“Quinn, I am going to cum.”

She tightened around him sucking harder. The fine hairs in her mouth were ticking the roof and her tongue. Her pussy was weeping with need when he came. She sucked him down catching every drop of his essence.

He lifted her up to lay beside him.

“You amaze me.” He slipped into the water and opened her legs. He attacked her clit pulling and sucking on it. She screamed her pleasure as her body shook. His finger went to her slit caressing it before sliding in.

Her legs wrapped around his shoulders as he fingered her. He pulled out and stuck his tongue deep inside of her. His fingers pinched her clit, and she erupted. Wetness rolling out of her as she kept moaning and begging him for more.

Her head rolled back and forth as her body came down.

“That was.” There were no words for what it was. He picked her up and carried her to the bedroom. She could be wrong, but he looked just as shook as she felt.

  Chapter Twenty-Five

Quinn was standing back looking at her crew. They stopped to take a break. One brother put out a cooler filled with water and juice. Her people were still looking around a little suspiciously. They weren’t used to being treated nicely on a job.

“This place rocks.” Kevin walked over to her. She only had two males on her team. No one else would work with her, and a lot of male crews didn’t want to work with him.

  “The brothers are different.”

“I agree, and yours is hot.”

She blushed and tried to hide her smile. “You just keep your hands to yourself.”

“Boss that man only has eyes for you.”

  “You think?”

“I know. You deserve a good man; I'm happy for you.”

“Thanks. How are things in your life?”

“They are better. My dad asked me to come over this weekend. He wants to put up a shed. That’s all we talked about, but at least we talked.”

“Give them time. I know they love you. They're still just adjusting.”

“I think you're right. Thanks for being there for me.”

“Always, we’re a crew." She raised her fist, and he bumped it.

“Can you make sure there are free drinks on all of our job sites?” He threw her a grin before walking off.

Mekhi walked up behind her reminding himself to keep his hands off her while her crew was here.

“Thanks for putting out the cooler.”

  “Akron did that.”

“I’ll have to thank him when I see him. My crew isn’t always treated nicely.”

  “They work hard.”

They were clearing out the land when they came across some pipes that would have to be moved. Right now, they were working around them while they waited for a city official to approve moving them and then Quinn would have a group come in and do the actual work.

“I’ve been thinking of the plans. The first plans my dad ever had me draw were of an apartment building. I can still remember him bragging to everyone of how well I had done.” She could see the smile on his face. If she closed her eyes could remember how his mustache felt as she traced it.

“That’s what he told the world, but it was a lie. The first plans I ever did I traced. I did them repeatedly until I could close my eyes and see every line. Those plans were of our house. The one, my mom, still lives in. It was the first thing he built after he started his company. The plans don’t exist anymore. He destroyed them on my sixteenth birthday. I remember him saying I could close my eyes and draw them. That was why I no longer needed the original plans. He burned them in front of me. I can sit down and draw the plans for that house without breaking a sweat, but I don’t need to. I know where to look.”

Mekhi glanced over her crew. “When do you want to leave?”

“I want to go tomorrow; Carrie can take care of things here. The sooner we get this done, the better I’ll feel.”

  “I’ll let the others know.”

She went up to her toes and pulled on the front of his t-shirt until he leaned down. Then she gave him a deep kiss.

She stepped back to see her crew grinning at her. “They’ll have to get used to it. There is no way I will stop kissing you.” She gave him a wink and walked away.

He walked into the kitchen where his brothers were all seated.

“Quinn thinks she knows what the assassins are looking for. She wants to go retrieve it tomorrow.”

“We’ll be ready,” Slade told him.

  “Jabari, where have you been?”

He turned his ice-cold eyes to look at Mekhi. “Don’t let your good fortune make you think you have a right to interfere in my world.”

Mekhi stood his body getting thicker.

“There are humans outside. Is this what the two of you want to do?” Slade asked in a bored voice.

Hell, yes this is what he wanted to do. Everything should be perfect in his world. He had Quinn, they were solving their problems. So why was he on high alert? He kept expecting something to happen. A tragedy was coming, and he may lose the one person he couldn’t live without.

His head shook as his body shrank, he headed towards the stairs. That was Quinn’s crew outside, and he wouldn’t do anything to make them lose trust in her.

“I’ll kick your ass later Jabari.” He walked up the stairs and went to his room allowing his beast free range when he got there.

Swapping forms, he stood in the bathroom staring at the mirror. The reflection that looked back at him was different. His coat was bright and shiny again, and his hair was growing in nicely. All of this was due to Quinn and what she gave up for him.

He should look like his old self, but he didn’t. His eyes were now a bright light blue. He felt different in this form. There was no doubt that he was attached to Quinn. What did that mean? Could his beast love? His eyes mocked him in the mirror, and he wondered if fighting with himself made sense.

The perfection of her smile haunted him. There was something about it that always made him feel better. Was it the lift of her lips or the way her smile lit up her face? He had tried a thousand times to figure it out and still; he could up with nothing. It was just Quinn; everything about her made him feel better.

He would not figure it out right now. He went into one of the rooms she never asked about and ran his other side through a series of exercises. This way, he would be prepared for whatever happened tomorrow.

  *~*~*~*

“Are you nervous?” Quinn wiped her hands on her jeans again.

  “No, but you are.”

“What am I going to tell my mom? I can’t imagine how she will take the whole thing? What if she thinks I’m crazy or feels betrayed by my father?”

“You’re over thinking this. She knows we’re coming and bringing all my brothers, and she was fine with that.”

Baby steps she told herself as she looked out the back window again. His brothers separated into groups of two. She eyed Phoenix, who was in the back seat with his eyes closed. She was sure he was awake listening to everything.

“Phoenix open your eyes.” Her voice was sharp betraying the fear she felt.

His eyes popped open red flames dancing in them. She tried to get out of her seat.

“Phoenix!” Mekhi’s voice was sharp bringing him back to himself.

“Sorry, tiny sister. I didn’t mean to scare you.”

  “I wasn’t scared.”

“That’s why Mekhi calls you a warrior. It’s still hard to believe this planet has female warriors.”

“You both need to stop saying that. I can take you to a military base where there are thousands of woman warriors willing to fight for what they believe is right.”

They both nodded but said nothing. Mekhi pulled up to her mother’s house with his brothers pulling in behind him. He got out and went to open Quinn’s door.

He pulled her close and held her for a minute before he put her down.

“The Created definition of warrior differs from the humans. I
believe many of the females you talked about are warriors. The only one that concerns me is you.” He stepped back so she could lead the way to the door.

Quinn knocked on the door tucking what Mekhi said in the back of her mind to be thought about later. The curtains moved briefly and then her mom opened the door.

“I was wondering when you would get here.” She stood back to let Quinn in.

“What’s wrong?” Quinn looked behind her.

“I suspect we are about to get company. Come in I don’t want the door hanging open.”

She led them to the living room before stopping to stare at the males in her house.

“Mom, this is Mekhi, the one I was telling you about.”

“Come here, son.” She took him into her arms and squeezed tight. “He seems fit. I think the two of you will make a good match.”

“Mom!” Quinn flushed red while her mother laughed.

“Who are these other fine lads?”

Had her mother just called five males over six five lads? She shook her head. There would never be a time her mom did what she expected her to do.

“Mom sit down, please. I have something to tell you.”

  “About time.”

When had she started thinking of her mom as old? Her hair had some gray but not enough to distract. She stood tall, had her own teeth and seemed to be in good shape. Her mom was younger than she was giving her credit for.

“As far as I can figure out dad found something a long time ago and kept it hidden from me, us. There have been men making threats against my life and now yours. They want to know where it is.”

“Do you plan to tell them?”

“Never! Dad may have died to keep his secret. I want to put it someplace safe where they can never reach it.” She took a deep breath hating what she had to say next. “I think dad hid it in the basement.”

“He did. Where else do you think it would be safe?”

  “You know about it?”

“Someone had to protect it, and you weren’t ready when your father passed on. So, it became my task until you were able to protect your legacy.”

Quinn reached behind her looking for a chair as her legs gave out. Mekhi caught her and sat her down.

  “Explain?”

“We have little time. Your dad found what is in the basement. He was told it belongs to you and your mate, but we could use it to raise you. Ever since then we have been protecting both the secret and you.”

Her mom reached down and pulled a gun from under the couch along with a sword and smiled at Quinn.

She pulled a necklace off that she always wore. “You’ll need this, now go.”

  Chapter Twenty-six

“Be careful,” Quinn called out. “The step's tilt to the left. My dad did that on purpose. I never could figure out why, but now I think it was to help if he ever had to fight someone coming down them. They never used this basement. My mom’s laundry room is on the main floor. I always wanted to make this my hangout spot, but dad wasn’t going for that.”

She couldn’t stop talking. Her nerves were running away with her mouth. Everything should be okay her life had already changed in a big way. So why did she feel like she was in for another change? Because she was. How many girls had a father who kept something that must be alien in the basement? It sounded like the start of a movie to her.

She took a deep breath when she hit the basement floor and walked further in so that the others could get off the steps.

“It looks normal down here.” She did a three sixty and stopped to look at Mekhi. Was she disappointed? “Did anyone else besides me think we would encounter little green men?”

Now they were looking at her strange, which made her want to laugh. Okay her life hadn’t changed that much. She walked over to a wall. It had to be the most uninspiring wall she had ever seen.

“This is the doorway.” She pressed on it, and nothing happened. “It’s a little chilly.”

Not sure what to do she kicked the wall. “It’s solid.” She was hopping around. Kicking the wall wasn’t her best plan.

She looked over at Mekhi and his brothers who were all staring at her as if she was an exhibit in a zoo.

“You guys keep relaxing; I'll figure this out on my own.”

  “The necklace,” Mekhi told her.

“I knew that.” She pulled it out of her pocket while she mumbled words under her breath.

“We can hear you,” Thrice told her.

“Well don’t listen.” She held the necklace up, and the wall disappeared revealing a door. There was a keyhole the shape of the necklace, and she placed it inside. The door slid open making her breath catch in her throat for a minute.

“What is this?” She whispered afraid if she spoke much louder it would destabilize.

“It’s a portal,” Mekhi told her.

“A doorway to another world,” Akron said.

  “So, if I cross it?”

“You won’t be on Earth.” Mekhi took her hand, and they walked through together.

“Is this a cave or a vault?” The place was filled with more gold and jewels and things she couldn’t imagine. The Aba vault had nothing on this.

“I know where we are,” Thrice said his voice a mere whisper.

All eyes turned to look at him.

“I know this because I met him once. There was a…” He stopped looking for the right word. “On this planet, you would call him a pirate. He robbed from some and gave to others. Most who repeat this story say he did it for fun, to balance the scales of justice. On one of his raids, he met a female who was beautiful and touched his heart. He asked for her hand in marriage, but her father rejected him and his proposal.

“He had other plans for his daughter, none of them nice. She made plans to run off with her lover, but the father found out. He waited until the pirate came for her and killed her before he could reach her.”

“I’ve never seen such anger in my life. The pirate looked at my sister and cried as she died in his arms. He stood up and told my father, he would strip from him one by one everything he loved. And he did. My father loved two things treasure and me. Within this vault is everything my father ever loved.”

“How are you here?” Quinn was looking at a female who was cloaked in shadows.

“I can never die as long as I am in this room. If I ever find a way out, I will die the minute I cross the threshold.”

“I would rather die than stay here.”

“Would you? Here I have hope out there all I have is death. I loved my sister. The only reason I was in that room was to stop my father. I no longer know how long I’ve been here, but I’m sure I served my time. You could be her you know, my sister. You look just like her. This vault and everything in it belongs to you, which means I belong to you. One day maybe you will find it in your heart to set me free.”

“I can’t keep a person in a vault.” She turned to look at Mekhi asking for understanding.

“Then you condemn me to death.”

  “What?”

“If you reject your legacy, then I die.”

“Where is the person who started this? Why doesn’t he come back for it?”

“Barto died a long time ago. I believe he is happy with my sister. They’re coming you have to leave.”

Mekhi took her hand, and they moved through the doorway.

  “What do we do now?”

“This.” He stretched out his hand and the portal shrunk until it fit into his palm. “It can be moved. That is why beings on every planet search for it.”

“How can I leave her in there?”

“Before we try to release her let’s verify her story.”

She nodded, what mattered now was her mom. Mekhi handed her the portal, and she slipped it in her pants pocket. It became hard like a jewel. She looked like a princess born on a distant planet. Yeah, that was going to keep her awake at night.

Quinn turned and headed towards the steps before she realized no one was behind
her.

  “Why is it so quiet?”

  “There are four heartbeats upstairs.”

“My mom.” She tried to keep her breathing even in case whoever was in her house wasn’t human.

“Let’s find out. We’ll go up first.”

She stood still as Mekhi placed a foot on the steps his brothers behind him. When he opened the door, a rough voice called out.

“Hands up, or the woman gets it.”

They say it like getting it is a freaking prize. She wanted to hurt the person touching her mom. Instead, she stayed in the basement and waited for Mekhi.

  “Where’s the girl?”

Mekhi lifted an eyebrow at the man holding his mother-in-law. She stood tall even though he had her hair clutched in his free hand.

“The girl?” He sounded bored as he watched the other men in the room.

“Quinn, her daughter.” He shook Quinn’s mother.

  “She’s in the basement.”

“Tell her to come up, or I’ll kill this one.”

“Then what leverage do you have? You kill your hostage, I’ll kill each of you, the same way I killed the prisoner we took the other day.”

The man looked around the room wide-eyed. His partners weren’t saying anything.

“Quinn, if you love your mother come upstairs.”

There was no movement in the basement, and Mekhi wanted to burst with pride. She trusted him.

“Come upstairs, Quinn.” She climbed the steps quietly stopping when she reached the top.

“You have something that belongs to us.”

  “What is it?”

  “Stop playing games.”

“No game, I can’t give you want you want unless you tell me.”

“We want what your father hid from us all those years ago.”

  “Who do you work for?”

The males pulled her mother’s hair tight making her sink to her knees with the pain. She never screamed or cried out. Quinn reached into her back pocket and pulled out the portal.

  “What’s that?”

“It’s what you're threatening my mother’s life over.”
