dad.”

“You’re welcome. See you in a minute.” Mackenzie closed the door behind him and ran his fingers through his hair. “What a cluster fuck.”

He lifted his chin and inhaled. The subtle scent of Aurora’s arousal wafted toward him from the bathroom and his dick throbbed. Fuck it. What’s five more minutes? He tugged off his pants and entered the bathroom. Aurora stood with her face in the water and her back to him. He took in the curves of her body and growled.

Okay, so maybe a little more than five minutes. He pulled the door open to his shower and stepped inside. “Liam is getting Riley and Abby up and ready.”

“Oh?” Aurora glanced over her shoulder.

  “Yes,” he answered.

“And you’re telling me this because...”

He spun her to him then back to her up to the wall. “Because, when you walked into the bathroom, the sway of your ass got my dick hard, and I need you again.” He lifted her with ease and Aurora wrapped her legs around his waist.

“Why, Mr. Raferty. You are a dirty wolf, aren’t you?” Her features morphed into a mask of pleasure as he lowered her onto him.
