“Oh my god, Luke, that is amazing. My man is the chief of police, that turns me on just saying it. Shit, I just forgot I needed to tell you something,” she says as she looks down.

I lightly grab her chin with my index finger and thumb and lift her face. “You can tell me anything. I hope you know that” I tell her while looking into her eyes.

“Well, it kinda just slipped my mind last night with everything. You didn’t wear a condom,” she starts.

“Wait, should I have worn one? I know you were a virgin, so I know you don’t have anything,” I ask confused.

“Well, no, yes, I don’t know, but I’m not on birth control,” she stammers.

Now, I’m smiling and she’s looking all confused.

“Baby, I’m not getting any younger. I want babies with you, do you not want kids,” I ask her, now somewhat scared. What if she doesn’t want them?

“Of course I want kids with you, as many as we can have. I was an only kid so I want a big family, I just wasn’t sure how you felt about it,” she says.

“Let’s get out of the shower and we can talk,” I say as I turn the shower off. I wrap her in my robe as I grab a towel for myself.

We go back into the bedroom and sit on the bed. “Now, I’m only going to say this once Whisper Ann Jameson. I love you, and I want to be with you forever. As many kids as you want, I’ll give them to you. You never have to work again if you don’t want to. I make more than enough, plus my inheritance that if you wanted to, you could just stay at home with our kids. Now, do you have any questions?” I ask quirking my eyebrow at her.

She shakes her head. “Oh wait, I do have one,” she says. I look at her and wait for her to continue. “Was that a marriage proposal?” she asks.

“Do you want it to be?” I ask as I wait for her answer.

  Chapter 8

  Whisper

I sit and think about his question for a minute. Do I want it to be a marriage proposal? I’m only eighteen, am I ready to be with one person for the rest of my life? I love him, but I’m not sure this will work out. I was taken from him once and he never fought for me, what if something happens and he doesn’t fight for me again.

He must sense my hesitance. “It’s okay baby. You don’t have to answer me right now, we can take things slow. As long as you promise to go ahead and move in with me. There’s no way you’re going back to your old apartment,” he says as he shakes his head at me.

“I’m not going anywhere, but I’m just not sure if I’m ready for marriage yet. And last time someone took me from you, you didn’t even fight to get me back,” I say as my deepest fear is exposed.

“Hey, you listen to me,” he says. I look up at him. “I didn’t fight for you because at the time I thought you’d be better off not living with a bachelor cop who would never be home because he was working on advancing his career as fast as possible. Now that I know what you’ve been through, I’ll kick my ass every day for not fighting for you. However, I can tell you right now, I will fight for you and for us until the day I take my last breath,” he says to me.

Looking into his eyes, I can tell he is telling me the truth. “Luke, ask me again, formally this time,” I say to him.

“Babe I’m only in a towel. Proposing to you should be romantic, not something like this,” he says to me.

“Luke, I don’t care how you do it. I just know that I want to be with you forever,” I tell him.

“Well, I already have a plan in place, but you’re going to have to wait,” he winks. “Now, if you will excuse me, I have to get dressed for work.”

I watch him get off the bed and walk into his closet. He brings out his navy blue police uniform and I can feel my mouth start to water. He catches me watching him.

“Don’t even think about it. I’m already running late and I know you have to be sore from last night. Do you work today,” he asks and I shake my head. “Good. Take a warm bath and relax today. I will be home by seven at the latest and I’ll take you to get your stuff from your apartment,” he says as he takes the towel off his body.

I can’t stand it, so I get off the bed and pounce on him. He catches me around the waist as I plant a big kiss on his lips. He kisses me back and before I know it he’s bracing me against the wall and slipping his cock inside my wet pussy.

I’m sitting in the bath remembering our little sex session this morning. God, it was so hot being fucked against a wall. I place my hands on my stomach thinking how I could be pregnant already. That would be the best Christmas gift for Luke. I smile at the thought. I look at the clock and notice the time. I want to cook Luke dinner for when he gets home, and I only have a few hours to get it all together.

I get out of the bath and dry off. I took one of Luke’s dress shirts from his closet and slip it over my head. Since I’m only five foot, his shirt hangs down to my mid-thigh. I smile to myself wearing his clothes.

I head into the kitchen and see if he has the stuff to make my famous lasagna. Luckily he does, so I get to work.

Luke walks into the house as I’m pulling the lasagna out of the oven.

“It smells good in here baby,” he says as he comes up behind me and wraps his arms around my waist.

“Well thank you, baby, but you’re going to have to let me go so I can finish up dinner,” I giggle as he starts to nibble on my neck.

He lets me go but doesn’t go far. I can feel his eyes on my back and I blush at what thoughts must be going through his head. I bring the food to the table, along with the salad that I made too. Luke walks to the fridge and takes out a bottle of sweet red wine.

“Would you like some wine baby,” he asks as he pours a glass for himself.

“Uh, did you forget that I’m only eighteen? Mr. Police Officer shouldn’t be giving alcohol to a minor,” I most scold him.

“Whisper, we are pretty much staying in all night, and I trust you. Would you like a glass,” he asks again.

“Can I try yours first to make sure I’ll like it. I will only drink one glass because I don’t want to become like my mom,” I say as I look down at my plate.

“Whisper, look at me please,” he commands. I look at him. “You are not your mother. You have too much goodness in your heart to ever be like your mother, and if you for one minute think that I would let you become like that, you don’t know me very well,” he states matter of factly.

I nod my head because I’m not sure what to say after that. He hands me his glass, and I take a sip. It almost tastes like grape juice, so I tell him that I will take a glass of my own.

We sit and eat and talk about his day. Apparently, being the chief just means a lot of meetings with some pretty high up people. He even knows the mayor of Atlanta and the governor of Georgia. I smile at myself, being proud of the man he is.

After dinner, we pick a movie to watch on Netflix. Halfway through the movie, he pauses it and looks at me.

“So, I got an invitation in the mail to the Christmas Eve gala Delilah is throwing, do you want to go,” he asks.

I think about it for a minute. “Yeah, I do want to go. It’s supposed to be a grand affair, and I’d love to be able to get all dolled up for you,” I say.

“Okay, I’ll fill out the RSVP and send it back to her. And you don’t have to get all dolled up for me to find you beautiful. I find you beautiful just breathing,” he says.

“Well, I’ve never gotten all dressed up like this before so it should be fun,” I say to him.

“I have big plans for that night, and I hope they go the way I want them to,” he says, making me very curious what he has up his sleeve.

  Chapter 9

  Luke

It’s the night of the big event, and to say I’m nervous is an understatement. Whisper wouldn’t get ready here, she said she wanted to surprise me. So, she got ready at Delilah’s house. I gave her a credit card with her name on it since I added her to my accounts after she officially moved in with me. She didn’t want to take it, but then I told her how
much money my grandparents had left me and she reluctantly took it. I told her to get whatever she wanted to get, costs be damned.

I’m getting in my truck to head to the Dream Sky Hotel, wondering how she is going to take my little surprise. I will admit, I had to ask for Delilah’s help pulling it off. The box in my jacket pocket is burning a hole in my pocket. We’ve been living together for three weeks now, and I have loved every minute of it. I have loved going to bed with her every night and waking up next to her in the morning. Not to mention the sex, holy shit the sex is amazing.

I get to the hotel and give my keys to the valet. I walk into the swanky ballroom that’s all decked out in red and gold. Damn, Delilah knows how to throw a party. I see waiters walking around with appetizers and glasses of champagne. I grab a glass as one walks by me and look around for my woman. I see Delilah with her husband Kyle, and then I see her. Holy shit do I see her.

She’s wearing a skin-tight ivory colored dress. One sleeve is long and the other one is bare. I can see what looks like a tattoo on her shoulder blade, and I know for a fact she didn’t have that in the last three weeks. Her honey blonde hair is curled and pinned to one side, and I can’t wait to mess it up later. She must sense me behind her because she turns around and gives me the biggest smile I’ve ever seen her give me before. She’s simply glowing, and I can’t but wonder if it’s just the lighting and the atmosphere or something else.

I walk over to the group, wrap an arm around my girl’s waist, and lean down to give her a kiss on the head. She looks up at me, so I lightly kiss her bright red lips. We sit and talk with the group for a while and I see that she’s made friends with another woman named Lilly. It warms my heart that she has found someone to talk to and be friends with.

Leaning down, I ask her if she would like to dance with me. She looks up and nods, smiling. We go to a separate ballroom because I didn’t want to do this in front of everyone except Delilah and Kyle. They are pretty much family to her, so I wanted them to be here to share this special moment.

“Luke, what are we doing? Everyone is in the other room,” she asks as we walk into the other room. Looking down at her beautiful face, I simply smile.

Just then the stage lights up and she looks over to see her favorite music group Pentatonix on stage. They start singing all different Christmas songs as we danced for a few hours. I looked up and gave them a small nod, indicating that it is time. They start with the opening notes of “Bless the Broken Road” by Rascal Flatts and the whole ballroom lights up with twinkling lights. Whisper gasps as I drop to one knee.

“Whisper, when I saved you six years ago, I didn’t realize you’d be the one to save me. You were so scared when I took you in. So young but so mature at the same time. You’d been through so much. You changed my life, in that short amount of time. You’ve made me see what I’ve been missing out on. Someone to love. Someone to cherish. A reason to come home at night. Who could’ve known that girl would be the one for me? I didn’t know back then that I would love you forever, but I will, Whisper. Marry me. Make me the happiest man on Earth,” I say as I pull the ring out of my pocket.

She looks down at me with tears in her eyes. She nods quickly. “Yes, a million times yes, Luke,” she yells. I slip the ring on her finger, get up off my knee, and pick her up while swinging her in a circle.

Delilah and Kyle come rushing over with hugs and handshakes. I look down at the woman who is my future and can’t wait to get started on it.

“I can’t wait to marry you, Whisper. Let’s get married right now,” I say.

I want to be married to her right this minute, but apparently, she has other plans.

“Sweetheart, we still have the rest of the ball, and I want to have a real wedding,” she says.

“You can have a real wedding after we are married. I want you to have my last name as soon as possible. You have two days, and that’s all I’m giving you,” I demand.

She rolls her eyes at me but agrees. “Christmas Eve it is,” she says.

  Chapter 10

  Whisper

It’s Christmas Eve, and I’m giddy with excitement. Today is the day I marry my best friend. Today is also the day where I tell my best friend that he is going to be a daddy. I took a test this morning, and I’m giving it to him as a wedding gift. I have been feeling a little off, and Delilah noticed and made me take a test this morning. I guess she had a few extra laying around since she and Kyle have been humping like rabbits.

I put on the dress I wore to the ball, and look in the mirror. Delilah did my hair and makeup, and I have never felt more beautiful. I put my hands to my belly as a new life grows there. I have never been more excited in my life for this new chapter to begin. I look at the clock and notice it’s time to go.

We are getting married in our backyard, and he even got the mayor to marry us. I have to admit, I did a little happy dance when he told me that. I take one last look at myself and make my way downstairs.

When I get to the bottom of the stairs, Delilah is waiting for me. “What are you doing here? You’re supposed to be at the end of the altar with Luke. Wait, did he change his mind? Does he not want to marry me now,” I ask as I start panicking.

“Hey, hey, calm down woman. He is still there waiting for you, but he didn’t want you to have to walk down the aisle alone. That is where I come in. I’m going to give you away, my beautiful friend,” she says with tears in her eyes.

I can’t help it, the tears start to fall. “He really has thought of everything hasn’t he,” I say with a giggle as she wipes the tears from my face. She nods and we link arms as we make our way to the love of my life.

  * * *

The wedding was everything I could’ve asked for, and now it is time to exchange gifts with each other.

  “Ladies first,” he insists.

I take a deep breath, not sure how he’s going to react. I reach out and get the long shaped box and hand it to him.

“Keep in mind, there is no way I can take it back so you better like it,” I say out of nervousness.

He rolls his eyes and opens the box. When his eyes take in what I’ve given him, his eyes start to mist over. “Are you telling me what I think you’re telling me? We are having a baby,” he asks.

All I can do is nod. He lets out a whoop, jumps up, and picks me up. He swings me around and I almost vomit all over him. He puts me down and gives me the most passionate kiss yet.

“I am so happy, Whisper. I knew we both wanted to kids, but I never thought it would happen this soon,” he excitedly says.

I look over at him and see such happiness in his eyes. It warms my heart that he is so happy.

“Okay, you got your gift, I want mine now,” I say giddy.

He smiles and hands me a folder. I’m so confused but he nods at me to open the folder. Inside, I see a letter of resignation.

“I’m not sure what I’m looking at here,” I say honestly. “Are you resigning from the police force,” I ask looking at him.

“I am. Whisper, I’ve done everything I could possibly want in my career. My dream was to become the chief of police, and I’ve done that. I have a new dream now, and you have already made it come true. I get to be your husband and now a father to our unborn baby,” he admits.

I’m speechless. “Luke, I…I can’t let you quit. I don’t want you to resent me later on in life when you see that I’m the reason you gave up what you loved so much,” I tell him.

“Don’t you see, Whisper, you’re not the reason. Our life together is. If you still want to work that’s fine, I’ll stay home with the kids. As I said, my dreams changed the moment I saw you in that red dress. My fate was sealed that night,” he goes on to say.

I have no other arguments. All I can do is lean in and give my husband a kiss.

“Our kids are going to be the luckiest kids alive to have you for a dad. You’ve given me everything I have ever wanted in life. All I have ever wanted in life was to find a man who loved me. Turns out,
all this bride needed was a little Christmas magic, and a hero to steal her heart,” I say to him.

I hear the clock on the wall chime and look up. It’s midnight and Christmas day.

  “Merry Christmas, Luke,” I say.

“And Merry Christmas to you, my lovely wife,” he says as he leans in and lightly kisses my lips again. A kiss so filled with promise and hope for our future.

  Epilogue

  Luke

  Two years later

It’s been two years since we said “I do”, and it’s been the happiest of my life. I did end up resigning from the police force, and it was the best decision I have ever made. Our baby boy was born in August the next year. The labor and delivery were rough on both of them, but they both came out on the other side healthy. Zane Michael Davis was three weeks early and tiny, weighing in at five pounds even. Whisper is such an amazing mother, just as I knew she would be.

I’m sitting in the rocking chair in Zane’s room when I hear the front door open. I smile to myself as my wife comes walking in the door.

“Well hey, babe, how was work,” I ask her as she comes into our son’s room.

“Ugh long. I had to fire another waitress for stealing tips off the other waitress’ tables. What is wrong with people these days,” she asks as she leans down to give me a kiss, then to kiss our son’s head.

I am doing what I said I would do. Even though neither of us has to work, Whisper decided she wanted to work for a while, so I let her. I stay home with Zane while she goes to work every day.

“You should put him down for his nap, I have some exciting news to share with you,” she says with a wink as I get up to put our son in his bed. I walk quietly out of the room and crack the door in case he wakes up.

I come into the living room and sit down next to my wife. Even after two years, I never tire of calling her my wife.
