She took out a folded piece of paper she was carrying in her bra and handed it over.
My Tara,
The first time I saw you. Your brown hair was sparkling in the moonlight. You turned around, and your eyes flashed with green fire. I knew in that moment I had to have you. What I didn’t know was that I already loved you. My heart knew what my mind wouldn’t except.
Things have been strange at work lately, and maybe I'm just paranoid, but I have to tell you I love you. I can’t wait to see the shock on your face when my gift comes. You will always be mine. Love Quintin.
Quinn wiped the tears from her cheeks and hugged her mom tight.
“Thank you.”
“He loves you. I could feel it over the phone. Now let’s get you home.”
Chapter Twenty-three
There was a loud purr from the back of the truck. Tee was on her hind legs looking out the back window.
“I see. Now get up here. I’m sure it’s nothing.” She rechecked the rear-view mirror. There was a black SUV following her. It stayed with her for the last ten miles. Why did her mom have to live so far out? The occupants of the other car hadn’t given her a reason to worry, but her ‘Oh shit’ meter was going through the roof. Now she was on the stretch of road that was empty most of the time.
“There’s nothing to worry about Tee. They are probably just college kids out having fun.” She didn’t believe the words out of her mouth, but she only needed to go eight more miles before she hit traffic.
She reached for the button on the radio to turn it up when a loud growl from Tee made her look in the mirror again. The SUV was much closer and speeding up.
“Hold on I think they’re going to ram us.” They did making her truck go sideways. She fought with the wheel to keep it on the road. When it straightened up, her hand flew to her heart fear making it beat faster. She floored the gas and took off. The truck was fast, but it was old and no match for the SUV that slammed into it again.
This time her head hit the steering wheel, and the truck spun out of control going over the side of the embankment. It stopped at the first big tree it met.
Tee roared while Quinn groaned. The airbags had deployed keeping her alive, but now she couldn’t move and whoever was in that SUV would come looking. Tee’s body grew until she was too big for the cab of the truck. She used her claws to tear the airbags up before shrinking.
Quinn undid her seat belt and got the door open practically falling out of it. Tee jumped down and paced in front of her.
“I know we have to go. My head is killing me. Better that than death.” She followed her cat as she moved out. True she was just a cat, but Quinn was willing to bet she understood the terrain the best.
They moved through the woods trying to be quiet.
“I found the truck. She got out.” A male voice screamed not caring about the sound.
“Alive?”
“Yes moron, alive.”
“Find her and kill her.” A different voice rang out.
She always wanted to star in her own survival show. Not! Tee got in front of her and grew until she was almost as tall as Quinn.
“You’ve been keeping secrets,” Quinn whispered as she went to her hands and knees to follow Tee. Her head hurt too much to keep standing.
“I think I hear her.” There was the sound of someone crashing through the trees.
Tee urged her to her feet and caught the sleeve of her shirt pulling her through the forest.
“Damn, I missed her.”
“Shouldn’t we be quiet?”
“I want her to know we’re coming. She has nowhere to go.”
“Mekhi, where are you?”
“Quinn’s what’s happening?”
She gave him a rundown and told him where she was.
“Hold on our brothers are coming.”
“They won’t make it in time.”
“They will. I want you to listen to Tee. She has the predator senses of two species. Tell Tee out load that she can do whatever it takes to protect you. Now Quinn!”
“Tee protect me, and no matter what happens I love you.” She shook her head like a massive tiger, but Quinn took that as an okay.
“Mekhi?”
“I’m still here. I won’t leave you until Slade, and the others get there.”
Tee came to a stop, and Quinn hunched down behind her. A man walked into the clearing. Tee rose on her hind legs and launched herself at him. She landed on his chest. He fought to get his gun up, but she tore his throat out before he could.
She came back to Quinn, who put her arms around her neck and murmured good girl into her coat.
If she had snacks, think a big steak, she would have given it to her. Tee butted Quinn with her head to get her to move.
“I’ve got you. I’ll kill you, and whatever that thing is with you.” A man stepped out in front of them his gun pointed at Tee.
Slade stepped out behind him and snapped his neck.
“Bring the other one in alive.” He called out to his brothers.
“Damn it, Slade, I told you to leave that one alive I wanted to kill this one,” Phoenix replied before they heard a loud scream. “Now I have to settle for breaking.”
Slade turned to look at her and winked. She couldn’t take it anymore and fell to the Earth laughing and crying at the same time. Part of her mind told her she was having a breakdown, but she told it to go screw itself.
“Don’t tell Mekhi I picked you up. You will never make it to the SUV on your own.
“You came in a car?”
“No, but Akron is bringing it. He should be here by the time we climb back up.”
“What about the other man?”
“We’ll put him in a holding cell until Mekhi comes home.”
“Then we’ll question him and let him go?”
“Sure, whatever helps you sleep at night.”
“Tee killed one of them. Don’t get mad at her, she had to.”
“Tee’s a hero, but she already knows.”
“Mekhi calm your mate. She’s so tense in my arms she might break.”
“Tiny warrior, I’m so proud of you. Everything is fine now. Close your eyes, and soon you’ll be home.”
“I want to see you.”
“I’ll be there when you wake up.”
She closed her eyes and fell asleep in Slade’s arms.
She woke up feeling warm and safe. Mekhi was holding her tight.
“What happened? I had a weird dream last night.”
“It wasn’t a dream.”
“Yes, it was. Men don’t come after you in black SUV’s. That only happens in the movies.”
“And in your life. There were three of them.”
“Two are dead. Tee killed one of them.”
“Are you scared of her?”
“No, I mean this sounds weird, but I’m so proud of her. She protected me. He could have killed her.”
“She loves you, Quinn.”
She nodded and bit her lip. It bothered her that he could see Tee’s love but couldn’t see his own.
“What will we do with the man we caught?”
“I plan to talk to him.”
“Not without me.” She got out of bed and put her hand to her head. “Did you do something to my head?”
“I helped to reduce the swelling and take the pressure off.”
“Thank you.” She walked around the bed and placed her arms around him giving him a kiss.
Her mouth opened wide as his tongue went in taking over. She loved the way he dominated her, and then at other times he laid back and let her take charge.
“I love you Mekhi.” She told him before she headed off to the bathroom.
He placed his hand on his chest and rubbed. It ached, and he didn’t know why.
“How big is this basement?” The had walked through the part she had seen before only to find a hidden door. This was where they kept the prisoner, it looked like a high-end detention center.
&n
bsp; “Futuristic I take it.”
“Highly,” Akron told her.
It didn’t take this much protection to walk in the basement, but all the brothers insisted on coming until the threat was eliminated. Bile rose in her throat when they said that.
She stopped in front of a cell with a man lying on a bed. He didn’t turn to look when they walked up.
“What happened to him?”
“He broke his arm and leg,” Slade told her.
She took a deep breath. “Can he see us?”
“Not yet.” Mekhi touched the glass, and the man sat up staring at them.
“You’re dead all one of you, especially…”
Mekhi roared making him shut up and huddle in the corner of the bed.
“So far we’ve treated you fairly. I even took the time to heal your wounds.”
“I don’t know why since you’re going to kill me.”
“True. How you die is the only question it can be easy, or it can be slow. I prefer slow, but you may want to skip the pain.” He opened the door and stepped in with Quinn behind him.
“When they told me you were evil; I laughed. I’m not laughing now.”
“What are you talking about? Why did you try to kill me?”
“You have the plans.”
“What plans? Have you and your friends been doing drugs? I own a construction company, of course; I have plans.”
“You don’t know, do you? Your father never told you. Eight years before you were born something fell to Earth. I don’t know what it is. I know it’s worth a fortune. The story goes your dad found it, then he buried it somewhere. The only way to find it is in the plans he drew.
“They came after you several times while he was alive, but you always escaped the traps set for you. When he died, we knew the only person who would have the plans was you. Nothing anyone tried got through so finally, we made plans to kill you and deal with your mother.”
“You planned to torture my mother for plans that you're not sure exist?”
He nodded his head, but he never took his eyes of Mekhi.
“Tell him to let me go, and I’ll never bother you again.”
“No.”
He turned to look at her.
“My life has been turned upside down since my dad died. You and the others killed him for nothing but greed. My mom still cries some nights over the man she loves. She carries his final words around with her, and you were going to torture her, kill her, for the possibility of money.
“When I grew up, there was a saying everyone thought was clever. Live by the sword die by the sword.”
She held out her hand, and Mekhi gave her a long knife. She thrust it into his chest and turned for the door.
The man tried to pull it out. Mekhi stepped behind her and dealt a death blow.
Chapter Twenty-four
“I killed him.” Quinn was sitting in the living room staring out the window. How could she have done that? That’s not who she was. He should have been handed over to the police. That way, she could have explained he tried to kill her along with his two friends. See detective my cat can change size, and she killed one of the men to keep me safe.
My brother killed the other man. He’s not human, but he’s a good male…
Okay, there were no explanations in her future, but she still killed a man. She should be throwing up on the floor or crying in bed. Why was she sitting up like everything was fine?
“Do you want me to leave? I’ll understand if you do.”
“You take too much on your shoulder's tiny warrior. I dealt the death blow. You declared that justice must be done. We make a good team.”
“Are you scared of me?”
He allowed his head to rest on top of hers before he smiled. “Are you scared of Tee?”
“No.”
“You don’t frighten me, Quinn.”
“Is it over?”
“Almost.”
“You have to find what your father hid, and then we have to make sure everyone knows it will no longer be anywhere they can reach.”
“Could we hide it on the ship?”
“We could, but let’s find out what it is first.”
“I guess I should look.”
“Or you could come take a bath with me.”
“A bath?” She looked up he was standing with his hand outstretched to her.
“You’ve wanted one. I think this is the perfect time.”
She took his hand and stood. He loves me. I know he does; he just doesn’t understand how it makes your heart feel. It didn’t matter she’d spend eternity teaching him. They walked into the bathroom together.
She peered into the tub. “Are you going to fill this whole thing?”
“I am.”
“That’s a lot of water.” The tub had levels, not just a bottom one. She looked at him and picked up a vanilla scent and sprinkled it liberally in the tub.
“What’s that scent?”
“Nothing.”
She ran, and he chased her around the bathroom. He pressed her up against the shower when he caught her. She was laughing, it was light and airy, and he couldn’t help but join in.
His eyes darkened, and he moved back.
“Don’t. It’s okay. I didn’t know your brothers, but I believe they wanted you to live. If they could, they would tell you they are happy you found someone to spend your life with. The best thing you can do is live, so the joy and love you feel for them is apparent in how you live your life.”
“You are smart tiny warrior.”
“Only you think so, but I’ll take it.” She pulled him closer and kissed him. Losing herself in the taste of his kiss and his scent.
“Mmm, I smell vanilla.” She ducked beneath his arm and went back to the tub. She held onto the side and lowered herself into the water step by step. The hot water relaxed her. “This is as nice as a hot tub.”
“I’m glad you like it. The house was standing when we received it, but we’ve changed almost everything inside of it.”
“Which makes me wonder why you didn’t do the backyard yourself.”
“Phoenix insisted we hire someone. I may be in his debt, but I won’t be telling him.”
She chuckled. “The six of you make me smile.” She turned over and floated in the tub.
“If I told anyone about this tub, they would say I was lying.” Mekhi was sitting on the upper level of the tub the water reached him mid-waist. He watched her, his eyes glowing.
“You look good floating there.” Her hair fanned around her head a dark brown curtain of silkiness.
“I don’t know if I like the glint in your eyes.” He smiled at her as he leaned back closing his eyes for a minute.
“You’ve changed my life, Quinn. I can’t imagine living tomorrow or even the rest of today without you.”
“Don’t try I’m not leaving you.”
She floated over to him and then moved until she was standing in front of him.
“Why didn’t you want to look for the treasure.”
“I’ve already found my treasure.” His hand stroked her hip.
“I don’t know how or why I got so lucky, but every day I say thank you to whoever brought us together.”
She climbed into his lap and kissed him. It was easy and gentle expressing the love she felt for him. She licked at the side of his mouth before going to his neck. One deep breath and then she pressed her nose against his throat.
“I love your scent. It can fire me up or calm me down. There are times I’m convinced we were meant to be together.”
“I believe that. You’re the reason I survived.” He kissed her shoulder before he bit her.
Her body convulsed with an orgasm that overtook her throwing her into a firestorm of pleasure as she clung to him the only stable place in her constantly swirling world.
“I didn’t know you could do that.”
“You bring out the best in me.” His eyes were a smoldering blue that made her shiver. His voice r
eminded her of the smoothness of brandy. She wanted to drink him down. Instead, she bit his neck.
She worked her way down his throat nipping and licking. With each lick, she took in his taste. His scent covered her making her feel like an ancient queen conquering the world. She couldn’t get enough as she went for more. She kissed down his chest until she reached his nipples.
One nip at them had his hips thrusting in the air. She did it again fascinated with how they hardened begging to be touched.
“I love touching you.” She flicked one of his nipples with her tongue before blowing on it. She rolled the other nipple between two fingers and then pulled.
His rough snarl had wetness seeping between her legs as she kissed down his body. He reached out and cup her ass squeezing it.
“Quinn.”
“Say my name baby, I love it when you do.”
She reached down to stroke his cock that was waving to her above the water.
“Move to the ledge” He moved up to the edge of the tub sitting on the floor with his legs hanging in the water.
She went to the seat he was on standing on her knees.
“I’ve never had a chance to just look.” His skin was darker here, and he was thick. She gave up trying to wrap her hand around him. He was hard as steel, but the fine hairs on his cock made him as soft as silk.
She smoothed a bead of cum into his skin with her finger. His breathing got a little harsher bringing a smile of satisfaction to her face. She bent over and took the head into her mouth sucking hard. His hand went to her hair holding on as a growl came from his lips.
“I think you like that.” She licked down the side of his cock while her hand was working him up and down.
Opening wide she took more of him into her mouth sucking on him trying to get him deeper. His hand clenched her hair as the muscles in his arm stood out in an attempt to control himself. He didn’t want her to take more than she could handle.
He unclenched his hand and told her how alone he had been.
“I never thought life would give me a mate.” He spoke between the growls that came from him.
“Don’t fight let me have all of you.”
His hips thrust up nothing could stop them after her words. He tightened his hand in her hair as she worked him until he knew the suction of her hot mouth would make him cum.
