As he stepped inside he saw four knights lying motionless on the floor, and there was no sign of Bridget’s mother; three of the knights on the floor were dead, and one was badly wounded, it was Roma, Bridget’s knight.
Achilles and Bridget then rushed to attend to her, “Roma, who did this? Where’s my mother?” Bridget asked her in a state of panic, but Roma didn’t answer as she was unable to talk.
Achilles quickly called for more knights to secure the room and to take Roma to the knights infirmary where she would be fixed. As the knights arrived, Frank ordered Achilles to go with Roma, but Achilles would not go and he said that his place was beside the governor and to protect and serve him. Achilles then nominated Bridget to go with Roma while he and Frank stayed back at the apartment.
As the other knights put Roma in the airmobile for transport, Bridget sat in the back with her, eager to ask about what happened to her mother, then once they were alone Roma began quietly speaking to her and she explained why she had to pretend to be injured as this was the only way they would have the time to talk privately.
In addition to that, if she was not injured it would have looked suspicious and Achilles and Frank would have picked up on it. She then went onto explain that she helped her mother escape as the plan from Frank all along was to have her mother killed to teach Bridget a lesson.
Bridget was shocked to hear that Frank would do such a thing, and even though she knew he was evil and wanted to kill every last human being on earth she didn’t think he had it in him to kill another betasapien, let alone her mother. As Roma explained more, she said that the three knights responsible for bringing her mother to the apartment were ordered to kill her and leave her on a chair for Bridget to see as soon as she entered the apartment.
She then went onto explain to Bridget that once she knew what was happening, she deceived the knights and then attacked and killed them. She then took Bridget’s mother to the safety of the rogue knights of Australia as she had the utmost trust in them and told Bridget that they would protect and keep her mother safe and away from the evil clutches of Frank.
Meanwhile back at the apartment, Frank was furious, “How could this happen in the apartment of the governor?” he asked Achilles.
“I have failed you my master,” Achilles replied to him.
Achilles then vowed to Frank that he would find the perpetrators as this was his path to redemption; a path that would begin now and end when the beast of the earth took its final breath.
CHAPTER SIXTEEN
As Ava struggled to control the airmobile; it was headed west as she commanded it to and was flying at over three hundred miles per hour and it was vibrating to the point where Ava almost lost control of it.
As soon as Ava felt at a safe distance away from the vigilantes, she slowed down the airmobile, and she slowly regained full control of it. She then looked back at Jonah for direction on what to do next, but he was still unconscious. She then took off her seatbelt and faced the back of the airmobile to feel if Jonah still had a pulse, and thankfully he did have one, and that brought a sense of relief to her. She then reseated herself, and put her seatbelt back on and continued flying west.
“I hope you know what you’re doing Ava,” she murmured under her breath to herself in an attempt to feel at ease about heading west as Jonah told her.
She wasn’t exactly sure why she was headed west, but she put her belief and trust in Jonah and hoped that his decision was the right one given the fact that he told her those words as he became unconscious as this was the trust that she had in her brother; as ever since they were young, he looked after her, more than any brother would have ever done.
Given the fact that Ava’s mother passed away while she was quite young, Dean and Jonah had the extra responsibilities due to her mother not being there. Jonah always protected her and ensured that she was safe and secure; and there were times during the battles between the outlaws and the vigilantes where people would be locked in their homes for weeks or even months, and Jonah would give his food, drink, and nutrition pills to her.
There were other situations where they would be traveling and Jonah would offer his pillow and blanket to her to ensure that she was warm and had a soft place to rest her head at night, and these were the things which Ava never forgot. Sure they would fight and have disagreements as any other brother and sister would, but there was always something about Jonah that Ava felt comfort and stability in.
It wasn’t that she didn’t feel that same comfort and stability in her father, but during the times when he was not there, such as when he was working in different regions or helping friends move to different cities where Jonah was the one who took care of and protected her. He would tell her stories of their mother that he was told by their father; after all, he didn’t have that many memories as well, as their mother passed away when he was only three years old.
As Ava continued flying west she wondered about her father; she wanted to stop and turn back but she knew the mentality of the vigilantes and knew that if she and Jonah were captured by them, they would certainly face death or even worse. The vigilantes were known throughout the Americas as having zero tolerance for those that opposed their ways and Ava didn’t want to make it any easier for them to find her and Jonah.
She also knew that Luo said that he would tell their father about what happened to them, and that gave her great comfort in knowing that he would know the truth regarding the unfortunate set of events that befell them.
Ava didn’t plan on leaving Denver permanently, and she planned on turning back and returning home once the incident calmed down and the vigilantes had forgotten about it but she knew that this was not only her decision, but Jonah’s as well.
As the dark of night approached they arrived in Aspen, Colorado and Ava searched for a safe place to land the airmobile and did so. Once it landed she attended to Jonah and she called his name but there was no answer, she then called his name again but there was only silence.
She then exited the airmobile and headed to the side of it to see what Dylan had stowed away in the storage area, and as she opened it she saw three lasers and two knives along with a plethora of nutrition pills and a sleeping bag. She then took a laser, a few pills, along with the sleeping bag and headed back to the front of the airmobile, she then opened the sleeping bag and covered Jonah with it, and she tried to give him some pills but he was still sleeping. She then took a nutrition pill herself and eased into her seat and fell asleep.
Then suddenly there was a noise, bang, bang, bang; and Ava was awoken by the unexpected sound. Then as she looked out of the window, she saw two men, “What do you want?” she asked them.
“Nothing Ma’am, just making sure everything is okay,” one of the men replied back to her.
“We’re fine, thanks,” Ava said to them brandishing her laser to show the men that she was able to take care of herself and Jonah.
“These are dangerous parts Ma’am, you can’t be too safe. But if you say you’re okay then we’ll be on our way,” said one of the men, and they both then headed towards an abandoned building not too far away from the airmobile.
As they walked away, Ava kept an eye on them and made sure that they were no longer a threat and then began to fall asleep. As she fell asleep, she had no idea of the danger that those two men posed to her and Jonah. More importantly however, she was also unaware that her mind was getting ready for a dream unlike any other, a dream that would show her what Jonah was truly meant to be.
CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
After burying Luo in the church graveyard, John came back inside with the other church members and told them portions of what occurred. He purposely left out the events regarding Dean, Ava, and Jonah as he was unsure of who he could trust given the fact that most of the church members would tell the vigilantes of his true intentions in order to get back on their good side and restore the pact between them and the church, and John knew that he needed to find Dean right away but did not want any
one to know.
“I’m heading out for some fresh air, I need to clear my head,” he told them.
He then left the church and headed towards Dean’s worksite on his airmobile. John didn’t meet Dean when he was at the church earlier, but he did see him, and he knew what he looked like. Luo had also given him the address of the worksite and told him to get in touch with Dean if something were to happen to him. John wasn’t sure what time Dean would be leaving the worksite, and he just hoped that he would make it in time to tell him what happened before Dean made it back to his home.
As John guided the airmobile through the sky, he wasn’t sure what to make of everything that occurred earlier. He knew Luo for a long time, and he knew that to Luo, God and family were the most important things to him, yet he gave his life for two strangers he had known for less than twenty–four hours. It didn’t make any sense to John, but regardless of if it made sense to him or not, his priority right now was to find Dean and as he approached the worksite, he saw a few men standing at the gate and from afar he couldn’t tell if Dean was among them.
He then exited his airmobile and walked towards the group; “Hello there, I’m looking for Dean,” he said.
“You just missed him kid, he left in an airmobile in that direction a few minutes ago,” one of the men answered.
Then without another word, John rushed to his airmobile, put it in full speed and headed in the direction that the man told him. As he flew he hoped that he would get to Dean before the vigilantes did, and he accelerated past a few airmobiles looking through the window of each of them hoping to see Dean. He was now almost halfway to Dean’s home, and he knew that he had to reach him before he got home and the vigilantes spotted him.
Although John told the vigilantes that there was no one else other than Jonah and Ava that was involved with the dead knight, he knew that there was a good chance the vigilantes would wait at the apartment to ensure that no one else was involved. As John looked ahead, there were no airmobiles in sight and he was getting closer to Dean’s home, and then, just as he made the final turn he spotted an airmobile that was parked in front of the building.
Meanwhile, not too far away from the airmobile stood two vigilantes who were no doubt waiting to see if anyone went into Dean’s apartment. John then gunned the airmobile for one final dash and just as Dean exited his friends airmobile John came to an abrupt stop in front of Dean, startling him.
“What the hell are you doing? Are you crazy?” Dean shouted at him.
“No, but if you want to live come in my airmobile right now, those two vigilantes standing there are after your kids, and now they want you,” John told him.
“What kids? What are you talking about?” asked Dean, who was in a confused state.
“I’m talking about Jonah and Ava, so tell your friend to get out of here and you get into my airmobile,” John said to Dean.
“Is everything okay Dean?” his friend asked.
“Yeah I’ll be fine,” Dean said, and with that, his friend flew off, and Dean entered John’s airmobile and they headed away from the apartment.
“Where are my kids? Are they safe?” Dean asked John.
“I don’t know where they are but I’ll help you find them,” John said.
“What happened, why did they leave?” Dean anxiously asked.
John then explained what happened and he told him about the vigilantes finding the dead rogue knight, and also about the church member telling the vigilantes about who brought the dead knight to the church and he also explained to Dean that Luo gave up his life to save Jonah and Ava. He then told him about Jonah’s superhuman abilities and what he did to protect himself and Ava. After John was finished speaking, Dean then told him to go back to the church but John told him that it wasn’t safe there.
“Where can we go?” Dean asked.
“Nowhere in Denver, the church members know your face and if the vigilantes find out who you are I don’t know what they will do to you,” John stated.
“I have to find my kids, which direction did they go?” Dean asked.
“I don’t know where exactly they went, but they went in that direction,” John said to Dean, pointing west.
“Then we’ll head in that direction,” Dean said, and with that John then sped off with Dean in hopes of finding Jonah and Ava.
As they flew in their airmobile in pursuit of Jonah and Ava, John asked, “So I guess it’s just you three; you, Jonah and Ava?”
“Yeah, their mother died when Ava was quite young,” Dean somberly said.
“My sympathies,” John replied.
“Was she a superhuman or are you? And you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to,” John said.
“I don’t mind, you’re helping me find my kids and that means a lot to me. But to answer your question, she was a superhuman, a powerful one as well; and I’m just a regular human,” Dean told John.
“Okay, so I guess that Jonah gets his abilities from her?” John asked.
“Yeah he does, and once Ava reaches maturity she will have similar capabilities,” Dean said.
“And you, what abilities do you have?” John asked Dean.
“No special abilities for me, but I’m a hell of a fighter, Jonah and Ava are as well, I trained them well. I hope that my training pays off and we find them safe and sound,” Dean said.
“I’m sure they’ll be fine,” John said in a reassuring voice to Dean.
“That part of town looks busy, let’s stop to ask anyone if they saw them,” John said and with that, they landed their airmobile in hopes of finding any information on the whereabouts of Jonah and Ava.
After they had landed, they headed towards a group of people and asked them if anyone saw Jonah and Ava but no one did, they then walked around asking other people but no one saw them. They were far away from home and Dean wondered if perhaps they turned back to return to Denver.
“What do you think? You think they headed back home?” Dean asked John.
“I don’t know Sir but I don’t think so, those vigilantes meant business and your kids knew that. I don’t think that they would go back home right away,” John confidently stated.
“Where would they go then?” Dean asked.
“I’m not sure Sir, is there a place they are familiar with? Maybe somewhere that is special to them?” John said.
As soon as the words came out of John’s mouth, Dean knew where they were headed.
“They’re going to Las Vegas,” he said.
“You really think they would go all the way to the west coast?” John asked.
“Yeah they would, we have some family and friends there and they would be safe. They know I would go there to find them and that’s what I’m going to do,” Dean said with the utmost certainty.
“Well, what are we waiting for, let’s go,” John said.
“Not us, just me. I can’t ask you to do this,” Dean said to John.
“You’re not asking me; I want to do this. I don’t know what’s going on but Luo believed in your kids. He also mentioned that Sarah felt something about your son, something strange, and that’s why he fainted when he saw her,” John told Dean.
“What exactly did Luo say, and where was Sarah when all of this was going on?” Dean asked.
“I don’t know Sir, Luo just said that she had to leave for something urgent,” John said to Dean.
“Okay thanks, but look John, I know that you mean well but this is my problem, they’re my kids, and I’ll go after them,” Dean said.
“With all due respect Sir, my friend gave his life to save your kids and I’ll give my life to save them too. I’m ready to die for them, and I’m ready to die for what Luo believed in,” John said.
“We’ll find them John, you’re not going to die for this,” Dean said.
“I hope that I don’t die Sir but if I do I know that it would be worth it, I feel it, and I know it,” John said to Dean.
“Thank you,” Dean said, and with that, they head
ed to the airmobile. Dean then told John to sit in the back and get some rest and they would take turns flying. As John sat in the back of the airmobile and fell asleep, little did he know that he would have someone special paying him a visit in his dream, a dream that would not only make him realize that Luo’s death was not in vain, but one that would also make him realize his own destiny.
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
Sarah awoke to a loud bang at her door, and as she opened it she saw Amare along with seven guards.
“Good morning, are you ready for breakfast?” he asked.
“Not really, but if you insist; give me five minutes and I’ll be ready,” Sarah replied to him.
She then went back inside to prepare for her day, not really sure what to expect. After all, she was a prisoner, but to her surprise, she was being treated like royalty.
As she exited her room, Amare was standing outside waiting for her, and as he smiled at her, she smiled back, but her thoughts weren’t with him; and her mind was on Jonah and Ava.
“What exactly do you want from me Amare? I’m your prisoner but I’m not being treated like one,” she said to him.
“You’re not my prisoner Sarah; I like to think of you as my business partner. Having someone like you on my side is vital to this operation and to the outlaws in general,” Amare replied.
“Yes, but I’m here against my will, I don’t want to be here,” she said to him.
“And you are free to leave, but remember this, the moment that you step out of my compound without my protection you will be killed. If you stay with me, I will give you a great life of anything and everything you could ever want,” Amare replied.
